Hello and welcome to 80/20’s product highlight series. Today we’re going to take a look at dynamic pivots. These pivots allow two bars to pivot and position at various angles. They’re easy to install, available in both fractional and metric, and compatible across a wide range of profile series. They require no machining and come preassembled. They can also come as individual components allowing you to customize your pivot. More information on 80/20’s dynamic pivot components can be found in the 80/20 product catalog.
Now before we get started it’s worth noting that dynamic pivots come in various styles and alignments. Such as zero degree which runs parallel with the bar, and ninety degree which runs perpendicular with the bar. Now for our example we are going to start with individual components and assemble a dynamic pivot ourselves. So we’ll grab one of our arms, take a washer and put it in the Tnut side. Take our nub, and we’ll line up that arm on the side of the nub. We’ll take a bolt, and feed it through, and we’ll just hand tighten that down. Go ahead and finish that off with our wrench, get that nice and snug.
Now once we have that tightened down, you can see we still have full range on our dynamic pivot. So we’ll go ahead and repeat the process on the other side. Grab our arm, put a washer on the Tnut side., and line it up over the side of the nub. Grab our bolt, and we’ll feed it right through into the threaded hole in the nub. Hand-tighten that down. We’ll grab our wrench, and finish it off. Now once you have all that together, we’re at the point where we match our preassembled dynamic pivot. So from here we’ll go ahead and install it onto our profile, we’ll loosen up the Tnut on the nub.
Now that we’ve got that loose, we’ll slide it right into the open Tslot. We’ll go ahead and find our position on there, and we’ll tighten that down. From there, to install our other bar. We’ll first need to loosen up the Tnuts and the bolts on our arms. So we’ll just get these loosened up. Once you have those loosened up, you’ll grab your other profile, and we’ll slide it right in between the arms. Now you want to make sure when you’re installing this that you don’t get your profile too close to your nub, you want a little bit of a gap. So we’ll grab our wrench and we’ll tighten the bolts back down.
Now once you have that tightened down you have a nice secure connection, but you still have fluid movement in your dynamic pivot. Now lastly we want to mention that dynamic pivots can come with brake handles. You simply loosen up your brake handle, move your profile into the desired location that you want and you can tighten that brake handle back down and it’ll hold it right into position for you.
Now hopefully you found this segment on dynamic pivots helpful, for more information, please visit 8020.net and be sure to subscribe to future 80/20 videos. And as always, make it a great day.

I have 2 sets of the 4317 90 degree pivot brackets working together to pivot two 24" long arms that are connected together with another arm at the end. They are binding quite a bit and the only thing that seems to help is to leave the three bolts holding on one of the 2 Pivot Brackets (4333 or 4337) loose. I have to leave the bolts loose on one of the Brackets on each side. Everything looks to be square and lined up well. Is there something else I need to do? Also it seems to bind a bit worse when the pivoting arm is parallel to the part the pivot bracket is mounted to.

I was looking around and noticed in similar situations other people were using a 4339 & 4348 instead of two 4317 assemblies. Similar to the drawing table in this video
      th-cam.com/video/DsQm3KN24VM/w-d-xo.html
I found if I removed one of the locking levers (2797) from each of the 4317 assemblies, it would then work fine.

Can the pivot hubs be tightened to a point where they are locked in at a certain angle without the brake handle?

    • @8020llc

Hi there! Thank you for your question. The brake handles are necessary for the proper utilization of dynamic pivots and securely locking them into place.

Hi, Harold. It depends on what you need a spring loaded stop for. We carry an adjustable spring loaded brake for holding a wheeled cart in place. You can find it here: catalogs.8020.net/80-20-Inc-Catalog-23/610/

I'm confused about how to mount the last dynamic pivot you showed. It look incorrect to me for some reason. When the profile is perpendicular to the other, I'd expect this pivot plate to allow the profile to be straight at the high point of the plate. Then rotate 90 degrees towards the low point of the plate. This other video shown here shows it mounting to the end of the profile to achieve this: th-cam.com/video/-SQdGczQnno/w-d-xo.html

+JLAW904 Thanks for the feedback JLAW. The installation method you mention would be a correct and more common method of using that specific dynamic pivot. As with most 80/20 products, our pivots can be used in a variety of ways to suit our customers’ varying requirements.

Do you offer any pivots that lock in at exact angles, such as 45° or 90°?

    • @8020llc
      @8020llc  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Depending on your exact needs, we have a few different products that may work. If you are looking for a hinge for panels, some of our Detent hinges will "lock" into varies positions. For profiles, we have pivots and plates that have movement range of 90 and 180 degrees that can lock into place using a brake kit. We have also seen customers that will have these plates custom machined with notches to ensure exact positioning at desired angles.

@@8020llc We're looking for a folding type design that locks at a 90 degree angle, would these products do that well? Or are we best looking elsewhere?
