Poilievre calls for emergency tax cut to put Canada 1st while condemning Trump's tariffs | FULL

  • Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre reacted on Sunday to U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs on Canadian goods. Trump's executive order was signed on Saturday and the tariffs take effect Tuesday.
Poilievre condemned President Trump's "massive and unjustified tariffs, which will damage both American and Canadian economies." He's calling for an immediate tax cut to put Canada first.
He also posed a question to Americans: "A 25 per cent tariff on Canada and only a 10 per cent tariff on China? In what strategic mindset does that make sense? If it's to do with fentanyl, the fentanyl is coming from China," Poilievre said.
"We must retaliate dollar for dollar, carefully aiming those tariffs at maximizing the impact on American companies while minimizing the impact on Canadian consumers and businesses," Poilievre said.

Interprovincial trade barriers are not tariffs but are an aggregate of many factors such as lack of regulatory harmonization and import/export restrictions on things like alcohol. Yes we should work to fix this problem, but it's actually laundry list of individual silly problems. One famous example, it's illegal for certain trucks to drive on the road in Alberta during the day, and illegal in BC for them to be on the road at night, with only a one-hour overlap period. This is just two provinces with sensible safety regulations in isolation, but neither wants to be the one to make the change to harmonize with the other. A more complicated problem is straight up protectionism, such as wine producing provinces favouring their own industries and making it harder to buy wine from BC or Ontario in Nova Scotia for example. Hopefully a silver lining of this situation is that we get our act together on this file and have real free movement of goods across this country.

As a farmer, the liberal government has us chained to the ground. Some of us sell produce to local vendors during the cold months. But we need heat to keep the plants from freezing. With heat, there is carbon tax. The tax is a massive burden for all. But the liberal government will buy produce from other countries. For other countries to ship their food causes more pollution transporting it to Canada.

Especially not in today’s world. Historically, the only people advocating for complete self-sufficiency were FAR right and far left politicians. Free trade is simply a superior policy (economically, but perhaps not politically).

Prime example is Alberta oil; BC and first nations bands need to drop their opposition to oil pipelines going out to the west coast and Ontario & Quebec need to do the same for an Energy East pipeline. If not there is a risk that Alberta would want out of Canada which would lead to the splintering of Canada as a nation and lead us to be annexed by the US. @@autograndeunlimited Trudeau did that when he made pot legal. The illegal guns were what was traded straight across for Canadian weed after those dealers lost their market to the Government. It was a terrible decision to make weed legal since it's illegal in America.
Ask any Drugs and Vice cop.
Fentanyl is much worse. Precursors that are illegal in USA are imported legally into Canada to make the drugs here. They're sold and the profits are washed in our Government casinos, literally they bring in bags of cash, buy chips, play a little, cash out clean. Then, they buy a house or condo with it. It's called the Vancouver Model, it's being exposed now by a few journalists willing to look into it because some politicians are implicated.
What does that implication look like? Ask Chief Bergen of Hamilton Police. They recently had to let a fentanyl player go, big guy too, no small time dealer, because the federal Gov wouldn't authorize the cheque to pay the Crown Attorney contracted to the case.
Chief Bergen is asking for the public to pressure Gov to do the right thing because the criminals that cops bust are being let go in this way.

Alining with the EUSSR is the problem that got us here in the first place.
A common sense approach would be to discuss the details of the liberation of Canada by the US.

aligning with EU will likely bring more issues, EU is falling apart man, Canada just needs to learn how to maximize their assets and stand on their own, no other country in the world has the natural resources and internationals relations that we have for long-term self-sustainability yet we don't use it

If we sell less lumber to the USA, we will have more lumber to build more houses and grow our population faster. We should also build refineries here in Canada so we no longer need to sell crude oil and import gas or diesel. Less for them means more for us.

@@TallicaMan1986 Offer and demand set the price of market goods. Our production will not stop, but the sales to the US will. Therefore, the price of Lumber should go down, making it less expensive to build houses in Canada. What part do I get wrong?

@@MainCharacter-ii6mo why would the price of lumber go down? You do realize we make more money selling to the US than we do at home right? 60 cents vs 1 dollar. Which one would profit for us more? If USD is no longer flowing into the country. Somehow us Canadians with our weak dollar is going to need to make up for the lost profits. Or the industry will die. Not only this. We don't have the population to make up for the lost profits unless we sell the lumber back to us for more. Not cheaper. Our lumber Indusrty isn't self sustaining. We run on USD when dealing. Not CAD.

It’s not exactly hard to figure out.
Unless your money is invested into something in the economy it’s only serving you.
Banks don’t need your money so that’s not good enough.
You have to own a business or be putting money into one.
Otherwise you only work for your own wants.
Being a consumer is not enough to sustain an economy, especially one with limited investment like Canadas. -NCR
