As some background: The Nobel Prize for Peace went to Narges Mohammadi, an Iranian woman held in prison for advocating for women's and girls' rights. She was sentenced to 31 years in prison and 154 lashes of the whip. The prize was presented to her twin children, who are about AJ's age. Bear in mind, that AJ is 1/4 Iranian as Granda Mery is from there originally. This song was written for a 1955 movie dealing with someone held prisoner and away from loved ones. AJ gave her heart and soul, and it brings tears to my eyes every time i listen to this rendition.
Absolutely phenomenal performance by AJ , this is the second time Angelina has performed at the Nobel Peace Prize concert the first time Angelina was 8-9 years old in 2014 where she sang ( What A Wonderful World) , also Angelina has collaborated with the orchestra known as the Norwegian Kork orchestra before Angelina sang her take of the Amie Winehouse rendition of (Back to Black ) at 10 years old, and also Angelina sang ( Summer Time) with the same orchestra,Angelina is obviously so proud to be home in Oslo Norway where she is considered to be Norways national treasure, Angelina is so special! Great reaction thanks!
It will be the force of Ms. Jordan's persona and message, as well as her passion and dedication to her artistry, that will make Ms. Angelina Jordan's name synonymous with greatness. Rb
You have to hear Angelina at her happiest performing the Etta James classic Something’s Got A Hold on me live at an outdoor festival. I know you have previously reacted to her singing I Have Nothing but her best performance of this song was live outdoor at the all sang festival. Check it out as she was wearing a stunning gown featured in some of her latter performances. Love your enthusiasm and heart felt reactions to one of the greatest artists of all time. I believe she is the only artist to perform twice at the Nobel ceremony.
This is my new favorite version of this amazing song, ever. The "Angels" will fill you in on the amazing Narges Mohammadi, who has been fighting for women's rights in Iran where she has been in & out of prison there for years, while her husband & 17 yo twin children (boy & girl) live in exile in France. She is currently undergoing a hunger strike in prison while being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. That's why this song is so appropriate for this occasion as the original is from the 1950's movie "Unchained" about an innocent man in prison longing to be home with his loved ones. Angelina thanked the amazing KORK Orchestra for trusting her to change the whole arrangement to suit her vision.
I love the way Ms. Jordan can transport us to the remembrances of the past, but let's not forget that this young living legend is a contemporary, a masterclass artist that is continuing to experiment with tune and technique to create a newness in music, that will dominate world music for decades to come. Rb
Chills, chills, and chills. On top of her flawless vocals, that full orchestra!! And then to discover there's more to the story! Isn't that always the case with AJ? Someone else will tell this story better but the song is from a movie about someone imprisoned. The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Narges Mohammadi who is imprisoned in Iran for standing up for women's rights. AJ's grandmother Mery is from Iran. She and AJ have no doubt had discussions on the injustice of Narges imprisonment. Narges children were also in the audience. For those who knew these facts while listening to this song, it had to have been deeply touching. Angelina handled it so delicately, not belting where it usually is, but treating it with the gentleness the occasion deserved. She always does legendary things.
This Orchestra is famous in norway and Scandinavia.Angelina has worhed with them several times before it makes this song more applicable to the cause of Narges Moha.mmadi.s need for love to help her complete her time in prison for helping women,s rights in Iran.Angelina,s grandmother was born in Iran so has a personal place in Angelina s heart to bring all the attention she can to help in any way!❤❤❤
Angelina Jordan 17 years old Recognized and admired by world-class musicians and composers (many Gramys) among them; Alan Walker, Chuck Berghofer, Gregg Field, Shelly Berg, Jimmy Z Zavala, Diane Warren, Rob Christie, Daivid Foster, Gene Simmons, Brian May and Roger Taylor, Quincy Jones, Norah Jones, Mark Ronson, Jonathan Moffet, Nico Cartosio, etc. . ...all of the above mentioned without exception consider her the best vocalist they have worked with or the best of all time. Her record label is currently the largest and most prestigious Republic Record Universal Music,
Hey you must know / be reminded that : 1. Angelina wished as a child to, one day, perform for the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony 2. As her grand mother is Iranian as well as Narges Mohammadi, the Nobel Peace Prize Recipient this strikes a special cord for her 3. As she always stands fo causes this is a very special one 4. As Narges's exiled twin Childs received the prize on her behalf while she's jailed in Iran the lyrics of the song takes another emotional dimension Very nice reaction as usual 😻!
To me this is the embodiment of Divine Grace in sound. My only analogy, would be, to the likes of Maria Callas, The stature, the elegance, the enrapturing beauty. We all are blessed with the privilege of witnessing this history of Ms. Jordan's transformative artistry. Rb
AJ grandmother is Iranian & her grandfather (Million Miles) is Japanese. Angelina is obviously otherworldly & boundless. Any yet she honours artists, songs, music & humanity. Way beyond generational.
Today the 10th January is our very special and amazing young lady's 18th birthday. May our Lord bless her with every wish she has for her future and keep you safe forever. Love her so much. ❤
I once heard a reactor confidently say she does not have range. We try to tell people you cannot judge her by a couple of songs. Yes Angelina has range power and versatility you just have to wait for the right song to hear it. Don't expect her to throw everything but the kitchen sink at a song. She has that Nordic self effacement. She is discriminating, above all she is the consumate artist. Its all about the music. She is a class act.
Daniel, thanks for your reaction to this stunning tribute, by Angelina Jordan, to this years recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, Narges Mohammadi. I thought "Unchained Melody" was a odd choice for this event, but have since learned the history of the song. More on that later. Certainly Angelina was thrilled to be performing back in her home country of Norway, where she is a national treasure, but this performance goes way beyond that honor. She first performed at the Save the Children event at the 2014 Peace Prize event, when she was 8 years old. Narges Mohammadi was this years' recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. Narges, is currently on a hunger strike while imprisoned in Iran, for being an activist for women's rights. Her two children spoke on her behalf at this event. Most of the performers were Iranian. We know Angelina's grandmother, Mery Zamani, grew up in Iran and was a prodigy for painting and poetry. We can imagine the conversations Mery had with Angelina about Narges. This performance had to be extremely meaningful to Angelina and her family. I hope all the angels will spread the story of Narges and her mission, with the hope for change. In 1954, Alex North was contracted to compose the score for the prison film Unchained (released in 1955). North had a melody he had written in the 1930s and composed and recorded the score when he was asked to write a song based upon the movie's theme. North asked Hy Zaret to write the lyrics. After first refusing, Zaret and North together wrote "Unchained Melody. Zaret refused the producer's request to include the word "unchained" in his lyrics. The song eventually became known as the "Unchained Melody" even though the song does not actually include the word "unchained". Instead, Zaret chose to focus on someone who pines for a lover he has not seen in a "long, lonely time". The film centered on a man who contemplates either escaping from prison to live life on the run or completing his sentence and returning to his wife and family. So indeed this song fits along with Narges being in prison and her two children, and the rest of the people who embrace freedom, calling for her release.

Angelina is from Norway and when she lived in Norway she very often sang with Kork Orchestra so they know one another very well. Also Angelina is the only person to ever have been invited to sing at Nobel Peace Prize twice. She sang when she was 8 for the Nobel Peace Prize for world Children's Organization. This Ppriize meant more to Angelina, Gran Mery and the rest of the family because Gran Mery was born Iran. I think that the Unchained Melody was a very fitting song because it goes back to the 1950's about a man who was jailed and "wrote" the song for his wife and family. The husband, twins a girl and boy were interviewed at Prize Giving, they now live in France. So sad, but then if know Angelina she is such precious and kind person. I am so proud of her I have been following her for a long time and sine Norway's Got Talent at 7/8. She has worked so hard from such a young age and deserves every blessing that comes her way. Blessings to you from a 77 year old gran from South Africa.
Angelina's performance was timeless, classy, thoughtful and meaningful. You can appreciate it even more when you know the context... Happy New Year and never stop experiencing the power of music 💕
To fully appreciate this performance, one needs to understand the background. Narges Mohammadi was this years' recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. Narges, is currently on a hunger strike while imprisoned in Iran, for being an activist for women's rights. Her two children spoke on her behalf at this event. Most of the performers were Iranian.
Thank you Arias I see the other angels have given you lots of info. She does elevate everything around her not just musically, she is my favourite artist ever no one is remotely close, she transcends even the music , this girl impacts peoples lives she is so loved but it is because she herself loves so deeply it goes beyond words it is a heart to heart connection with her and we feel it and she feels it . The openness and love in her family is also amazing they have shared her and themselves since she was very young so much has been recorded ,she has been filmed and photographed her whole life sung around the whole interviewed all when she was very young, nothing is set in stone but she has a path to walk and love attracts love and love will see to it that she achieves what her heart desires and we are intertwined with her and that also is about the renaissance of love which believe it or not the world is on the threshold of that.
Daniel, We fellow angels know how you feel. Those of us that are long time listeners of Angelina have exhausted our library of superlatives and accolades to explain what listening to God’s angel on earth means and does to us. IMO, it comes down to how completely and deeply Angelina touches our hearts and souls. She moves me in ways I didn’t think was possible just from listening to someone sing. I am completely addicted to Angelina’s voice. I greatly admire and respect the outstanding human being she is.
Thanks Daniel. This exquisitely , eloquent and Classy young lady right here is the true definition of a Master Vocalists, at 17 she is almost beyond comparison anymore...though folks will try. Cheers, Merry Christmas.
The context of this majestic rendition of "Unchained Melody" must be taken into account. This year's recipient of the prize is 51-year-old Iranian journalist Narges Mohammadi, currently imprisoned as she has been many times since 1998. Let's not forget that AJ's grandmother, Mery Zamani, is Iranian. You'd think she'd be concerned by her country of origin, and that the imprisonment of a woman as courageous as Narges Mohammadi does not leave her indifferent. The current condition of Iranian women is a very sensitive issue.
you made me smile, "this is one of the best performances of Angelina Jordan" I wonder if you are too young to know what a 'B' side was back in the day of vinyl? .... it'd be hard to figure which AJ songs would be on the 'B' side.
The famous Righteous Brothers version is, in fact, a cover. So it is possible to do a cover exquisitely. By the way, it is also easy to forget that Angelina turns 18 in about two weeks, so happy early birthday to a very old soul. Happy Holidays, Daniel.
Not even Bobby Hadfield's 'Gold Standard' for this song permeates my inner being with the emotion laden penetration Angelina delivers here. It is a fitting tribute to Narges Mohammadi, this year's recipient of 'The Nobel Peace Prize' who languishes in an Iranian prison for simply attempting to increase rights of women in Iran.
Here is the backstory of this Year's Nobel Peace Prize winner as well more context on Angelina's participation in the event - put together by fellow Angel, James Thiel: th-cam.com/video/T6iqTCPeIF4/w-d-xo.html
@@musicluvr70 Well, How did you like it ? I noticed you didn't leave a comment, however you did say you watched it twice, so I will assume you appreciated the "STORY". Other than that question, I have another Big Question - how did you like the ending ? Did Angelina narrating at the end derail your train for the perfectly flat and straight rails your were traveling on ? 😁😆😉 😇Jim
@@summaEngineer, Oh I absolutely loved it. I saved it in two of my playlists and I left it on a couple reactions so people would better understand why Angelina was singing the song. I may not have left a comment because all the others said everything I could have said. 🤷♂As for the ending, I thought it was a nice touch and it made me smile, but I haven't listened to her sing any song in the past 7+ years that I felt I was on 'flat and straight' rails. She has me on an emotional roller coaster with nearly every song. It seems I'm always wiping a tear from some type of emotion.
Angelina has performed twice at the Nobel "Peace" Prize award ceremony, held in Norway…at 8, and now at 17 ! (The other 4 Nobel Prizes are awarded in Sweden.) Angelina Jordan is the only Artist ever asked to perform Twice at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony. “Unchained Melody" All the artist performing were Iranian, showing solidarity, with Narges Mohammadi, the jaiiled Iranian Woman’s Activist. 😇 🌺Additionally, She performed her original, "Love Don't Let Me Go" AND notably, her Nobel P.P. performance 2014, at 8 ! th-cam.com/video/u-FKyXdZufc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=G6Fh165kM6Fw7Hri & BONUS "Summertime" UN Concert Kofi Annan, also 8 th-cam.com/video/GleSGKseUSM/w-d-xo.html 🏆 THE NOBEL PRIZE The Oslo Ceremony was streamed live to about 3 1/2 million people)
A barefoot princess with a hypnotic voice. As usual, a vocal master piece. Narges Mohammadi (Persian: نرگس محمدی; born 21 April 1972) is an Iranian human rights activist and Nobel laureate. She is the vice president of the Defenders of Human Rights Center (DHRC), headed by her fellow Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Mohammadi has been a vocal proponent of mass feminist civil disobedience against the hijab in Iran and a vocal critic of the hijab and chastity program of 2023. In May 2016, she was sentenced in Tehran to 16 years' imprisonment for establishing and running "a human rights movement that campaigns for the abolition of the death penalty. She was released in 2020 but sent back to prison in 2021, where she has since given reports of the abuse and solitary confinement of detained women. In October 2023, while in prison, she was awarded the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her fight to promote human rights and freedom for all. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran condemned the decision.
Thanks Daniel. This exquisitely , eloquent and Classy young lady right here is the true definition of a Master Vocalists, at 17 she is almost beyond comparison anymore...though folks will try. Cheers, Merry Christmas.
❤.
Great Reaction 👍🙏👣💯
you made me smile, "this is one of the best performances of Angelina Jordan"
I wonder if you are too young to know what a 'B' side was back in the day of vinyl?
.... it'd be hard to figure which AJ songs would be on the 'B' side.
Your great aries , but i wish the few reactors as you , would play to the very end and listen to the applause from the audience and the orchestra .
The famous Righteous Brothers version is, in fact, a cover. So it is possible to do a cover exquisitely. By the way, it is also easy to forget that Angelina turns 18 in about two weeks, so happy early birthday to a very old soul. Happy Holidays, Daniel.
Read my comments and you will realize what this was all about, you have just witnessed the greatest vocalist that has ever lived, Angelina Jordan.
❤❤❤❤❤💯💫👋👋👋

@@@@@This video is a masterpiece that I have watched more than 75 times. Every time I hear the KORK Orchestra begin playing, I feel a surge of emotion because I know what is coming next: the most amazing rendition of Unchained Melody by the incomparable Angelina Jordan. She has a voice of an angel and a talent beyond words.
Unchained Melody Nobel Peace Prize 2023 Some ask why Angelina Jordan would pick Unchained Melody for this event, Narges Mohammadi, the Iranian human rights activist who received the prestigious award remains in Iran. One of the most popular and enduring love songs of all time, Unchained Melody, has a surprising origin. It was composed for a 1955 film called Unchained, which tells the story of a man who is incarcerated for a crime he did not commit. He yearns to be free and reunite with his wife and children, who are waiting for him outside. The song captures his emotions of loneliness, hope and longing, and has been covered by many artists over the years, but none in my lifetime of 76 years have conveyed such emotion as Angelina Jordan did at this performance. © Larry D. 😇😇😇😇💖💖💖💖
Not even Bobby Hadfield's 'Gold Standard' for this song permeates my inner being
with the emotion laden penetration Angelina delivers here. It is a fitting tribute to
Narges Mohammadi, this year's recipient of 'The Nobel Peace Prize' who languishes
in an Iranian prison for simply attempting to increase rights of women in Iran.
@@@@@John Gary vs Angelina Jordan Unchained Melody
One of the most memorable experiences of my life was seeing John Gary perform live in Seattle, WA, when I was 20 years old. He had such a powerful and beautiful voice that filled the whole auditorium. During the break, he sat down on the edge of the stage and played his guitar, singing Unchained Melody with so much emotion and passion. It was a sublime moment that I shared with my wife, and I felt like we were the only ones in the room. At that time, I thought to myself; how could anyone top that performance, but 56 years later a 17-year-old Angelina Jordan just did.
Angelina Jordan's performance at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Norway in 2023 blew me away. She sang with such passion and emotion that I felt every word in my soul. She truly captured the essence of the song and made it her own. and she is only 17-year-old. I have never heard anything like it before, this genius never ceases to amaze me. © Larry D. Pifer
Angelina is the new Elvis without the drugs. It is time for Republic Records to release the "Kraken" on the world

Thanks for sharing this link. I missed it, but just made up for it by watching it twice in a row. 🙏
