    Can we get a shout-out to the original G1 Jetfire / Takatoku Valkyrie mold? Every time I see a new version of this design, I'm still amazed at what that 40+ year old toy was able to pull off at that time, while still looking better than several Masterpiece figures.

    The whole Licensing/rights mess between harmony gold (robotech) and Big West (the rights holders for Macross) was actually settled a couple years back because Sony wants to do a robotech movie, But that movie was unable to Move forward in production because of the mess. So Sony was the company to sit both harmony gold and Big West down and have them straighten it out the Rights and licensing mess.

    • @L2Nuku
      @L2Nuku 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Harmony Gold always been a real pita about the rights mess, Robotech is nothing more than 3 different anime (Macross and 2 others) put together with an English dub that messes with the story.

      The funny thing is that Harmony Gold finally got spanked in the settlement after decades of being this weird lawsuit happy real estate company.

      Personally i dont think that HG could have legally stopped Macross being sold in the U.S. (apart from SDF Macross obviously) as NONE of the other prequal and sequel Macross series were EVER used as part of the "Robotech" universe....

    I'd actually recommend the OG Macross anime (in Japanese with subtitles of course). It's a really, really solid series, great storytelling and some fantastic animation.
    Anyway! Great looking toy. The side fillers are annoying but the Macross Valkyrie is one of those designs that's borderline impossible to do accurately without some partsforming. Hence why we haven't gotten a "perfect" Valkyrie over 40 years later.

    The problem with the hands are completely due to the fans: some are absolute sticklers for animation accuracy and in some shots, the hands are comically large almost to the point of being boxing gloves. Some Bandai versions offer two sets of fist stylings just because of this reason.

    Would have been cool if Shoji Kawamori counter sued HG on the side of Big West,Bandai and all the other companies that produced MACROSS back in they day as it was him who sat down at a draughtsmans board and created the design in the 1st place so when the dust is all settled He owns the design.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

If I recommend something, it’s objective. I wouldn’t buy this bc I don’t give a shit about macross or robotech. But it’s a good product, so if you do, you should. :) all the in depth stuff is on patreon. I got tired of the public stuff being taken for granted. I’m much happier now as a creator. :)

      This is an official product, ThreeZero is a legit company that would take the pains to obtain the licenses from the IP holders. The beef between Robotech/Macross have been somewhat resolved in the courts: Macross in Japan, Robotech everywhere else. See the multiple Secret Galaxy documentaries explaining it.

    • @jaws848
      @jaws848 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @ArionRDAW i have and secret galaxy talks nonsense. They way Dan goes on you would think the only 2 countries on the planet are Japan and the u.s.a.....i live in Ireland and BOTH Macross AND Robotech have been FREELY available over the counter in stores here for YEARS going right back to the early /mid 80s....in fact my very 1st VF-1S was a Bandai Super Dimension Fortress Macross version.

    • @jaws848
      @jaws848 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @ArionRDAW in fact secret galaxy talk so much nonsense about Macross /Robotech history in 1 of his videos Dan CLEARLY states when Takatoku toys went belly up the rights to most of the designs went to Bandai but it was Hasbro aquired the rights to the VF-1....Absloute bs...if that was the case why would hasbro have to licience it from bandai if hasbro already owned the rights to it....also 1 of the stipulations for hasbro getting the licience was hasbro were NOT to do a deal with takara as bandai regarded takara a rival toy company (still do) and they did NOT want their product being sold in the domestic Japanese /asian markets under a competitors name...that is why G1 Jetfire was not initially available in japan.

    The only place it falls short of,and its only a small thing, is it would have been great if it came with the swap out "Mickey Mouse" hands as they are more accurate to the anime.....anyone who has a VF-1 from either Yamato or Arcadia will know what i mean.

  • @duhdonutman

    i'm definitely getting this and Roy's, but I don't love it esp at the price. I'm probably alone on this, but to me while the paint is great and graphics are spot on something about the look might actually be too cartoony for me. Transformation wise, jetfire should be the baseline standard for all veritechs. even as i kid i never broke it, there was no parts forming and they had a great solution for hands. Obviously articulation wasn't the focus for Hasbro. Back then we had imaginations and no camera phones, and i wasn't going to save polaroids in an album. That said 3 zero did a really good job here. The only things I really dislike however about this figure are the hands and the missle cluster. The cluster looks like that just mailed that in. There should be a set of posable hands and a set of gun hands that don't need to be removed for transformation. The green in the in the head is really nice. I wouldn't have mind if they included a Minmay figure as well.

  • @drewlovelyhell4892
    @drewlovelyhell4892 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Parts-forming purists are such cry-babies!
    The gap-fillers in the torso are optional. Yamato included them in their GBP Armour set, but you didn't need to use them. The "balloon" hands are from the TV version, (as opposed to the movie version which had more boxy, mechanical hands, but Harmony Gold don't have the rights to the movie), and don't easily fit into the forearms, so ThreeZero just didn't bother. Normally, Valkyries come with a shrimpy pair of additional hands that can fit in the forearms, but they look lame, so I never use them.
    I have the Fokker VF-1S on preorder, which is a relief because all of the Hi-Metal R or DX Chogokin ones sell out straight away, and go for ludicrous money on the secondary market.
    $150 is a great deal, so I hope they keep this line going and also make Destroids etc.

    1. SDS topic: In the words of Chancellor Palpatine..."DO IT!!"
    2. *SPEAKING* of the G1 Jetfire, sweet mother of Primus, Unicron, and Gaea, that Valkyrie lookin' butterballs nekkid without the armor attachments (I believe it's called the F.A.S.T. Pack)!! It's not really noticable in the robot mode unless you're an absosmurfinlute analord (yes, I made that up, a portmanteau of "anal" & "lord") about the forearm & shin armor. But the jet mode?? I don't remember it being so bare even in Robotech!!😮😮😮

      It's heavily inspired, but since the transformation sequence is part of the show there are not that many different ways to get it done. The side filler pieces are VERY Arcadia, though. The nose cone usually has a radar dish inside, that's why it pivots out.
