Came across this video after a trip to Jade where I climbed Dip Top & Lynch (this past weekend). Wish I'd seen this before and maybe I would've tried the traverse and return to Jade via this route. Super cool!
Gabe, I have done it several ways mostly for a quick get-away. I like to think that the views are worth repeating this type of trip. Enjoy your summer as we still have it! Randy :)
Just absolutely stunning scenery and so well made! You must have been one tired cookie once you were back at the car. At least I hope you were, that would make me feel better. (Because I would have been exhausted) Again, your excellent commentary turns a scenic, melodic video into a masterpiece, super helpful and enjoyable for those determined to follow in your footsteps.
Thanks Joel. I appreciate you taking the time in your busy day to look. This trip is a lot of fun and is a sunrise to sunset event. Just plan on coming out in the dark, like when we were on Mt Wright. If you want to try it, I am sure you would like it, just let me know! Thanks again, Randy
Randy! Just summited last week and had a blast! It was my first summit ever actually. I was with a local who was fairly experienced and we didn’t do the ridge traverse! We should have swam in pea soup lake! Next time.
Thank you Eiger. I am enjoying the create part of videos. They are more involved than just a simple still photo. I didn't realize the difficulties until I tried. I hope I get better with practice. Happy travels to you in 2017! Wishing all good things, the best, to you and yours! Also, I wanted to mention that you working in the medical field is awesome. I am afraid to look while I give blood. It is so amazing how people can heal with time. Randy :)
Thank Eric! I would love to get out with you again on anything this 2017. I think I have cabin fever again, especially with all the snow we have been getting.
Hey Randy, awesome trip and video. Thanks for sharing. Similar to Andrew above, I’m considering a 3 day/2 night trip looping Daniel, Dip Top, and Jade/Marmot. Which route did you take down the Lynch Glacier to Pea Soup Lake? Was it to the northeast or northwest off the west summit of Daniel?
From the summit, I usually head East to the snow col of the Lunch glacier. You can see it is just left of center and touching the skyline, above the crevasses. I then will head down and to the left to skirt the rock. Then continue left (West) to the snow field to the far right of Daniel. It can be icy sometimes, so you might want crampons. Usually I won't take crampons, but you should have an ice axe in case you slip. Randy
Randy your stuff is so inspiring. I'd LOVE to get into this! Would you ever make a video talking about your gear setups for this kind of mountaineering? I do a lot of trail hiking/snowshoeing/simple scrambles. But I have NO idea what to take or what needs to be learned for climbs like these! Do you hike the entire thing in mountaineering boots? If so which? How much gear are you taking? Ect. I am desperately trying to get away from the hundreds of hikers, and it seems places that are more difficult to get to like this is the way to do it!
Hi KaskadeHD! I saw one of your videos on Pete Lake and it was awesome. I am planning on a TH-cam video about how to travel light while climbing, going through my equipment for alpine terrain. I usually go 2-3 days in a 35 to 40 liter pack, which can be tight; That is rope, rack, runners, sleeping stuff, clothes, food, axe, crampons and perhaps snowshoes. I don't take anything extra or unnecessary. As for climbing, it is usually easy to start if you have a friend that climbs or find a climbing partner at a climbing rock area or perhaps the mountaineers. Climbing partners come and go and climbers are always looking for both the next climb and a partner. If you need any ideas then just leave me an email, I would be happy to help with what I know! Randy :)
I was looking to do mt daniel in two weeks. I was gonna make jade lake my base camp and go up lynch. Question is, could I make pea soup lake my base camp? And can one actually do lynch unroped solo in late September? How where those crevasses?
From Jade Lake there are no crevasses on Lynch. You should be able to get to Pea Soup lake in 2-3 hours. I climbed Lynch only once and from the east edge of Pea soup lake, there is a very dangerous rock slide area that can take you off into the lake, perhaps traverse high or climb from the Jade Lake side. I think there is a route on the Jade Lake side too, yet I am not familiar with it. Paul Tomas, if you climb Dip Top you have 2 options. first the valley to the pass and it is fairly straight forward. The other way is to zig-zag on dip top starting from Jade lake to the right .....short on time, if you want to leave your phone of email. we can talk. Randy :)
I was hoping to camp at jade for one night, then cross over to the other side of pea soup lake camp there for a night, it looks like there may be a bivy spot over there. then more or less take your route seems with my ascent bag. So it doesn't sound like going around pea soup is very easy then aye? Yeah you can email me: tomas11b@yahoo.com This climb is gonna be just after my mt stuart climb and glacier peak climb back to back, so I'm guessing I'm gonna be beat.
Paul, I just emailed you and if you give me your phone via email we can talk about the options. I have done the Mt Daniel Dip Top loop several many times as a day trip. It is about a 15 hour on the move trip. Others will take a few days. Just to get to the the area you have several good options. It is a beautiful place. There are excellent bivy spots on the East of Pea Soup Lake and also great spots at the outlet of the lake, on the west side. Both Dip Top and Lynch have fantastic views. I am looking forward to talking with you! Randy :)
@@RandyT_RandyLikesToClimb Hey Randy, I have been doing some research to hike Jade Lake/Dip Top/Lynch/ Mt Daniel for a 3 day/ 2 night backpacking loop, including part of what Paul mentioned. I will be making a trip in late September so if you get a chance can you please email me at a.stark44@gmail.com ..your videos are awesome by the way!
Eric, it took me a while to find the link. www.mountainproject.com/v/400-grizzlies-in-the-cascades/112476948 I would be happy to be in the minority on this issue. After all, Einstien was also in the minority. Actully he was on his own just like some climbers. It looks like I can show up at a public meeting and I just might. I usually don't have problems with bears. Wolves and cougars are trouble even if you hold your ground. If I understand what you are saying, I agree we don't need to have more trouble by do-gooders (city-boys). I will give you a call soon to double check what you are saying. I want to understand you clearly. Ohhh I almost forgot that I was thinking of bringing a gun to climb Lotus Flower Tower in the Northern Territories of Canada. I would hate to be killed by a bear while trying to get to the face of the climb. If someone gets killed it should be the bear, not me, that is common sense.

I did it my first time at age 11. I like how it is so close to Seattle, but still rather remote. Being void of trails for the loop I take.
Incredible... Love your videos man! Thanks for sharing :)
Thanks Tom! I enjoy making the videos and am glad you like it. Randy :)
Cool stuff Randy! Beautiful!
Loved it, as always with all your videos and pictures!!!
