Bricksie, since the tracks are not integrated into the set, how about making Brick Cross into a Downtown Bus Depot? The theming of the set would still work well as a Bus Depot/Transportation Center, and would fit into you city that way.
Great idea
This is a great idea
Yes! Really great!
Fill the empty baseplates, remove some roads, and actually place it next to the beach, then the beach, the zoo and downtown will have a beautiful new busstation
The back of the station with the yellow safety line could be where the busses pull up to load passengers.
Great idea!
8:46 Please don’t touch the beach! It’s perfect! Shifting the downtown core sounds like the best option. Also, the city needs a sports team. Hockey rink or soccer pitch over by the amusement park!
Whoever suggested converting into a bus station might be on to a really good idea.
My vote…leave the beach area and reshuffle the front of downtown area next to the beach
Yes, exactly!
I would suggest to reshuffle that downtown area in front of the beach. It seems there is unexpressed potential there. The beach is fully developed and I wouldn’t modify it now. It’s gorgeous
I agree!! I think this would look really good
Do not mess with the beach, it’s great the way it is.
Honestly, why do you need two train stations anyway. Replace the old station with the new one. It looks better.
I concur, really don’t like the look of the stud gate station. That cupola is just too big and makes the whole thing look out of proportion.
Cas city s an town s have more than one. Train station ..? My city in Melbourne has..the main station. Flinders Street station an southern Cross station plus all the station in the underground.😊 .so sure need more than one station. 😊
Agree yes don't put it near beach ..it's lovely the way it is hay. but city s have more than one station. Well my city has
I think keeping instructions is a must - but they can cut down on the size of them for sure. If you've built any sets from the 90s you'll find a lot more parts placed per page... now adays some sets feel like 1 piece per page :D
@@brickstarsofficial I totally agree! The sets I had as a kid would build an entire castle in maybe 40 steps
If they go digital give “beginner”, “intermediate” and “pro” instructions
What if the customer has no internet access not everyone can afford internet
100% Lego is a way to step back from electronics
Physical instructions are a must for me. Lego is a way for my family to break away from screens. It’s the primary reason we stopped buying any of the Mario sets!
I think it makes sense to have the new train station in the countryside because as of right now, the train just goes through the countryside. There are always train stops along the way. It also allows for a small town that has smaller buildings like a bank/post office, police station, and gas station. This would allow for the back of the set to be facing the mountain and line up with the train track without having to make major changes.
I agree with you. :)
Great call!
No need 2 trains stations, beach is perfect like this !
The down town core is the show off for lego modular buildings, the country side half of the city is where bricksie can show off his creativity.
The road loop around the boutique hotel seems unnecessary new layout in that area with less roads seems best, plus you get to use those roads in the winter village without buying more :) Then the train station can service that area which makes sense as its near a hotel and the beach and the zoo. The train station could service busses too easily enough with that much space in the area.
A small platform inside the amusement park should be sufficient, that could house a subway entrance for workers to get to the amusement park. Thus having all kinds of workers in costumes in the subway underneath going to work.
I also like the beach area as is, presenting well for the front of the city, I know its not finished but the area between the zoo and the back of the beach is looking a little neglected and detracts to the area you have created.
Loving the progress your making.
What about next to the zoo to the left and behind the beach? It’s space that’s currently mostly open and would make sense for people travelling to the beach, zoo and countryside alike
Yeah, if the turnaround for the zoo is a little bit smaller, that's not that big of a deal, and if the roads need reworked a little bit so that there is a bit more access to the countryside, I feel like that would be easier than changing that downtown core, and I love the look of the big boutique hotel. I feel like it deserves a spot up front that it might lose to a train station.
It looks like a smaller, more neighborhood station, so it would look great near the beach, zoo or residential area. But the beach it's perfect as it is!! maybe less water would be beneficial but the sand space is already small, and the building look great
Don't change the beach, I love the beach. The style of the building really belongs in the city and changing it to a bus station is a really good idea.
What if it was a decommissioned train station that was converted to a food hall or small shopping center. Then it could go anywhere in the downtown core. The backstory would be, there used to be a rail line here before the cars and roads were expanded.
I think shuffling where the hotel is makes sense for the station. Rejigging the beach seems like a lot of work and you have lots more f empty baseplates there like you say
Shuffle, make beach scene bigger. Or make beach scene buildings go in a u-shape and put train station where diner is. Put diner in green space in the green space across from the other smaller restaurant stands and add parking in the green space next to it.
I think you should leave the beach alone. If you decide to leave it as a train station, it would work perfectly and you could move those buildings in the spot across from the beach to the open spots in the downtown core as you were talking about. One idea I had was sticking it next to the Ninjago city area since you did briefly talked about making a raised train line around the mountain when you start on it, but I am not all that sure how well that will work
Put the train station in the do down town core. You could move the hospital back and put it there beside Hospital you would have to put the train station sideways..😊 have fun.
Lego should not stop paper instructions
I agree. I don't have a smartphone and I don't want to spend £70 per month just to read Lego instructions.
I haven’t used the instruction for my sets in years. I definitely prefer using my tablet because I can move the sets on tablet to see different angles during construction. For your city, maybe cut down on the country side by maybe 1/3 and use for more city buildings. Thanks for the vids!
Can’t this be modified into the subway station for the downtown area? You can remove the train track area and create stairway and elevator entrances that lead to tracks below. Entire stairways don’t need to be built, just the entrances to them and steps as far as the bottom of the MILS will allow.
Train stations usually have subway connections as well.
I like the idea of it in front of the zoo. Move the train tracks back, pull the road forward. Just my opinion, I trust you will find the perfect location. You always come up with the best solutions when you have a problem to overcome
I think keeping the beach as is and shuffle that downtown corner.
I think that would look much better then shuffle the beach.
or another option is mooving the harbor around the corner, move the train yard a bit more into the country side. make the country side a little bit smaller, move the beach as is more towards the corner of the table and so you do free up some space for the new station. My opinion :D
Love your vids btw :D first comment ever on your channel.
Jordan. It makes more sense to move the downtown area around, rather than the beach. You said so yourself, yo have more downtown area you've created for the other buildings making it an easier option to moving the whole beach area around.
I'd move the hospital somewhere quiet, far away from the city noise, beach, train yard etc. That way you'll have enough space for this new set.
Jordan hitting us with the “Yo!” introduction the last few times! Makes a Philly guy feel at home.
I'd suggest to change the area between the beach and the zoo and place trainstation over there (where the bus is standing) facing the beach. I think remove the big road behind the beach and create a pedestrian area and add some smaller modular buildings/shops around it. Move train track more towards the zoo if needed and add pedestrian railcrossing towards zoo. Connect remaining road to the harbour. Possibly remove gravelroad connection completely in this area as it is not really matching harbour and railway area.
Don't re-shuffle the beach! That area is done, it doesn't need tweaking. Reshuffle the downtown area
totally changing directions, you mentioned cladding the air duct with base plates, I think that would be a good place for all the name bricks you have. Glued baseplate on top with a one stud overhang then build down from there.
Would putting in the subway be an option? Great looking set
I would change the downtown instead of the beach to accommodate the new train station. The bus depot CFAcreate suggested is also a good one! I definitely feel like it will work best in the downtown proper
There is the road behind the board walk next to the beech that you probably don't need as there are other road connections around there. Perhaps reconfiguring that would work. I don't think taking out instructions is a good idea - not everyone has access to the internet at home and they wouldn't be able to build the set without them - having instructions backed up online is one thing, but they need to be with sets. If you run out of space, please consider making the train yard smaller because other areas of the city have a lot of interesting building techniques and that area doesn't - most of it is just open space with track.
Here's an option you don't want to hear: replace the old train station (use somewhere around amusement park, where it's style may look cool.). Use the new train station in its place.
Also, Lego should keep the paper manuals. Lego is one indoor hobby where I don't need a screen!
They will probably delete the manuals, make us use an app, and then raise the price.
Easiest option: move the road by the beach where the red sightseeing bus is, put the station there
Perhaps consider not having everything always in your city 🤷♂️😊 It is ok that you don't have to adapt all the time to anything published by LEGO 😃
Changing from printed to digital instructions: Please no!
I like the countryside, that's the most interesting part to me
The best place I think for the train station is currently where that open top bus is and reshuffling parts of the downtown core. However I have seen people saying making it a bus depot and you mentioned it. I think it could work really well for the current layout! I wouldn’t change the beach as it looks great and is a perfect size! Can’t wait to see what you do with it!
Absolutely not! Hard copies of the manual are essential for long term value and use. Just like books, there should always be hard copies. How much of history will be lost because people no longer print photos? Going all digital is lazy and greedy. A manual is a sign of quality.
Since you are thinking of big changes, how about the X-mansion? You could place it elevated near one of the access holes and have the X-jet in a hangar below it inside the hill. You could have a nice diorama visible and not have to worry about filling in that area with a cliff side, etc. Love your channel, and best wishes.
It's a subway station then
I don’t think instructions should be digital. My children wouldn’t like that at all
noooo i love the paper instructions
I would like to see more A-frame cabins added to the countryside to give it more of a cabin camping feeling. Maybe 2 or 3 more would definitely help fill up some space. Plus, you could add a small mountain that could be used for year-round skiing.
Having a station facing the hotel makes perfect sense. Today I really enjoyed the different views of the city as well - thanks
Might be a good idea to rethink the winter village a little. Train station at the bottom of the hill. Run a cable car up to the village which could be more of a resort in the mountain as opposed to a town with roads. Just walkways would suffice. If there isn’t a road running up to the village, how did the village road get there?
I was thinking of building a Lego city too but only have like one shelf. Now hearing Jordan having issues with placing a new train station and looking at the amount of custom table he has.. I'm happy I didn't start yet.
Building a nice looking lego city takes so much space.. It looks super cool but I feel you could do so much more with that space. As just a Lego enjoyer.
Keep up the building! 😄
I would just either remove the 1 train station and replace it or leave this one out. You can always swap to the other one. I feel the best thing is to stick to the plan and not change stuff because something else released.
I'm skipping the Botanical set as it would never fit my space or it would consume too much space to look decent.
I think it would look really nice in a winter village. Add some snow to the sidewalk and roof. I just don’t know if it’s too big for your current temporary winter village. But if it is just temporary and will be changing later, maybe better to work it into that area for now instead of pulling apart other sections of the city.
Don't move the beach area, I'd say move the hotel and jazz club and redo the road layout like you suggested. Secondly, the countryside is a thing that you do not see much in people's city builds. You can totally get some farming builds in there and other urban elements, and as you stated a campground or cabins or the such. Lego do make tents! Item 38975 is one good example! I want to have a campground area when I make a city with RVs, tents and a wash house. I think you should keep that element in your city, it makes it different and I like that.
I think one thing Lego could do is offer opting out of instructions as a discount of a dollar or so. They will save plenty on the manual and the extra weight in shipping, and those that want the instruction manual for their reasons (all valid) can still get the manual without feeling like it’s an up charge. I personally would opt out for most sets. It would be hard to handle at third party stores however. This is really only a solution for Lego direct.
Bricksie, see if Brick Cross looks good when put against Studguard station.
If so, get more of the later, so that by relocation the railway crossing, would let you to create a bigger main station.
Then Brick Coss can become the main entrance of said big station.
As for your disney station your haunted/spooky mansion has a open back as well, so see if putting them back to back, would solve that problem.
Would give your amusement park, it's own station.
Just remember to give both stations, proper length platform, so the trains can actually stop at the platforms.
You got the room
I would recommend using just the station itself and use it as an entrance to your subway station. In the UK, you'll find lots of buildings like that that are Entrances/Exits for the Underground
I know you addressed it somewhat Bricksie and I love that you are open to doing so many things in your city and am doing so many cool things in it :D
But perhaps you are wanting to many different areas/zones across your main table? Don't get me wrong it's amazing that you have all these fantastic plans and ideas and I love it, but perhaps some of those would be better suited to not go onto the main table and instead perhaps build onto a diorama table on it's own? Things might risk looking a little cluttered between the various districts/areas if you don't give them a little space to breathe in.
Anywhos I am sure you will figure out a very cool solution and I look forward to seeing more of this cool city
one idea could be removing the road next to the boutique hotel and assembly square and making it a smaller pedestrian street and also making the road between the hospital and the hotel narrower to fit the station facing the hotel
As for a digital device for the studio, why not have a Chromebook... it can be very portable, and have a larger display.
It can be in laptop mode or in tablet mode. This can allow for the different uses you would need within the studio.
I suggest placing the new station in front of the front-most left standing hole. You could replace or move the dirt road currently there, it would make sense to have a station servicing the zoo and near the dt core. 😊
I like the idea of reshuffling the area around the boutique hotel and placing it against the train track opposite the beach area
Could you move the hotel to be a water front hotel and have the station in its place?
1:55
We're gonna build that at home, tonight
- Continues to build it at the studio...
❤
Definitely move the modulars, not the beach-end... make a corner around the new station with the road, leaves an empty square in front of your station for lots of detail's.... and a nicer straight track for your trains when halted at your station! Great project man, how do you finance this?? Greetings from Holland
Definitely need to keep Paper Instructions.
Accessing the Internet will never be at 100%.
Paper Instructions will always be needed.
I think the bus station idea is good or turn it into a nice restaurant or something else as cities tend to change like yours and this can be a nod to that idea and they often repurpose buildings.
I think it would work great next to the hospital. It would save you a lot of work and you can focus on one of your other many projects.
Keep up the great work.
Just remove the turning circle in front of the zoo and extend the road a little bit further before it makes a turn. And rotate the diner 180 degrees for the parking lot to be accesible from the right side with a rail crossing. Gives you plenty of space to place the train station along the rail behind the beachfront houses.
Just an idea. I like the idea of putting it near the beach because it far away from the other station and would serve the beach and zoo. You have a road that is next to skate park. Why not remove the road that goes parallel with the beach. You could keep the road that goes from the dinner towards the zoo. And you could link the road from the harbor across the train tracks towards where the gravel road starts. it seems like there 3-4 base plates of road that could be gotten rid of by just changing the road layout a bit. Then you could put the station (facing the camera) with the tracks behind it. It's close to the beach and zoo and would make sense.
This change wouldn’t require a ton of reshuffling either. Please don’t reshuffle the beach or downtown. It’s finally looking amazing. The spot I’m talking about is the road where that yellow bus is sitting next to the skate park.
Definitely keep the country site! Put the skatepark next to the park and farmers market. I would put it somewhere where the food trucks are or where the gravel path starts, somewhere near the zoo and the area you thought of too.
Do not move the beach, either since you talked about possibly having the trains go from the subway to the upper level, could you place it in the middle where you saw that happening, or move the jazz club to the open plate and redo the roads to better incorporate the slant road and the new train station, additionally why don't you have an airport most modern cities do?
Putting the Brick Cross where the red double decker tour bus is (near beach) would best incorporate it with the city. I like what others have said of including a subway elevator would connect the subway with the beach/downtown well.
Elevated railway in the works! that new station could be perfect starting point for it on an upper level
What about moving the older station to the mountain residential area? If not I like the idea of reconfiguring the buildings near the beach. In the end it is your layout, do what makes you happy!
It would be kind cool if you put some snow on the roof of the train station and used it as a transition from the green of the mountain/countryside to the snow of the winter village area, also the winter village would be a heavy tourist area with the ski slopes etc makes sense there would be a train station in that area
Behind the diner. Between the diner and ZOO is an empty corner. That would be perfect for the new train station. And you are able to see the front from a great angle (left)
Maybe put the studgate station over by the beach? And the new station where the old station is.
I'm definitely on board of leaving the beach area alone and adjusting the modulars on the other side of the train track where you already have space freed up
Save it for access to the mountains, or the county side. Sort of how Penn stations work on the east coast of America, where they serve to connect major cities and their outskirts (i.e. a transition point).
8:01 San Diego's Santa Fe Depot is right near the waterfront. Like Brickcross it is a Beautiful Station!
Switch the stations in your idea. Makes it easier and more realistic. Your "old" station fits more to the beach.
I like the idea of a beach train station personally, but I agree this set feels a bit too big for that area.
Since you’re looking for input in the comments, I would suggest converting this station to a bus depot/station, and building your own Moc for a smaller platform station on the beach that doesn’t require much shuffling.
That would allow you to display this beautiful set, add a train station where it makes sense, and not demolish months of work. And the bonus, we get to see your creativity in action when you build your own train platform station with a beachy vibe
Finish the road at the carpark and just replace the skatepark with the train station. Then you have a train for the beach and the zoo, it can be the end of line stop before the train yard.
Hey man i just finished watching your city videos, everyone since you moved from you new place. I suggest raising your downtown a bit. To the level of the train, i think that don't really make sense having the buildings almost at same height of the canal. And them you can put your new station next to the bridge.
I also like your beach option.
I build with the instructions on my iPad mini whenever I can, it's the perfect size and it doesn't take up too much room. I know a lot of people. don't want paper instructions to go away but I wouldn't mind it 99% of the time.
05:03 and that is why i do like paper instruction better
07:21 i found that station more by the nature side where you have more room for making intressting ideas or je you put some snow details and place near the winter village (lower place) for figures to the wintervillage.
dude.. lego would be taking a massive L if they switched to only online instructions. They'd screw over so many customers.. I doubt that would ever actually happen. They would lose too much money
Talking about the map, how cool would it be to print your city layout to a tile? Instead you could add colours for the different area's so it won't be outdated if you change a modular building.
That's great! What a good problem to have, I think moving the beach about and skate park as it needs a little bit of work and updating anyway :)
I feel like it has beach feel to it. It would look good as a station for your beach area. Good choice
Suggestion: the new one near the breach but close to the zoo and the amusement park one along the back of the park to push it as far from the studgate station as possible. Pop the skatepark up into the residential area
I was thinking maybe you can put near the beach. You could maybe move the T intersection to the left and temporarily removing the diner & parking it will free up some space at least the train station could be facing forward.
Put both stations together. The current one isn’t much of a station. Is just where you board the trains. The new one is the actual station. I vote next to each other. You’ve got plenty of room down by the existing station and this way it can face out and be seen!
I think you need to mesh that train station with the other similar station you have somehow, making an extra long translation! Real city stations are always huge!
Personally, I am not in favor of the dematerialization of notices because on PC, many colors are wrong on the screen and we confuse with others.
When the colors are too dark, it is also difficult to distinguish them and it is painfully.
Otherwise, I love this station even if it is not my thing but in double, it will be huge and for my part, I would add the one you have already installed as access to the tracks as we can see in the Parisian stations. I would even make them the starting point of my trains
One possible thought - rather than puting it against a train track you could give it the Musee d'Orsay treatment. Have it be a former train station that's now a museum. (Basically pretend it used to have a track that's since been torn up and the beautiful building repurposed)
It would be interesting and good looking if you merge the two train stations. The dimensions for one large central station would work in your huge city
2:55 that definitely looks hard trying to use the digital instructions with your phone. I didn't understand the point of digital instructions until I started building sets in front of my computer and it actually make its easier and faster to build sets.
It looks amazing although I don't know where you will place it because you have already have a train station.
I would definitely have the new station in the heart of the downtown.. and the one already in the city as a smaller station at the beach or in the residential area.. the new station is too good to leave out 👍🏻
I love the countryside. How about reducing the Studgate station back to its original size and putting the new station there? In its original size maybe you’d have more flexibility.
Would love to see you devote some of the countryside into a bigger airport with a station and bus station etc
I think a good place for the new train station would be in the amusement park. That way the minifigs can access the park via road and train 😊
I would not like them getting rid of the paper instructions. We dont let my son use a tablet so I dont want to start going that route.
you could always build two cities with countryside in the middle and have a station in each one. you have the space and would be cool to have two different themes, maybe modern and victorian cities
