    She said in one of the interviews that she wanted for the deaf community to be able to “see” the beat. Each movement was intentional and created so they could feel the rhythm of the songs. I am just amazed with her beauty and her energy.

To become valedictorian, means you received the highest gpa within that graduating class. Also you need to take challenging courses on top of having the highest gpa. She graduated with a 4.0 at the model secondary school for the deaf, but I'm quite sure if she had chosen to attend a regular high school she would of excelled there as well.
      Also, she's hard of hearing not completely deaf.

From what I know of interpreting music, it’s not exactly done on the spot - well, it can be, but is likely to result in the less-entertaining sign language interpreters we’re used to seeing. There’s definitely been an uprising in music interpreters extremely dedicated to convey not just the words, but the VIBES of the music as well. It’s turned sign language interpreting into an art form for sure!
      Sorry, bit of a ramble, but I as I was saying, from what I heard, this type of interpretation isn’t done on the spot, it’s carefully prepared and practiced, like unique cover songs. That said, she must’ve prepared a ton to create this set, even her dancing between songs seemed so carefully thought out, it perfectly portrayed the beats. I wonder if she had to be near a speaker to feel the vibrations? Otherwise, I don’t know how she would’ve stayed on-beat so perfectly the entire time (assuming she doesn’t have a cochlear or something like that, which I don’t know of course!)

      Yeah when I was doing stuff in school, obviously just taking a year or two of ASL we're not going to be nearly at a professional interpreters level no matter what but there were definitely songs that we were drawn to because they were easier and they're definitely not like what's in this video!

      Can I ask you a question?? I am so intrigued by these amazing performances!! How do they know the beat and stay on beat so well?? And then when the song changes, they know exactly when. And they know to change the beat. How do they do that?!?! I am dying to know! It's so impressive!!!

    • @victorialopez9717
      @victorialopez9717 ปีที่แล้ว +119

      @@kassygendron3022 Well most ASL interpreters are hearing and this one isn't 100% deaf. She is legally deaf because she is significantly hard of hearing so I'm guessing this interpreter has some kind of hearing aids. She did an interview on "CBS Morning" or whatever it's called and she said she was very familiar with all the songs already but she was given a set list about a week in advance. So what she did was memorize how to sign and then she planned how she was going to move to each song. I'm guessing she knew how the music was going to sound too with the remix versions and stuff because Rude Boy was insane! But as far as your question about how they can stay the beat/know the beat - for someone who is profoundly or completely deaf, they can usually feel it in their feet. I've seen deaf musicians/singers on talent shows and they come on stage barefoot or just in socks. It's for that reason. I have partial hearing loss myself and I can tell you I can feel sound sometimes better than I can hear it on a bad day.

    Wow! She made ASL look cool af. Thanks for this video finally was able to see her whole performance. She was truly something that we've never seen, I heard her say on CBS Gayle King morning show that she was signing the beat of each song along w/the lyrics, she was beautiful her energy, facial expressions & dances truly gave us a show. The world fell in love with her overnight & now more people want to learn ASL. She deserves every success coming her way, I hear she's quite a driven & smart young woman 🙌🏾 👏🏾 ✨️ 🤎

      Facial expressions and energy are really important in sign language. People don't just talk with their hands, they emote with their eyes, mouth and whole body to add emphasis, just like we raise and lower pitch in spoken language. Rolling your eyes, shrugging shoulders, grinning slyly, these add tone and context to the facts being conveyed. She really nailed it!

    She really popped off on Pour It Up and slayed the entire performance. Even before knowing she wanted the deaf community to feel everything that was what I noticed. She would imitate going across the Tom’s on a drum kit and accentuated every bass kick and all the rhythmic Melodie’s perfectly matched the energy of the songs. Really cool to see something I’d love to do since that’ll be my main area of study in grad school (:

      Really, the terms are D/deaf and Hard of Hearing.
      Often terms we think we're trying not to be offensive with can be pretty offensive. For example disabled people like the term disabled people not handicapped.
      Not upset just spreading some understanding 😊

    • @masterofwit339
      @masterofwit339 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was actually thinking that audibly challenged was the better “new way” of describing it but so much changes so quickly it’s hard to keep up. I’ve always used handicapped tho. A friend of mine in high school (I’m in my 40’s now) would correct anyone (teachers included) if they said the r- word or anything outside of handicapped.

    my favorite parts:
    0:31 “a shot”
    1:15 the way she signs the synth-sounding music
    2:16 the way she signs “heart”
    2:31 LIKE A MAN
    3:58 holy hell this whole part is so good
    5:51 the way she signs the lyrics and then the sound effect
    6:45 so good
    6:55 bands make you girl go down
    8:06 when the lights + sign + vocals line up
    9:35 how she signs the vocals
    11:59 the lights lining up again

    I've watched Ms. Miles' full performance twice and watched my favorite three performances of hers at least five times each. She has mesmerized, fascinated, hypnotized, and delighted me. I have no idea how technically accurate the signing was, but I 100% know that her visual and musical artistry was perfect! I'm sure she worked on this project for two or more months because it showed! This was absolutely amazing!
    Some of you who clicked on this video probably won't watch all or even most of it, but I believe that you should have the option of seeing just the highlights before clicking away. So...I'll direct you to the three songs that are the best - in my opinion. Her best performance (which I believe is the best visually, musically, and even though I don't know ASL, is to me the most technically impressive) begins at 03:58 with "Rude Boy". Her next strongest performance (or maybe it's a tie with "Rude Boy") is "All Of The Lights" at 07:51, followed by "Work" which is right behind "Rude Boy" at 04:36. I hope you all enjoy at least these three performances even if you don't see the whole video. Loved it!!
