I think doing like a street drift setup would be really cool to watch, something you can toss around for fun on the weekend while you learn and something to throw your cat in the back seat with your spouse in the front for a nice cruise 😂.
I went through a similar thing with my AE86. It's a complete untouched old lady owned coupe. I wanted to track or drift it at small track days but everyone told me to preserve it. I fell for that at first and all it did was make me too worried even want to do anything with it and it just sat. I was considering selling it because my Cressida was an all around better daily and just stared at in the garage for awhile before I decided to just say fuck it and enjoy the car as I originally intended. I fell in love with it all over again. Your Gloria is clean but it sounds like you want to drift it and I say go for it, dude! It's meant to be enjoyed however you see fit and big drift sedans are sick. I want to build one eventually too.
I've been under the impression that finding parts for these cars is a nightmare. I want a Gloria but im not keen on spending hours just trying to find shocks or basic parts.
I understand that completely. Thinking if buying a Cedric and have the same thoughts. One thing to do is to source parts before the purchase the car and before you need them. Look up cars that match the same body/chasis (Y33 for the Cedric and Gloria). Find out common issues and problems. Find cars with the same engine your car uses and go from there. Some parts are hard to get- but forums and Ebay are your best friends for em. Just be safe. These cars seem to ALL be built pretty well- and that's one of the best aspects of Japanese cars. They really take pride in their creations.
You should keep it a year or two and then switch it for a chaser avante. The are popular in south america and you can have that dohc inline 6 twin turbo + rwd in a long sedan. Good luck with your builds, can't wait for the sim rig to get some attention!

We both own a JDM Y33 and an orange cat. I like mine and I bought it as a "budget Aristo", but realized it's not a replacement for an Aristo despite similar power and weight. Not many people/shops know the VQ30DET engine. JDM specific parts can be hard to get. I'm a Toyota guy at heart and every shop knows JZ engines. I'm selling mine to a buy a JZ car. Yours is the best spec JDM Y33 out there

From the r33gts r34sedans,300zx,Nissan fugas,Nissan laurel,Toyota progress,Toyota mark x aka the better version of the is250/350,Toyota aristo,Toyota mark2,Toyota chaser, Nissan skyline 350gt,370gt,Honda civic rhd many make and models here.
Alex there was the comparison between learning on a sim to real life. Can't remember which company did it, however in Europe one sim driver won an online championship never drifted other than on the sim. They put him into a pro spec drift machine and he was turning and burning in no time. Other than that, keep up the work. Wisconsin indeed is cold, thankfully this year has been quite mild on us! I'll be ripping it up at Road America this season after getting one my cars finally back up and running!
Do a stance drift setup can run camber for Ackerman and still look flashy when off track but it’s hard to do that cause things happen on track that you can’t prevent so paint and body would be iffy

That Supra should have way better rust proofing than the Gloria.. IMO, if you can get out of it for what you have in it, I would let it go and pick up something more bashy to thrash on but you do you.
I wouldn't drift it until you learn how to drift in something that you don't care gets wrecked. Daily it for now and maybe do something else with it but I wouldn't risk sliding this thing on a track for now

How do you go over the history and not mention Prince? Anyway, the Skyline was always a luxury car, a 3-series competitor. And Gloria was always a 5-series competitor. Not saying you would necessarily take either of them over their BMW counterparts, just underscoring the segments they were meant to compete in and be "budget" within that segment. As in, if you're a middle class Japanese banker... maybe you wanted a nice 5-series like car but didn't want to spend BMW money and maintenance. Well Prince / Nissan are here to help you out, and you can help your Japanese market. Also, it wasn't Toyota competition that ended these cars. It was Renault and Ghosn. This is a much longer part, but the Skyline, Laurel, Gloria, and President all came from Prince. The Z, Cedric, Cima, and whatever else came from Datsun. Many of these cars overlap, and effectively competed against each other. To further complicate matters, Nissan dealers in Japan were segmented and only permitted to sell specific models for decades. To this day, your best bet to finding a Skyline physically present at a Japanese Nissan dealership is to find the closest one which has "Prince" in its name. When Renault swept in, they put an end to all of this. The Skyline and Z were retained as "separate", but effectively became the same car (G35 / 350Z). All the other cars I mentioned were reduced to 1 model, the Fuga (Q70 in US), with a new nameplate to keep politics out of it. Now that Renault has been dumped again, we see Nissan paying more attention to differentiating the Skyline and Z; the coupe Skyline (Q60) was explicitly discontinued. But "Infiniti" in the US would appear to be in deep water, and so we could soon go back to the days of no Skylines being sold stateside. At least we have the GT-R now, I suppose.

3rd time I'm saying the Gloria is way too nice and clean to trash. If like you said the plan is to either trash it or sell it my answer is sell it. This seems like a show car at this point with it's unique "features". Sure it can be used to race/drift around but it shouldn't be it's main goal. The goal should be to be preserve and if that's not something you'd do then unfortunately maybe passing on the baton is the best option and get something more fitting to getting the winter/drift treatment.
This would be a cool car to preserve and maintain and then you could get a cheaper car to do drifting in to see if you like it.
