If you look at the pos cable you pulled off the starter it has the locking tab

The locking tap is on the starter, so the battery cable can only be clocked one way

Did this today. 2007 CTS. Everything went great. That Nox sensor is a bitch though. Spent like 5 minutes trying to remove it with my hands.

For the wire plug that requires the harness to be squeezed. Just take a long screwdriver or strong thin rod. Place it in under the top of the clip. Place the other end against the exhaust and just push I'm and up. Also note the new starter may have a new nut for the positive lead. Be sure to validate the size of that nut before shoving the starter back in.
Replacing the starter on my wife's smart car was so much easier than this.
