    They came out great! Using the magnets instead of big hardware was such a good idea! And it was fantastic that you included the full process. And it's really cool that 42 Fab is going to include this in their kits!

      Thanks! The magnet idea was a last second thought but once I gave it a try it was a no brained. It made for a really nice streamlined look. I didn’t want the hardware to be a focal point of the piece anyway.

      Oh just you wait for the next one hehehe. We actually have a few up our sleeve, it’s all a matter of which one gets edited first

    Oh Hey! Did y'all know you can get one yourself and support two small businesses? Check out www.42fab.com/weld-it-yourself/lantern

    Great job Brooke. These lanterns look incredible and it was so fun to watch the whole process.

      Thanks so much for watching, Leslie! This was a concept I had been really wanting to put together for a while and I am pretty pleased with how it turned out.

    Great info all around. Really appreciate you explaining the design and learning, and what you might change!

      Thanks so much! I love the process of taking a project from idea to completion and wanted to try and chronicle the creative process as well as I could on this one

    Really fun project, came out great and looked like it was fun to make!
    Since you mentioned incorporating the standoffs for the roof, it might actually be cool if you sort of mirrored that and had little feet in the corners, I would then inset the bottom/ floor up a 1/4" from the bottom edge of the sides, and weld it from underneath, then you wouldn't even need to worry about grinding those welds, and they'd be easy because they would be inside corners. Having 4 feet would also make it a lot easier to get the lantern to sit flat without rocking, and I think you could have some fun coming up with cool shapes for the feet. Looks like the weld it yourself kit isn't finalized yet and I know you guys are heavily focused on PPE production right now.

      Hmmmm... all good thoughts. I’ll have to mess around with the file and see what sticks. This project was genuinely so much fun for me; I could mess with designs like this all day. Thanks so much for the input! And I’m glad you enjoyed the video

    That is a really cool project. I should try to remember the cardboard prototype trick .
    I would like to suggest though designing it so the welds can be done on the inside, six or 7 tacks per side should be plenty.
    The outsides can be trued up using a file.
    It would save you tons of welding and grinding.

      Thanks! I don’t weld too too often so I really appreciate design input 👌🏻

      And as the other commenter said, just tacks will suffice. It's a lantern, not a race car chassis.

    Have you tried making the design similar to a finger joint box and Just do a small stitch weld where the fingers go through the slots then grinding it back flush

    Why didn't you just do short welds on the inside? Also they turned out really nice

    • @MakersWorkshopLLC
      @MakersWorkshopLLC  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. It’s just the way that I went with it. Short welds on the inside would also work and would probably save some time.

      @@MakersWorkshopLLC understandable. I likely would have done the same without a second thought

    • @MakersWorkshopLLC
      @MakersWorkshopLLC  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@stocky9218 also, I don't weld all the time so any chance I get to run a longer bead is practice in my eyes.

    Nice job. But i highly recommend you to get a tig welder is a game change more clean more fun and less work also jus my opinion but you can get away with out grinding if you weld them from the inside

  • @kevinjohnson9372

    U could f got it the first 3 pieces relief cut and scored so u could take it from flat and bent it to shape then do a little welding and put the front on and rhe top could be scored and bent to shape easy and lower the amount of weld time

    there are 2 mistakes you have done ... first you should wield all these from inside ... 2nd you can place a wall inside 2nd hut to show this as old chinese house ... looks cool

      No no no no. I weld professionally and my first thought was she should weld the inside but she cans also outside welds usual look nicer as your covering the gaps.
