    • @hazza335
      @hazza335 ปีที่แล้ว +65

      Yes there are definitely accents. I find a lot of Deaf teenagers mumble their sign!
      Also due to the visual nature of sign languages many Deaf can community with signers who use different languages. I know Australian Sign Language (Auslan) but am not a native user, I once met a Deaf person from Italy (totally different sign language) and we could chat a little but the communication broke down quite quickly. However my Deaf friends whose first language is Auslan could hold full conversations. They relied on the visual nature of the language.
      This is one of the reasons Deaf Interpreters are so important, and why they are often used to interpret complex situations such as with refugees and in mental health crises.

She’s not fully deaf, she just can’t hear enough to be qualified as hard of hearing. She can hear music, especially if it’s loud. On top of that, she can feel vibrations. I am glad she was the one to do it, signing music is different to signing a normal speech, because it's not just words, it's the music and she expressed the music and the words and how they were sung with exceptional skill, turing off the sound and watching her, you can still feel the music, and as a person with hearing I could still hear the music playing in my head as she signed.

      @@Toucan11 I doubt the deaf people you work with are trained interpreters and are also young, black women, and also understand and can embody hip-hop dance, music and culture the way that she can. Justina is truly the only person who checked all the boxes to interpret for this artist and this performance.

    • @Toucan11

      @@Jah_LEASE_yah oh, so now you know exactly what I do and the kind of deaf people I work with. I am also deaf, I dance and sign to music. Learn about it before you speak about, learn to read lips and so on. Talk when you know what your actually talking about. By the way, we’re you actually there to see WHAT boxes needing checking. You clearly have no idea what your talking about and regardless, she only addressed the black community, not the other millions. Keep dividing yourselves as it works in your favor and when it doesn’t work in your favor, you can go play your racism card. How about you stick to doing what YOU know best.

    • @Jah_LEASE_yah
      @Jah_LEASE_yah ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Toucan11 I don’t know how this turned into an argument. Please explain what I said that was offensives because my literal only point was that as a young black woman who clearly loves and appreciates hip hop, and is a trained in asl music interpreting she is uniquely qualified for this job. I didn’t say that there aren’t any other deaf people that like music, or know how to dance, or anything or the sort. And I didn’t pull any racism card. But since your brought that into the conversation, yes, I do think that a black woman, especially a black woman who understands hip-hop culture, is more qualified to interpret for Rihanna then a white interpreter. If that offensive to you then maybe you need to check with yourself and your own racial biases.

The camp was not only for the deaf community but for non-dead siblings who needed to learn ASL to communicate in the family, as well as interpreters. We had massive speakers and a Jumbotron with ASL music videos. It was awesome for the kids to sing karaoke in sign language, jamming to Katy Perry and Rihanna. I love everything about this story.
