If you are looking for stable builds I would just install Debian with your desktop environment of choice. If you are really looking to stay cutting edge then install Arch with your Desktop environment of choice. If you want to land somewhere in between then OpenSUSE Tumbleweed is the way to go, even if you are looking to game and do content creation. If you are making the transition from Windows and want something super similar than OpenSUSE with KDE Plasma desktop is the closest you will get.

i personaly use carli 12 which i built its pure arch ..so lego blocks needed to get diffrent stuff from different repos easy though
