The Great Loop 006 Pushing Ahead Despite Difficulties

  • Chugging along with one motor has been surprisingly easy. The steering is a bit wonky and it's unsettling to not have a backup means of propulsion anymore if the remaining good motor should fail. But Kon Tiki 3 is still making way. This all feels like a metaphor for not giving up. A cliché for life. A test of my resolve. For I guess, no great adventure comes without some adversity. And lessons in life are often learned best by getting burned somewhat. So, here we are. Limping along. Pushing ahead. Making plans to get things fixed. In the next video, I realize how much fixing there really needs to be done. But first I take some time to enjoy a sunrise. And frolic with the dogs on a remote, sandy beach.

    I am no videographer, but I am a video consumer and to me, produced videos are always much, much better than live streams. I get that they are more difficult to put out, but it's worth the effort. Live streams involve too much time lag as the people interact with the viewers. They almost always lack a story line and therefore move more slowly. Your produced videos are sharp, thoughtful, thought provoking, relaxing, interesting, entertaining, and keep me coming back. Thanks Marty.

    If that same line popped off after you put clamps on it that means there's an obstruction somewhere in the pressure has to go someplace it's not making it through the filter unit replace that filter make sure that the blinds both flow freely

      @MrKeenaz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally agree with you. He’s run the motors before and not had an issue. Definitely something is obscuring the flow. I’d replace the whole unit for a better one and place it where I can get to it.

    Marty, you can't do this trip wondering if and when oil lines are going to fail. There many different hard line (stainless steel tubing), and braided stainless flex hoses that will be secure. Check out the automotive racing guys. They used to be called speed shops. I would even look at aircraft oil line set ups. Go to summitracing.com and browse their catalog. You have to do this right. You can also move the connection to somewhere easier to get to.
    Good Luck. R, Steve

      Good comment and I'll add, my father used to DIY his engine work on a Formula 233. He self installed oil pressure warning lights/buzzer in the instrument cluster right next to the oil pressure gauges. Having an audio/visual alarm back up to diligent cluster monitoring is a comfort. Might consider ...

    I think you need to pull in...get the boat looked at and decide if this is for you. Fix the issue and decide what to do. As you just started this trip from your home base and breaking down already. When I do the Loop in 5-6 years, I will not have the greatest, newest boat, or even the best running, but I just don't see things going well until your boat is in better condition.

      If you'd been paying attention, Marty said days ago that the other remote filter had clamps on the hose even though the manual says they are not required. The clamps are not the issue. Something has happened causing a serious pressure build up in the system and it keeps forcing the hose off. Maybe a blocked filter.
