    One thing I was told as well, dont know if it was an individual promotion or wrestler thing, but I was told always wipe your feet before you get through with the ropes...
    As for shaking hands, I find that an obvious one, it is about respect, even people I dont like, I will always offer my hand.
    I'm in training at the moment and listening to this series is interesting, I have not been in a locker room yet, but when I am at events, I always try and talk to the wrestlers when and where possible, I will watch intently if 2 wrestlers are putting there match together, I am always talking to my trainer and find if I dont know something, just ask.

    As a manager, what do you look for in wrestlers to work with and how do you convince them the gimmick will work?

    • @WrestlingWithWregret
      @WrestlingWithWregret  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lots of times it's not the manager's call who he works with at your typical indy show, that's the booker's decision to make. As a manager I can pitch to manage this guy or that guy and sometimes it'll happen.

  • @jimmyjones1551
    @jimmyjones1551 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I may have missed it but a big thing that will make an indy promoter extremely happy with you is being willing to do ring tear down and set up. Oftentimes the promoters local boys are the ones that do it and it goes a long way with getting on the good side of the promoter and the local guys doing so.

    Insightful stuff here. I was actually thinking of getting involved with my local indy fed, but more as a manager. I guess my question is do you have to have in-ring experience to be a good manager? Brian,
    How does calling a match work? I've been curious about this for years. I know guys like Justin Credible have made videos on this topic before but I was hoping you could articulate the idea a bit more clearly.

    • @WrestlingWithWregret
      @WrestlingWithWregret  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TheDarkLordOfBass The short answer is, guys call out a spot or sequence that comes next during an opportune time (headlock/chinlock, about to whip someone off the ropes, double-down, etc.). Some wrestlers are bad at doing it quietly (see: John Cena and Triple H), but if the crowd is loud enough it's virtually undetectable. Some people call it all in the ring, while others call minimal spots and plan out their bigger spots and sequences before their match. If you ever train to wrestle, you'll learn all about it!

      There are ways to improve mic skills. Take an acting class. U should be taught how to be confident in front of a crowd and how to get ur point across while maintaining character. However it's also going to depend on ur charisma which is what's gonna keep people interested.

    Zane I enjoyed the video. I'm looking to get into the business but where I'm at the only training I can get would be one day a week with an indie group. Should I do this or try to get enough money to go to a school? Just been torn about it since I have no money to go to the school and these guys will train me just for agreeing to be with their group but I feel training only 1 day a week would cause me to wait a really long time before I got in the ring. What do you think would be my best option

    • @WrestlingWithWregret
      @WrestlingWithWregret  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ray Neace Is it, like, a legitimate group that runs shows/draws crowds/makes money? Or is this just some backyard thing? If it's the latter, I recommend staying away!

    • @rayneace8250
      @rayneace8250 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Wrestling With Wregret Yeah they're a group that runs and draws money. They usually run like recreational centers and school gyms and things like that. Do you think the one day of training a week would be good enough or should I try to find some other option. If I could I'd go to the OVW School but I'm about three and a half or four hours from Louisville and have no money lol. Thank you for the help. I greatly appreciate it

    • @WrestlingWithWregret

      Ray Neace Once a week isn't bad (it's how the school I went to operated), but you'll find that you get better at it the more time you spend in the ring. See if they'll let you come in and practice on our own time, away from classes, it'll help a lot in the long run!

    People in all walks of life should be respectful and newbies especially should not be cocky and think they know everything. That goes double in something like wrestling where you really have to work with another person to put on a good show and not get either of you hurt.
    That said, my impression as a mere fan on the internet, is that pro wrestling is possibly the most ridiculous industry of any kind in terms of "respect" and "paying your dues" and generally giving newbies a hard time for being newbies. Sports and the military (and I would presume police and fire departments) have similar issues, but it seems like wrestling is the worst of this by far.
    Any thoughts on this from Zane or anyone else who has actually wrestling locker room experience?

    • @WrestlingWithWregret
      @WrestlingWithWregret  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +jliller Wrestling is a funny, funny profession. Lots of unwritten rules and an honor code a mile long, written in a few different languages. Some organizations follow that code to the letter, no matter how backwards, and others are more laid back and follow only a few of the basic tenants (respect your peers, cleanliness, don't be a dick, etc.). It all goes back to when wrestling was more of a secret society, before the end of kayfabe. You had to be able to trust everyone, and that's been the basis of a lot of those crazy locker room stories you've probably heard about. Even though the mystique is mostly dead, a lot of those traditions remain, for better or for worse.

    • @dariano56
      @dariano56 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Wrestling With Wregret I know I didn't ask the question, but thanks for that info. I've always wondered about these unwritten rules myself and this put it into perspective for me. Do you think over time some of the more backwards traditions will be phased out of wrestling?

      +OnionDokie Go through gimmicks you've seen/thought of, and then imitate them in front of a mirror and then try them on friends, at least in speech and mannerisms (not the moves).
      You'll throw away a LOT in the mirror round, and then a bunch more in the friend round, and with luck you'll have something left, and/or your friends will have given you some useful advice to guide you to a gimmick.

    Hi Brian love the series, I just have one question: do you know if fans would prefer a classic finisher like cutter, boston crab or chockeslam. Or something made up. thanks if you reply :)

    If someone wants to wrestle in Japan, does he have to be fluent in japanese, or is english good enough?

      +wtklpm Really couldn't tell you for sure! If you're part of a tour, I've read that there are usually translators available. But having some knowledge of the language wouldn't hurt!

    What would happen if you went to the WWE performance centre to just train? and how long would it take to get noticed by a big promotion like ROH NJPW WWE or TNA and which promotion would you suggest?

    • @chandlervanhoek859
      @chandlervanhoek859 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ryan Burgess (Knight of Loyalty) You don't go there just to train, everybody there is signed talent. They stay with the WWE until their contract is up or they are released. You can't sign up at the performance center like normal wrestling schools. And getting picked up by another promotion once your contract is up would depend on the impact you had in the WWE or NXT, if you have choice though, I would go the NJPW way.

      You don't just sign up at the Performance Center to train, you have to apply to the school and have a look that they want in order to get in. As far as the bigger non-WWE feds go, it is very difficult to get into any of them. You have to be very, very good, AND there have to be spots open. You just have to work at becoming the best you can be!

    I don't waste my time with Raw anymore. But apparently the punishment for attacking Triple H is getting a title match. And Super Reigns overcame 4 guys for the second night in a row, and became Wwe champion. They booked Reigns so strong that I expect Cena to beat him clean at Mania, just like every other strongly booked superstar of the past...Ever.
    So you're thoughts on Reigns becoming champion. I honestly don't hate it as much as Sheamus, but I don't care either

    • @WrestlingWithWregret
      @WrestlingWithWregret  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Chiko was here The thing is, he hasn't been booked very strong because he really doesn't win all that much. In fact, NOBODY does anymore, except for Cena. How can you get behind anyone who barely wins or wins very inconsistently? As Bryan Alvarez said in his show following TLC, they've finally figured out how to book Reigns correctly, except for the whole WINNING part. I hope they turn that around. I'll get behind Reigns if he can keep being a badass and winning.

      +Wrestling With Wregret Reigns is still winning because he wins every match. Also the "badass" Reigns is gonna disappear like Sandow's career.

    Hey Mr Zane, do you know if they choose your own gimmick? Or can you choose yourself? I mean there are some gimmick changes in WWE like Dean Ambrose from a security bouncer to a lunatic criminal or Tensai from a fat samurai to a dancing dinosaur. They can really ruin your career dont they? So I'd like to ask if you could stick to the same gimmick for... you know, the rest of your career?

    • @seanmcmahon5450
      @seanmcmahon5450 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      On the independent scene/circuit it's basically up to you how you want your character to be and on NXT you get a lot of control on who you want to be (your gimmick) but it is still is up to how Triple H and William regal want you to be because their your boss and on raw and smackdown you get barley to none ability to have control over your character because of the creative team and Vince being out of touch But let me say this (THE GREATEST GIMMICKS IN WWE) we're when the wrestler was just playing themselves in that role/character e.g Daniel Bryan, cm punk, shawn Michaels, Chris Jericho, the Rock and stone cold all were just amped up versions of themselves

    • @seanmcmahon5450
      @seanmcmahon5450 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also you can stick to the same gimmick for your careers entirety if WWE allows it (they usually change gimmicks because they don't feel the character is getting over which means no money for big vinny Mac) but you MUST be able to reinvent yourself if the WWE does decide to stick with that gimmick and the same goes for the indies if YOU decide to keep the character which means you need to keep fresh and stay relevant and I don't mean just changing you shirt colour or another catchphrase (John cena) i mean adding depth and connection to the audience and your character but updating on your appearance and branding your self with mottos and signature symbols (Daniel Bryan's beard and his YES Chant) is still just as important to help set yourself apart

      Short answer = No because you will run the risk of being a one dimensional performer, and there is NO room for one dimensional performers in a business that revolves around constant interaction. Especially now when gimmicks are "figured out" easier.
      Long answer = If you are willing to be booked in bigger venues, you will have to realize that it won't ever be your choice. In the beginning in really small promotions yes you do have a choice. But lets say my character is a sheltered momma's boy growing up and now I'm really mad at the world and pissed off that things didn't unfold perfectly like my mom said it would so I fight a lot (Raven in WCW pretty much). Can that REALLY last an entire wrestling career? Consider this: My absolute favorite performer in wrestling of all time is Raven. When he started in 1987, he was known as Scotty the body Flamingo. He was pretty much Tyler Breeze about 20 years too soon. Then he became Johnny Polo in WWE in 1994. It wasn't until 8 years after he started, 1995, when he became Raven. And even after that, in the 20 years he has played that gimmick, he has changed the way he cut his promos, his gear, and other stuff. There are exceptions but they are literally 1 in thousands.

      +Jake Rivera In the event that a wrestler is signed to WWE, more often than not, the gimmick is the choice of those in charge. You can pretty much do whatever you want in the independents.

    What about prepare to do something that you don't like? I think that it's what make the difference between wrestler.
    For example, a intergender match. That thing almost every time goes with sexual thing and a women wrestler need to agree with those thing. Or like Candice LeRae getting busted open for the BiZ
