What a great honest video. Hopefully people will appreciate you letting us into your life in Bali. I believe you are spot on with your assessment of the now in Bali. The cost of living has risen all over the world, some more than others, and regardless of what we are paying, the most important factor is your happiness and it’s with in your budget. Thanks for sharing 🍻
Yeah not too difficult to find a place with a garden. The problem with gardens and pools is that they take up space and space is at such a premium that you pay a lot for it. If I build my own place, I’ll definitely have space for a decent garden with lots of greenery. Not so much a lawn though.
Just found your 1 year in Bali video. Really enjoyed it and lots of your words and thoughts resonated with me as someone who has just moved here to Sanur after working all this year on my plans to open a couple of businesses in Gili Air. Need to find a group to play Paddle with to get some fitness back in my life so if anyone cares to help me with that please get in touch guys 😊
Hey Adam Another Great Video Mate. Id say thats great value for a house you love. Back in my home city San Diego Ca You cant even rent a room in somebody elses house for that price. Thanks for sharing Cheers
Thank you and I think that house is great value. I'm guessing you're on the other side of the bypass not the beach side. We started looking a bit too late and seem to have missed the boat on affordable rentals!......maybe next year. Thank you again for the content.
You are correct. Beachside is very expensive for what you get and prices there have risen dramatically over the past few years. Things Westside haven’t really had the same boom, but they’re still not cheap. There is still plenty of vacant land within 5 minutes bike ride of the beach meaning it should be possible to find decent value if you’re patient, have your eyes peeled and strike when an opportunity comes up.
Great info thanks. I’m looking to move to Bali soon but plan to rent for a year first to check out the best location for me before committing to long term buy/rent.
Wow! Thanks for letting us see a glimpse of your humble abode!! Can you elaborate further on your circumstance, thought process and decisions on why and how you ended up long-term in bali (vs simply holidaying, i meant). A cosy little pad, thats ample in terms of space, and presumably in a bloody beaut location in Sanur!! I am envious of you, sir!!
Well, Susan is Indonesian and we were in Bandung for many years. Bandung is not the place it used to be... things have changed and we decided to move to Bali because it suits our lifestyle better.
Hi Adam, we love your videos. They have been so informative and helpful. Heading to Sanur in a few days and hoping we might bump in to you guys at one of the warungs you've recommended.
No worries. Glad you found it useful. I’m thinking of doing something along these lines semi-regularly so people can keep up to date with current living costs in Bali.
Your idea has real merit. We are not yet ready to move up to Sanur full time, but I keep hearing that costs are rising a lot due to the amount of expats from around the world who are moving to Bali either full time or are able to work remotely from there. There is only so much supply and demand seems more than supply currently
Yeah that does seem to be the case. I think it's still possible to get cheap places closer to Renon, but I guess it depends on what the reasons are for moving to Bali. You can also get cheap places quite far north of Sanur... there's not much in the way of restaurants and infrastructure, but you can still find your own slice of paradise. Depends on your budget I guess.
Hi there, I really appreciate your videos and look on them as a resource - I’m thinking of a move to Sanur my - love the place. Which area of Sanur do you guys recommend as a base? Cheers and keep up the good work!
In my opinion it depends on how much money you have. My favourite part of Sanur is in the suburban south on the east side of the bypass. It’s expensive. Aside from that, anywhere Westside of the bypass is good if you have transport. Just don’t go so far as Renon unless you’re trying to save money or want something big.
Selamat Pagi. Suksma Adam and Susan for allowing us into your beautiful home in Sanur. I noticed the Camino de Santiago shell on the front entrance too, is that yours? I just wanted to know which Visa are you on to allow you to stay in Bali for 2 years? Sampa jumpa. Thanks in advance 🙏
Yes, we’ve walked the Camino quite a few times from different directions. We love to walk! I have a residency visa because Susan is Indonesian so my situation is different to many people’s. I really would love to offer advice on which visas are best to use, but I just don’t have the knowledge to be able to talk about it confidently. Whatever the case, hundreds of thousands of foreigners legally live in Indonesia on all sorts of visas and it works for them. I think most people use visa agents to smooth the process, but I think they often charge too much… if you know what you’re doing, it can be fairly simple to apply for a visa all on your own. Perhaps it’s best to use an agent for the first application and perhaps a couple of extensions, but once you know what you’re doing and you’re doing it all legally, the immigration office is usually fairly helpful.
Thanks for your reply and information regarding the various visa’s . I will need to do some research to familiarise myself. Bali and especially it’s people are so special to me. Yes the Camino is on my bucket list. Have you and Susan walked the Portuguese coastal route as that is the one that sounds most appealing to me. Which route would you recommend and what time of year is best? Did you do use the hostels - hang on I see great material here for a vlog!😂 Really enjoying your informative videos about the current situation in Sanur and especially your practical advice , such as how to catch the public bus. Keep up the good work. Bagus 😊
I’ve walked part of the Portuguese, but only the last part. I’ve walked from all sorts of different places including France, Granada, Merida, Astorga and also Sarria. You can stay in hostels or private accommodation and it’s nice to have both to be honest. The longer the walk, the better it is to use the hostel network so that you can form bonds with other walks and share yarns at the end of the day. Anyway, I would actually recommend the via de la plata for a first time walker. It’s getting quite busy on all of the routes, the the VDLP still seems to be somewhat manageable.
Bagus Bos 🙏🏻 All your content is awesome , this one the best 👍🏻 Very informative , like the comparison of renting your house in OZ to pay for your Bali rental home 🤔 keep the vid’s flowing
Terima kasih bro. Always trying to shine a light on what real life is like for me in Sanur. Will differ for everyone of course, but at least people can get an idea.
Can you do a TH-cam clip on the best Nasi Goreng in Sanur? I was in Sanur in 1988 and recall exceptional Nasi Goreng’s with fried rice, a chicken Maryland, fried egg and a prawn cracker! The satay sauce was memorable. Can you do some research ❤️?
I’m always researching new things and as I eat different foods, they all go in the back pocket to be used in future videos. As for the best nasi goreng in Sanur, I think that is going to be a tough one unless a friend recommends one in particular. I suppose I could ask viewers to submit their favourites and I could go and film them all.
I’ve thought a lot about doing videos on the visa situation, but the problem is that it’s really specific to each individual and I’m only knowledgeable about the visa I’m on. I’m married to an Indonesian so it makes things relatively easy. I have friends who are in various different visas and I might ask them what visas they’re on and perhaps do some videos on that. I’ve got a bit of research to do first though.
Yeah I agree with that. I also think the quality in Thailand is better than in Indonesia. That said, if you look outside of Bali there are many cheap places in Indonesia to live… you just might not want to live there 🤣

Well said! Glad you liked the video!
I would need a garden to feel zen but each to their own

Good luck with the businesses and finding a padel crew!
Appreciate you welcoming us into your lifestyle what a beautiful place to call home.
Thanks! Hopefully it gives people an idea of what life’s like behind the scenes.
Thx again Adam… yes very good value and I can see why you like it so much
You're welcome! It's a great place to be.

Whoa. Incredible! Prices are certainly rising here, but it’s still possible to find something that fits most people’s budgets.
AWESOME place to Live, one of the best ive seen
Thanks brother. Appreciate it!

Very informative... Yeah, I suppose you can do without a pool.
I think it depends on how much you love going in the pool as well.
Great info thanks. I’m looking to move to Bali soon but plan to rent for a year first to check out the best location for me before committing to long term buy/rent.
Yeah that's a great idea. It's honestly not for everyone and you need to find out what you like and don't like a particular place.
Thanks Adam for sharing your home with us what a great video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent Adam, thank you for sharing your lovely house. Nice your so happy there.
Thanks Fleur!

Cheers Adam, great deal of info in this video and your honesty around short term v long term and size and location are much appreciated

Thank you for your videos. Love to content and sharing your home views and price paid. This gives me a better idea on what I'll be looking for.
Glad it was helpful! I'll try and do more long-term accommodation videos in the future.
Mate , you are a cracker . love your videos . honest , easy and not pretentious. hope to run into you mid-December 2024 for a beer in sanur
No worries. See you then!
Lovely place! So big and very good value. Happy days! 😊😊
Yeah I'm very happy here.
thankyou for sharing great information
No worries. Glad you enjoyed it.
You always have very informative videos. Many thanks for all your hard work. Cheers
Thank you! I've got a lot more up my sleeve as well. I just need to find the time to deliver.
Thank you, very good and sensible advice.
Thanks! I'll try and get more info out there as time goes by on what the housing situation is like on the ground.

You are a sure messenger! If possible, give us house information more ❤😊 Thank you
Sure I'll explore more house options in the future!
What kind of visa did you get? Maybe do a vlog on the visa situation
I’ve thought a lot about doing videos on the visa situation, but the problem is that it’s really specific to each individual and I’m only knowledgeable about the visa I’m on. I’m married to an Indonesian so it makes things relatively easy.

Bali accomodation is expensive to live as an expat compared to other places in South East Asia like Thailand and Vietnam
Yeah I agree with that. I also think the quality in Thailand is better than in Indonesia. That said, if you look outside of Bali there are many cheap places in Indonesia to live… you just might not want to live there 🤣
Danang, in Vietnam is a lot cheaper and a great place to live but they don't offer retirement visas. At least Bali offers retirees a nice welcome.
peace be upon you sir
Thanks!
Very roomy
Cheers. Suits me perfectly.
$250 a week with most stuff paid ..bargain I'd say.
Yeah I'm happy with the price. As I said in the video, there is cheaper available and also much more expensive.
VLOG OFF
What do you mean, Peter?
