Michelle Williams is seriously a national treasure when it comes to acting. Literally a whole another level of acting skills, not only that she's one of the best actress of her generation but she's also one of few actress who deserves to win an Oscar atleast once in her career. I was amazed by her in The Fabelmans
I adore Laura Dern. It seems like everybody in the industry absolutely loves her, she’s like the epitome of a girls girl and overall just really chill. When she does the actress roundtable every other actress participating will often have a story about how much they love her.
I loved that Mary Oliver poem reference made by Michelle..."your one wild and precious life." She is so utterly literate, intelligent, eloquently-spoken, and aware.
Laura Dern is so eloquent. I love her phrase of the “fine line between brokenness and broken-open.” Williams is of course the top of her field - adventurous, shapeshifting, soulful. Great pairing of two incredible artists.
Michelle Williams is so engaging to listen to. She speak so softly and there is that gentle humility in her despite her huge talent in any role thrown to her.
This year's interviews and pairings are really good, and this one is another standout. Both Dern and Williams are such warm, intelligent and thoughtful performers, and have given us so many genuinely rich and complicated characters. Terrific conversation.
I'm still amazed how brilliant Michelle was in Blue Valentine and Manchester By The Sea, two of my favourite movies of all time by twisting my heart and emotion with a raw strong performance from her that felt so real and heartbreaking, I teared up watching both movies, it's so real that I almost forgot that Michelle was just acting. She dissapeared in both movies and became the character she's playing. Great movies that are absolutely painful and difficult to watch
I admire you for being able to cite just two as I would be rambling about just about every thing she has done but based on the two you have cited I think you would really like the film "Wendy and Lucy" which was directed by the same woman who directed "First Cow"
This was such a warm, insightful conversation, one of the best of a kind! Both Laura and Michelle send out very good, calming vibes so you just want to listen to them! And it's quite rare.
What a great delight watching this exchange from the heart of two of the most beloved and respected actresses nowadays. They learned the path to understand acting, and for what they talked about, they really appreciate their opportunities to learn from Spielberg and Lynch. I wish that they could have talked more about other projects though. All the love for these two.
You know what I love the most about Michelle other than her acting? Her short hair, apparently she kept her hair like as a tribute to her ex, Heath Ledger. Heath used to love Michelle with short hair when they dated therefore, it's a nice way for Michelle in honoring his memory even as his ex. Heath would've definitely be proud in Michelle's further success as well as her way in raising their daughter
There's been a lot of discussion of the "nepo babies" term lately, whether it's unfair. Laura Dern is an example of overcoming that knock. If anyone ever said she was getting roles because her parents are successful actors, it was a long time ago. Now it's just a part of her biography, as with Jeff Bridges, Michael Douglas, the Fonda siblings, and other second-generation actors. She kept her head down and kept proving herself with very different great work: Smooth Talk, Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart, Rambling Rose, Citizen Ruth, Inland Empire, The Master, Twin Peaks: The Return, Marriage Story, Little Women..so many others (a few blockbuster commercial films as well). In her time, some other children of famous actors have tried to follow in their parents' footsteps and have faded. There are young Laura Derns and less gifted examples among us today. Time has a way of separating the wheat from the chaff.
When I was living in Michigan years ago I was invited to an extras party for Sam Raimi's Oz prequel by an actress friend, so when I was in the bar I see this beautiful, shorter blonde step in, and I know who it is right away. I have loved and worked in horror so I have a Michael Myers tattoo that was uncovered because I had a black muscle shirt because it was a Midwest summer night. Anyway, I was speaking to another actor, and then I feel someone touching my arm, so I literally look down and see Michelle Williams with a look of fascination, so I asked her if she liked it, to which she replied, "I love it, but I also f***ing hate it", because she was in Halloween H20. We talk for about ten minutes, and she walks away. Twenty minutes later, she steps up to me because she is apparently being harassed at the bar, and she asks me how tall I am, I say 6 foot 2, and she grabs me by the arm and I was basically her bodyguard for four hours haha. No photos of the night out of respect for her and her privacy, just a memory that I will always hold onto, and to answer your question, Michelle Williams is shy, but she has presence in any room, while being absolutely fun, open, and simply an amazing woman you want to be around.
At the risk of repeating myself from some other comment section, Laura Dern deserves an honorary Oscar for helping to bring about the greatest thing that has ever happened.
Almost every actor in Actors on Actors talking about a director they've worked with: "They are so precise and organised, but they love the improvisation"
I remember explaining to my mother once that she couldn't "fix" her kids problems all the time. She truly felt that we were her product, so if something went wrong, it was her fault.
Who the heck approved this thumbnail for this interview? That is the most unflattering photo of an incredibly beautiful woman. It's so easy to take a bad photo of anyone, no matter how beautiful they are. If I took a photo of anyone, and it didn't look like them, I wouldn't show them. And I sure as heck wouldn't post it for millions to see on a popular TH-cam channel. Wow. Especially in an industry where it's so (sadly) important for women to look perfect in order to get work.
Nice talk love Laura Fern because of her Dad Bruce who I admire so much Laura is wonderful actor in her own right too Michelle Williams was great in Dawson's Creek a favourite series of mine watched every episode remkable with of course Katie
All they did was talk about Spielberg for the majority of the video. We’re here to hear about these two women I wish someone on the set told them to switch up where the convo was going
I need to say this. Your lighting is not good at all. No depth and no mood. Like the difference between the interview light and the photos from the making of the movies or the movies is absurd.
being bigger than life shows how fun, fearless, strong and confident you are. its only weak and insecure people who perceive it as crazy are projecting their insecurities and are extremely weak and can be easily duped and ruined. what you perceive something is a reflection of your poor and weak insecurities.
just because someone is talking about it does not mean they are thinking ABOUT IT 24/7 stop being so entitled to think you know everyones life when you don't. you don't know what everyone is thinking.

I am in total agreement . I also feel that Laura Dern is a great actress.
Also Amy Adams, Annette Bening, and Glenn Close deserve their Oscar.

There is no one more deceitful and fake than this terrible man. Do you like listening to her smoky voice? that's just terrible.

Yea she has a lot of great lowkey performances, they always go under the radar unfortunately but she’s a high caliber actor.

you should see Take This Waltz!! a very quirky and relatable character (if you're lucky enough to have commitment issues ) ;)
Her Performance in blue Valentine was fantastic.
This Actors on Actors series is the best. It's so fresh to see the empathy between them.
They are both legends👌
Hope Michelle gets her Oscar soon too.
Me too. Its about time…

If I ever met Laura Dern in person I would be shaking to my core and I wouldn’t be able to call her anything other than Dr. Sattler.
Two adorable human beings with an extraordinary talent.
I love Laura Dern, always have. She's good in everything she does.
Every line they utter is soo impactful, these two are Soo interesting
I watched all of these interviews today and this is the only one that made me cry. A lot.
BOTH ARE SO TALENTED!
Beautiful & smart conversation with two unbelievably talented actors.❤
My two biggest crushes of all time in one room! So talented and so special. Love these women.

The warm & brilliant feminine energy in this room & video are simply 🔥
Thank you for putting these 2 together🙏🏻

it’s weird that you talk about her like you personally know her. she’s moved on, stop being weird.
@@ririschannelx they aren’t being weird, they’re just saying how it’s sweet that she does that…
Love the Fablemans. My fav of year.
Michelle Williams is brilliant in every role she plays. I don't know how she does that. Apparently she's very hardworking and directors love her.

Michelle Williams is so pretty and a fantastic actress! She did a spectacular job on The Fabelmans.
Happy birthday laura from italian boy live in rome

Wow, Variety is really putting out some great content
Y’all did Dern DIRTY with that thumbnail 💀
Inland Empire vibes
@ I was thinking the same thing 💀
Her agents must not be very good of they haven't made a phone call by now.
What were they gonna do? That's just her face :/

BOTH SHOULD BE IN A MOVIE TOGETHER!
Two of the best actresses around.
Also dude who uploaded spelt Fabelmans wrong cmon my guy

Michelle is such an underrated beauty 😍
Such a great body of work and so many nominations yet she still remains an underrated talent.
I love that Laura Dern can't not do a Lynch impression when quoting him
Thanks, Laura! Thanks, Michelle! Thanks, Variety! 🎬 #Variety #ActorsOnActors #LauraDern #MichelleWilliams
BOTH ARE GREAT ACTRESSES!
THIS IS A GREAT PAIRING!
Almost every actor in Actors on Actors talking about a director they've worked with: "They are so precise and organised, but they love the improvisation"
They are America's aunts. Just warm and open and cool and giving with their knowledge and perspective.

It's soo funny how both of them have been married to Hugh Jackman on-screen.
They don't know how lucky they are ;)
laura dern is a brilliant actress but she also seems like a thoroughly lovely human being
I love that the actor who played Steven Spielberg challenged Steven Spielberg on character choice lol

Laura Dern es sorprendente como los buenos vinos es muy hermosa ❤
totally incredible and way too short!!! round 2 with these wonderful ones 2023!
Today laura 57 years
Michelle Williams looks so different since leaving Destiny's Child.
💀
And she’s thriving lol
😂🤣
Omg who picked that thumbnail
Someone’s a Lynch fan…
Huh, and here I thought I'd be getting a conversation between Andrew Garfield and Andrew Garfield as Zendaya
I can't believe not one mention of CERTAIN WOMEN. Or Kelly Reichardt.
