I've been saying this for a while. Canada has like 12 refineries. States have over 200.
Incentivize Canadian investors to build refineries. This would create massive amounts of jobs. Which would stimulate the economy.
The same goes for lumber, where all of our investors have gone to the states and left Canada behind.

Yes, we do have allies that we RELY on for protecction and YES we have been LUCKY thus far with our alliances with other countries; especially, our American neighbours. That's not how we do things. First we use tax dollars to create it, then once it makes money we sell it to private interests to make loads more money to concentrate wealth. Think CN Rail & PetroCanada. The 34 billion dollar Trans Mountain Pipeline will be the next. Private interests will get all that infrastructure for pennies on the dollar.

Which is exactly why the tariffs won't work; the US is still dependent on Canada for oil and electricity, and by the time they build the infrastructure to produce their own then Trump will be long out of the oval office. The whole thing truly doesn't make any sense. I'll paraphrase Trump: "I don't like that we need Canada and that the prices are unfair so I'm going to slap a tariff on all their imports making MY citizen pay 10%-25% more on things we cannot get elsewhere."
Can someone please explain to me as though I'm 5 years old how a tariff can possibly work if they don't have the infrastructure to wean off Canada and will continue to buy from Canada? I mean, isn't he just stealing from his own people?

The Canadian government has been stifling its own people for decades, suppressing the entrepreneurial spirit of the middle class through excessive red tape and bureaucratic barriers. A strong middle class is essential for a thriving economy, yet policies have consistently worked against small and mid-sized businesses. It’s time to prioritize Canadian success-bring manufacturing back, invest in local businesses, and focus on building up Canada rather than outsourcing prosperity elsewhere. Canadians must come first, now and always.

@@S_Bellew We have active trade agreements with many countries around the world. That is why the first tranche of tariffs against US products will not hurt Canada as much. We have alternative sources.

If we would have just secured our borders, there would not have been any tariffs ..I am very disappointed in our Conservative leadership that did nothing on borders besides Alberta Premiere Danielle Smith.

Poilievre’s response to Trump’s tariffs and his plan to deal with them is 100% better than the one given by the incompetent clown who still clings to power despite “resigning”. Now more than ever we need a real leader, not the lame-duck PM who turned Canada into an economic basket-case.

You can't tell it's unjustified and unfair when all American food chains and big corporations are inside Canada and creating job for immigrants with low wages and Canadian government charges people high taxes.
You have a war against Canadian citizens.
You should value your Citizens first then talk.
