Just discovered a drum circle and didn't realize this even existed. It's nice to see young & old, black, white, whatever, play together in harmony. We are now looking to get some drums and participate, since this circle is VERY open to anyone who wants to join. Great fun!!
I love love LOVE drum circles!! I have been part of a large drum circle for a little over a year and I am just in love with all of the people! It has truly changed me as a person... for the better!
the revolution was seen not as dangerous but as natural and necessary like the fire of brigid, the heartbeat of life in a healthy world, the wisdom of the tribes went beyond race, and beyond, dualities to groups who attuned themselves to an area in love, and created energetic tapestries around it to draw in a spirit of abundance independence and harmony as the sick parts began to fall away, i saw more of myself i realized the process is always changing never fixed, always conversing
Love playing in a drumming circle around a fire at night. One soon comes to realize in their heart and mind, that the rhythms being drummed there. Are the same that have been played by our ancestors for tens, if not hundreds of thousands of years. Just blur your eyes just a little and it's easy to imagine those surrounding you are wearing tanned animal skins for clothing. Instead hoodies and blue jeans!
@Xanubi I know the feeling! And the people who go to drum circles and fire circles are all so warm and open-hearted. It is such a wonderful thing to be a part of. I've grown up with drum circles and fire circles, and it has indeed shaped me into the person I want to be.
I want to say, despite all the nasty comments and criticisms, THANK YOU for posting this. It is all very true to me personally. Being a part of a drum circle or fire circle makes me feel one and connected with the earth. It gives me a sense of community and belonging. It helps me show my true self, lose myself, and find myself. It is a great way to release unwanted feelings, and to express feelings of joy and empowerment. Thank you for this.
this is beautiful...keep the peace and love flowing through us all with these wonderful beats.....im sure this was a magical night for all who were involved
more and more i was able to open up and see infinity, and dream seamlessly and be awake without forcing but finding the groove of love the infinite, this simple story of moving on a nomadic life but a life so psychic everything was already fulfilled i knew i would leave half of myself behind to wander while the other half would guide to slowly wake up but both sides were needed, because both parts were beautiful and amazing and it was part of something deeper
I always loved stuff like this you can feel the rythumn sorry think I spelled that wrong but you can hear the music. The beat and it's very relaxing I would love abosulty love to go to a drum ciricle it looks so cool.
buddha rainbow, buddha rainbow, pull a good spirit from the maze, no two rainbows are ever the same and they all go on forever, first maybe they are just colors but by mixing we make the forms of deeper life growing into such different things and yet it all works together unconsciously, all the elements resonating, in different proportion creating the prismatic mandala of being so complex, even more complex than our own minds, but eventually out minds become one with it as we realize we are all
Drum circles are pure energy of the hills and forest, humans imitating nature, which is where all music derives, music was here before we were, only uptight World of Warcraft freaks bash drum circles.
i saw us as the universal people, in a strange but very heartfelt understanding of the world, the way my spirit came together those like me, it was both old and new, it was reasonable, it was primal but also very advanced
@svnthdysthsbbth : Perhaps not, but it is the spirit of the earth. It is the earth's beat, a primal one, and there is nothing wrong with that. There are times that I find nothing more pure and relaxing than the beats of a drum circle.
Do drum circles tend to have more experienced drummers leading and changing rhythms, with others filling in improvisationaly? Or is it usually completely improv? I've served a few times as a follower/heartbeat drummer alongside a master level percussionist for belly dancers, but I've never really been part of a casual drum jam. She had specific rhythms that she would lay down. Newbs like me would pick up on it, then she would riff and solo, or switch to other instruments.
The pure physical euphoria you can get from playing fast 8th notes as a group for half an hour is primal. Yes people come that aren't the most rhythmically well off. But that's ok, that's the best part of a drum circle. They aren't show offey, they aren't strict. The drum is a circle for a reason, there is an equality to all who play. No one in a circle is better than another. As long as everyone is there feeling the rhythm than it's all good.
As someone who is studying world music at school and so must do classical performance studies along with studying various world traditions I will let you know that while the rhythms aren't complex in drum circles it's just the fact that everyone locks in, that you just keep going, there isn't a set time or composition. If you feel something new you act on it. I will admit, I agree with you that yes sometimes people go to drum circles to feel "primal" but I don't see a problem in that.
All of you bashing on it have never actually played in one, though this vid is a little intense, it is a lot of fun rather than a "healing experience." For many it may be, just not myself.
i think people miss the point of drum circles...youre not trying to make beautiful music, its a bunch of people that get together and just jam. its actually quite therapeutic
it seems under all good vidz there will invariably exist a long list of hateful derogatory, completely meaningless comments. love the vid. watch the vid. if you dont like it, watch a different vid. ...
@glorplaxy Okay, you obviously have not heard a good drum circle!! And whats with all the anger? calm down, take a deep breath... everythings going to be okay. I hope one day you won't be so unhappy, and insecure. Sending much love your way!!
together and relate in a feeling, spiritual way, until all that existed was the true infinite reality the rainbow world and everything began to automatically self liberate again,
I play drums, bass, trombone, ukulele, baritone ukulele, and best of all, djembe. It's insulting that someone who seems to truly love music can put any music down. Maybe if it just doesn't tickle your fancy, you shouldn't even be searching for it on TH-cam? Just a side note, Guitar Center sells the most disgusting African drums on the planet. Try a hand made djembe straight from Africa and marvel in it's glory.
I can agree with everything that you've written, apart from saying an orchestral percussionist plays to impress an audience. I think the melding of refined expertise and the genius behind the composers work, often if not always gets "deeper" into the music than a drum circle. Both are great forms of music and expression, but it would be wrong to pull down classical music in the defense of a drum circle. IMO
As a non-rhythmically-challenged white guy, I'd be more offended if it wasn't true that people that form drum circles tend to have little to no sense of rhythm.
Whenever you criticize hippie bullshit, such as this, hippies always respond with "Oh, well you've never tried it, so stop criticizing something you don't understand. You're so ignorant." I have never tried yoga. I have never tried a drum circle. I know exactly what they are, and I can imagine how people might enjoy them. The thing is, it isn't the experience that I'm criticizing, it's the principle and idea of it. It is new age bullshit. There is no denying this.
so because i don't like your drum circle i must be "crippled", "narcissistic", "self absorbed", and "pathetic"? yikes! and i thought hippies were supposed to be tolerant...

i love drum circles, they are so lovely and great to do with others. when we all get the rhythm, i can't stop smiling.
Drumming is a spiritual journey into the soul.
ive been playing the drumkit for 6 years. I enjoy these gatherings alot more than playing on a kit.
Liam Mulraney yrs I agree with you 100 percent. I play my drum and I love it. very relaxing music and meditation the mind and heart
I attended one at a "BARTER FAIR" in Tonasket, WA. in 1992 although not as a "participant", just an observer. THIS - GOES - ON - ALL - NIGHT - LONG!

If I were to choose a sound to symbolize humanity, this would be it
We have a monthly drum circle here in Alabama. Freakin love it! I have a 16" djembe that rattles the windows of my house when I play at home
Who ever you are, if you ever take part in one of these, u would love it! You just get sucked in the moment, it awesome

chilling in a sick drum circle, smoking up.

Amen brother/sister. True dat!

Very nice atmosphere :). good rythms :-D... good vibes! Keep it up!

Drum circles make me feel like vomiting up my intestines.
You said volumes there, dcan03!!!

No, this was shot at the Florida School of Massage in Gainesville during a party they held for a graduating class.

For all of you who are bashing this....you wouldn't be, if you had ever participated in a drum circle!
@glorplaxy You hate yourself, but you are still loved.
Please send me the mp3. I think I could add this to my night time playlist.
it seems under all good vidz there will invariably exist a long list of hateful derogatory, completely meaningless comments. love the vid. watch the vid. if you dont like it, watch a different vid. ...
@BanjoEclipse I guess a beating heart isn't natural.

Can we all just get along?
@glorplaxy Okay, you obviously have not heard a good drum circle!! And whats with all the anger? calm down, take a deep breath... everythings going to be okay. I hope one day you won't be so unhappy, and insecure. Sending much love your way!!

and how much pot did U smoke B4 U came 2 that conclusion?
@bassman69504 That shows how little you appreciate and attentively listen to music. Break out of your social-constructed shell.

Maybe if some of you could act with a little civility and without bashing experiences that you clearly don't understand, you could find appreciation.
show off, not everyone has that much time on their hands, some of us have 2 work! Ps UR right about Guitar Center, its corporate franchise crap!
Cindy Hope why are you so negative about it?
Didgeridoo is missing. Go more tribal and uneven the rythms!!!!
whats wrong with that?
can someone explain why all drum circles are made up of the most-rhythmically challenged people (white people , that is)?
*tries to see the original comment* FFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
@svnthdysthsbbth Satan will empower those who side WITH demons, and he is by far the superior deity.
Sorry, I just don't enjoy hearing a bunch of people attempt to play drums. Therapeutic or not it still sounds terrible.
