I love the fact that you leave in the issues and show how to work around them. This is truly one of the best youtube series I've ever seen. As every video goes by, I find myself wanting more and more to start doing this. You're an incredible artist, Steve. And very inspiring!
You are extremely gifted at making these videos and these gemstones very informative. I know these are old but I just dug them up a couple days ago and I can’t stop watching them. Great job I don’t know if you’re still doing any but you did do some beautiful work and it’s nice how you can break it down and you explain everything because I have a learning disability but I can understand what you’re sayingas opposed to somebody else so for that, thank you very much
Glad you like them! Yep Steve is still cutting and we actually just released another series a couple weeks ago! You can see them all here: th-cam.com/play/PLwBsvcRI6nW-igkdv6wktCq26Z8x2ZH5T.html&si=-yqHybXFDqOmdfDW
Hello Steve I am a tool and cutter grinder in machine shop tools, ball end mills 45/90 chamfer mills., etc. And so I just wanted to say how much I enjoy watching you create a beautiful gemstone, what ever the cut maybe.. you are creating things that may last thousands of years, very cool
I'm just fascinated watching you cutting this gemstone. Wish that I had planned my life differently and gone into the jewelry field. As a young person I could have mined and collected the rough gems and spent the rest of my life cutting and making jewelry. You really did make good life choices!
Awesome work. I jave a whole new appreciation for my fiances Diamond that I bought for. Every time I look at it I will think of all the work that went into it!
Great Steve I watch this from beginning . Hope to get in touch with you soon . I also did my gem cutting by using a imahashi machine but not this type and that was when I was in Sri Lanka back . unfortunately all my skills gone faded as I am out of touch for so long. Very good work Steve. Wish you a long healthy life.
Great videos Steve! I really appreciate the details you provided and the nuggets of wisdom and experience you threw in. I notice you aren't wearing your ring, what stone is in the cab ring you often wear, an Opal?

Hey, check out this machine. It’s currently the one we are recommending: www.moregems.com/pages/cutting-faceting-machines-1?gclid=Cj0KCQiAw8OeBhCeARIsAGxWtUzUiFFy93eC72CoWgoDoJeuhVoJYtDDSQmglsTxHQbw4OhZL3aGhpUaAiUEEALw_wcB
Hi Steve, I've just started cutting the table on my first stone today. And I have to say after cutting all the other facets this table facet is making me feel quite nervous. I've cut some of the table, but it just feels like If I'm not careful I could tear the stone off. Cliff
Tables are tough but if you attached properly it should not be a problem. Sounds terrible when polishing as everyone in the shop can tell when you are polishing the table.
Quick question I have a few big pieces of Alexandrite that I want to seek two are in the rough One I almost have polished ,how do I go about selling them ? I Know they would be worth more cut .I seem to be having a problem with some kind of film in the stones im working on keep in mind I'm just a self taught individual not a gemologist with access to lapidary tools ,with that in mind what can do to take it off ? (Alexandrite & Ruby) Thank You for your time .
Hellow, very cool and informative videos, but i wanted to ask, is there any avaliable online source for the main basic diagrams that are used for cutting stones? Like basic - round, oval, square, triangle etc. Thanks in advance
how do I get started in cutting gems? I know basically nothing but I want to learn everything I can about it, what schools are good, where can I buy a set up like this?
You can purchase a machine from www.kingsleynorth.com/ or www.ultratec-facet.com/. If you go to the first introductory video and look in the video description there are a couple of books that we recommend to help you.
it was so worth the wait to see it, amazing job Steve, look forward to you posting it, I was just wondering will you ever be doing a video with the superman cut I would love to see how that's done , anyway great show tonight
+Robert like It should be up soon. Maybe in the future sometime, we do cut that style all the time. It does take a while to put these together and it's tough to make the time while running a shop. If you have any questions when your cutting one, please feel free to ask.
We generally (when possible) send it back to the manufacturer to have the machines calibrated. Unfortunately two of our machines are no longer manufactured/in business, so if we have calibration issues we will need to find another method as well. If you find out any information on DIY calibration, please let us know!
@@Moregems what was that the white stuff in the video before that you put on in the middle on the blue pad it was in a medicine bottle applied with qtips
They no longer make the machine I am using, but if you go to the text description of the first introductory video, you will see all of the equipment listed there. th-cam.com/video/w6FEaxgSNgg/w-d-xo.html
We've never used one, so unfortunately wouldn't be able to give you a review. If you look at our introductory video (video 1) description, we have a couple machines that we recommend on there.
hello sir... I just want to ask you about that machine ... I just wanna kno if there a smart kind of this machine ... mean ... the machine can do the job by computer order? I hope u answer that . thanks
Yes just last week I did a recut of a 4.87 carat natural unheated padparadscha sapphire. It was poorly cut with a large window. I closed the window increasing the brilliance significantly. Finished at 4.42 carats. Just went out to the Gemological Institute of America for a lab report. I previously had it graded to make sure it was the real thing before I spent the time cutting. A great stone of significant value due to its extreme rarity.
Unfortunately we don't do any outside cutting work. All the gems we cut are to sell in our shop as a loose gem or we custom design a mounting around the gem for our jewelry stock.
Wow! I'm speechless Steve. You are talented & are a wonderful person for sharing your years of knowledge. Could you list the tools needed please. Best lapidary machine, goggles, facet cutting guide, etc. Thanks again. I'm almost at the point to where I want to give it a try as a hobby. Take care & GOD bless.

real gem stone , glasss piece, agate and semi precious stones and marble stones all are different ? agate and gem stones are different ? marble rock and agate is different ? if I found transperant colour agate where I can sell them ? how much I can make money from agates ? how to know the difference between old glass piece (it may be 200 years old and due to years left it may be look like agate ?) so how to identify glass and stone difference ? I going to river side walk for 5 months, so from there I acn collect such agates? so will it pay me money? or it's just showpiece of showcase?
Doubtful, it is very difficult to identify and give a value via images or video over the internet. If you were local and could stop into our shop, we could do an appraisal for you. We could possibly quickly try to identify them if you wanted to send us a couple images via messenger on our facebook page: facebook.com/moriartysgemart
