Another A+ review. Example why? The bonus section contrasting this amp with the NAD is so useful as a buying guide that every other reviewer on youtube could learn from it. This is what audio equipment reviews should do imho, and short of providing detailed measurements too, this is as good as it gets folks.
Thanks for the support, Michael. Drawing up direct comparisons isn't always possible, particularly in a video format where people *demand* to see what I'm talking about. I'm lucky to have the NAD still hanging around so I could feature it in the vid.
I bought the SA3, but ended up getting the Emotiva Basx A2 amp. I wanted the power of the Emotiva and the flexibility from SA3. Also bought the NP3 from Iota. Paired these up with the Triangle BR03 speakers and Fluance RT85 and U-Turn tables. Makes for a killer set up in my room. I get lost and spend hours in there listing to my records. Keep up these vids, you're killing it!
I live in Lancashire, UK, less than 100 miles from Iota Enterprises, but had never heard of them until I read your rave review earlier this month. After some enquiries, I decided to purchase their SA3 Integrated amp and am delighted with the sound quality from such a modest piece of equipment. But it gets better. Today, I checked out the Tone Control and was surprised and pleased at how well it works to correct Room Acoustic problems, and it is so easy to use. In fact, it works as well as my TacT Room Correction preamp that cost some 3 to 4000 GB Pounds! To have this capability in a £399 Integrated amp is absolutely amazing. As a consequence, I am contemplating the purchase of the optional PA3 power amp to get a further improvement in sound quality. IOTA Enterprises deserves every success with products like this. Well done to them.
Sean, as an update on this IOTA SA3 Integrated Amp, now owned for 11 months. As soon as I received it and plugged in the speakers , it was noticed that 2 of the speaker connections were "loose". I called IOTA, Tech Support walked me through opening the "hood" which I rerally don't familiarity with, found that the fittings on 2 speaker connections were loose. I tighened them very carefully and was good from there. Now, this week, while playing Streamed music via BT, I noticed a scratchy sound. Thought it was bad BT signal, so I played the same signal on another system - no such problem. Switched the speakers to see if it was the speaker (the problem was prominant on the Left Channel, but heard on bother channels). Not the speakers and agter switching the speakers , the entire left channel was out. I shut the unit off. Restarted it 1 hour later, the sound returned played clearly for a short while and then got scratchy again. Now the left channel is out & done. I emailed IOTA , and waiting to see what they advise. I will tell you, this doesn't bode well for this SA3 cause sad disappointment.
Hi Sean, I Just purchased the SA3, PA3 Stack, and the Bluetooth dongle based on your (and others - to a lesser degree) recommendation. I think it's a great value and a good place to start as I begin my audiophile journey. I also subscribed to your channel. I wholeheartedly agree with your honest and practical approach to audio. There's room for everyone in this hobby and audiophiles that look down their noses on other's choices and opinions take the joy and excitement out of any learning experience. Keep up the good work and thank you for the hard work you do. - That's right people running a channel ain't easy.
I pulled the trigger on the SA3/PA3 combo and have never looked back. One of the smartest decisions I have ever made in my pursuit of great sound at prices I can afford. I did the SA3 first, then after deciding on some new speakers (87DB @8ohms, close out special from GR Research) I snagged the PA3. Speaker cables from Blue Jean Cables, and the Audiolab 6000CDT. The SA3 has a great DAC which saves on some money, AND contributes to great audio. I also recommend the Bluetooth Dongle. It opens up music/movies on the internet. Ian, at IOTA is a straight up solid dude who cares about his customers. My units arrived in 3 days from the UK, packaged more adequately than necessary, which shows great care. I have reached the end of my pursuit. I listen for hours every day!
I just wanted to say, I've been watching your videos for a while now and I've learned so much about audio gear and the industry in that time. I like how you talk about sound and the pleasure of it rather than just pure measurements.I bought the SA3 on the strength of your 3 reviews (and a few other TH-camrs too!). I have to say I'm stunned by how good it is. Your assessment of it is bang on the money. I was going to play it safe with an Onkyo/Marantz/Cambridge, but I'm glad I didn't and I went for something left field like the SA3. Thank you so much - please keep on doing what you do. Now, if I can only sneak it past the wife, I'll add the PA3. Cheers Sean!
Yep. I like the unique aesthetic as well. I also agree that using an LED around the power buttom (and the volume knob) makes for a great aesthetic touch.
Zero Fidelity I think it will be a good combo with Klipsch Heritage line. I will give them a go when I get a pair of Cornwalls! Hey Sean also try to review KEF R3/R300 if you can. I liked them when I had them but would love to hear what you think.
You have conducted an excellent balanced and enjoyable review of this product, free of hyperbole and bad language, this is the first time Ive watched one of your reviews it will not be the last. An excellent video
Shawn, I purchased both the SA3 & the PA3, along with the BUCHARDT S400's, it should rock my Vinyl .... using my NEW Yamaha PF800, (Never Opened) which I purchased in 1986! IOTA has so many orders for the SA3, you have about a 3 week wait! The CEO IAN, is really a great guy, and this isn''t his 1st rodeo ... he knows his Audio and that's the Botton line. You SAVE 45-60% Ordering wright from the Manufacture, NO Distributors or Retail Mark up BUYING wright from the Factory.... Hell of a Deal.... Both IOTA & Buchardt operate there SALES in the same manner. You can't be those SAVING !
I'm really wanting to purchase this product too. Did you like yours ? Do u still have it. What did you think of the sound and power and any comparisons to other receivers and amps. Thanks
@@IamVintage72 I really enjoy this unit. The sound clarity and reproduction sounds way better than my AV receiver. It is hard to put it into words really, but the experience was worth every penny. I use the UB 52 as my front channels, powered by the SA3. My other UB52 center channel and UB51 surrounds are running on my AV receiver. I purchased the PA3 unit late January and it still hasn't shipped from IOTAVX. I question the stability and organization of this company, nothing should take 3 weeks to prepare for shipment, even internationally. But yes, short answer, I would buy it again. It sounds amazing, for the price.
Interesting. Once you popped the hood, I was impressed. It looks like nice build quality. Good review as usual. My next project is my 200 watt per channel power amplifier in a defunct Mitsubishi chassis. My (somewhat oversized) bookshelf speakers are nearing completion. Now that I'm mostly retired, I can do tech work for myself.
Seriously this became yours reference for 500 that tells me a whole lot more than you're fantastic review looking forward for that second amp Edition PS love the bonus video at the end.. please keep up these great reviews especially would mid-priced or budget equipment that's what most of us are going to have
For now, the bulk of my reviews will be focused mostly on affordable gear. Particularly gear below 5k. Having said that, I fully plan on covering higher end gear as well, as that was once my playground and to be honest - I kinda miss it. :)
Zero Fidelity just my opinion: I think a lot of people are searching more and more for the diamonds in the lesser known audio world that have real value. E.G. tekton, Buchardt, dayens?, etc. As you well know, the markup on mainstream hifi is startling, so buying equipment from smaller, maybe newer, companies is attractive. If tekton decided to start selling in retailers, the double impacts would cost over double what they do now. They’d still be good for that price, but people wouldn’t marvel over them like they currently do.
Sean, Love your reviews and appreciate your excellent product reviews.. Old time passion and recently decided now empty nesters to get back to my passion. Love the story of the company and really like true pure sound that hasn’t been enhanced.. I ordered and received a personal note from Ian.. Can’t wait to receive and add to my setup.. It’s been crazy figuring speakers old days had great speakers from Kef 105’s to Magnagan 1600’s.. Going Bookself’s this time around.. William
With that profile and price, I figured it would definitely be another chip amp. Surprise, surprise, a real amp with a real power supply. Kudos to IOTA.
Hey Sean, enjoying this with my BR03 so much! Thanks again. A quick experiment for you. As the IOTAVX does not have USB I stream Amazon Music HD from my phone or Mac through the Bluetooth which actually is 24 bit aptx. I have to admit sounds fantastic. I think you have a couple of budget prised DACs, like the schiit modi. Might be intersting to compare sound quality between Bluetooth and connecting the laptop or phone to a cheap DAC as source to the IOTAVX
You got me to buy one of those, i'm extremely happy with it! Came from a second hand Denon pma720 that passed away.. But this Iota is much more precise, i finally get to hear clean and wide soundstage, 45w is totally enough for driving my good old Bronze 2 with ease... Very fast delivery from the website up to here in France, and perfect secure package. Big up Zero Fidelity
So, I must have watched this video review three or four times and I've just ordered mine! I live in the UK so it'll be with me in a day or two. It'll replace my trusty old (and much loved) Rotel RA-930AX integrated amp.
Sean. Over on the customer reviews section of their Web site, you get some very positive shouts because of your review. So much so that based upon your review and others I'm going to see if I can borrow one to have a listen in my second system. 45w@8 ohms is perfect for my reading room/library. Will feedback soon.
Yeah, this is UK based company. They sell there products here in Germany direct. They have a 7 channel home cinema amp @ 120wpc at 8 ohms and 170wpc at 4 ohms. I've been reading all the reviews on the 7 channel amp and the guys here in Europe love it! I'm thinking about looking into it myself? To run through my Pioneer receiver? The amp sells for 1,199 Euros!
They have a 7.1 pre-amp/processor to match that 7 channel amp, too. Might be worth just considering a total system replacement and letting someone else take over the Pioneer.
Sean, Another update and observation after some tinkering. My IOTA SA3 is connected running in unison with the PA3 AMP which is also connected with the PA3's preout to a Emotiva A300 Amp. My Denon DRA-800H Receiver has a Zone 2 Preout connection. That is connected to the SA3 , which allows me control of the Zone 2 Volume and also allows me to Adjust Bass / Treble controls to the speakers connected to this part of my system. What I learned yesterday with some experimentation, was the ZONE 2 master volume on the Denon was set too high !! It appraently was feeding too much power to the SA3. When I lowered the Master volume in the Denon's setup menu to a lesser level, the speakers connected to the PA3 Amp were clear , and not Raspy / Fuzzy as I posted yesterday. However, the Left Channel on gthe SA3 (the Integrated Amp), is not functioning. I had not realized that I had the ZONE 2 master volume - and thus the output set at the maximum level which I may have altered last week or so and set it the Max. When I connected the Denon's ZONE 2 preout directly into the Emotiva A300 amp inputs, with the ZONE 2 Volume preset at the MAX (98) it nearly Blew the Roof off the house. That direct connection to the Emotiva does NOT allow for Volume controls on the AMP - there are none. A Miracle that didn't Blow up the Speakers. I then reset the ZONE 2 volume down and reconnected as described above, the fuzziness in the speakers was gone... Too Much Power . I post this as an experience in Stereo !!
Hi Shawn. You along with Steve, Paul, Ron and a host of others have done a great job in re-engaging us older audiophiles (music and component lovers). Thanks for all the hard work you put into your videos. I have a question that I think you can help me with on whether I should consider "upgrading" to the iota. I'm mostly a vinyl and cd listener. I run a Schiit Saga pre into my NAD C370 and use it with the tube buffer and vintage tube. With this combo my NAD is now sweet and spacious, sounding more high-end. My speakers are 87db Philharmonitors (older version) which love power, so this is a great match. Since you have experience with the C370, will a change to the iota be worthy or should I stay put? I get bit by the upgrade bug watching all the cool videos out there. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Thank you for introducing IOTAVX to us. I am looking for an amp around $1000 USD that can do justice to that wide soundstage of Buchardt S400. I was considering replacing my Emotiva A-100 with a used Parasound A23, but now I will wait for your review of the IOTAVX integrated+power amp combo.
Hey Guy. You and me both :) S400's are badass speakers. They scale up pretty well with up-level equipment, so matching them to the right amp under $1000 USD can be a challenge. Parasound ZM2350 is an interesting choice - plenty of class-D power to bring out that soundstage. Not sure about the A23 though.
@@laugri I own S400 and have looked for a power-amp a while back. S400 do benefit from more power and scale with better equipment. Parasound ZM2350 is a good option, though a bit too warm for my taste. If you can find a used Parasound A21 for ~$1300 USD - Match made in heaven!
@@carmelrapoport9415 Thanks for the input. I think that's off limit for my budget :/ I was thinking about getting a Yamaha A-S801/S701 or a Nad 368. What do you think?
@@laugri I'm not familiar with these products, so don't know. But talking about cheap and good, Crown XLS comes to mind. It's a very powerful class D and not what I would consider an audiophile targeted amp, but certainty good enough to drive S400 to a very pleasurable listening experience.
I apologize for the annoying ass blur from 0:51 to 3:33. My camera was giving me a ton of grief. After spending well over an hour repeating myself over and over again, manual focus be damned, I finally said eff it and moved on. Ah well. That's why this is Zero Fidelity!
I just received a pair of Elac 2.0 UB52's. I believe this would be a good pairing, would you agree. I listen to classic rock/blues, jazz and occasionally some classical/soundtracks
Thank you for this review Sean. For almost 20 years I had the latest model of Nakamichi audio system CD-10 Cd player ,RE-10 Amp and DR-10 Cassette player. recently switched to Cambridge Audio . I did not know at all that this brand has anything to do with Nakamichi. At that time Nakamichi was one of the best and most sound and for years I enjoyed it`s sound. Now I am really curious to hear the sound of this brand, although it is very difficult to find it in my country. good luck.
Thanks a lot for the review. One question - sound quality this amp compared to emotiva A300 (A150)? Nowadays, it's strange that this kind of company decided to use wolfson DAC instead of new more modern ones )
Sean, in support of your recommendation concerning the IOTA SA3. Yes it is a Bad Ass..... Just got it, connected the BT dongle that I ordered together , connected same to my Elac Debut 6.2s , playing Spotify.... or Pandora, Holy Sh*t.... Whatta nice combo. Terrific Clarity, terrific soundstage .... And a I also have Elac Reference speakers - I didn't try yet. Bottom line use of the SA3 for me was to connect as my Zone 2 Amp to my Denon to play in another room. The only thing I need to be careful is to NOT turn on the Denon because that unit is connected to the same Elac Debuts as the A Speaker (the Elac References are the B speakers).
IOTA means *small amount* thus it's a good name seeing as it's a small price for a great Amp, I think that's the idea behind the name. And I think it's a memorable name, which is the key to marketing.
Way to go Sean, this is a great catch, and in Europe it seems priced even more competitively. This is one of the greatest beauty of this hobby to find unreal sounding components at bargain prices. I also never heard of this copany before =:-o
Awesome review, great effort 10/10. I came across this company a few months back when a friend of mine got sent a power amp for review and everytime I saw him, I noticed he hadn't sent the amp back to the company, 6 months passed and I said.. "Dude whats the deal?" he said... "I've tried every amp of the same price and many costing 4-5 times more and the Iota outperforms everything I've put in front of it and by a big margin. The bottom line is I'm keeping it in my studio and it's now my new go to reference I use to compare the competition.
I have the amp for a few days now, and all i can say, what a great sounding amplifier. Forget Cambridge cxa60, forget Rotel a12 (pre owned), this is a great piece!
Just picked this up with a pair of svs ultra bookshelves. I'm hoping it will be a magical pairing for my start into the home theater/HiFi world. Thanks for the introduction to iota!
@@Devilsplaylist so far so good for me, drives them to pretty insane volumes in my fairly small apartment. I have found that the ultras tend to chuff a little bit at some higher volumes with tracks that have tons of low end. But, I splurged and pulled in a sub from svs and haven't had any issues so far. They sound incredible, image really really well and can fill a small room at -30ish db on the amp. The sound signature is fairly u shaped since both the ultras and this amp have the sameish sound signature, like what zero fidelity points out in his videos. So if that's what you're looking for, go for it! I've been incredibly impressed.
I know this comment sounds pretty harsh, but I want to make sure you know what you're going to get. I love them and plan on holding onto them for a long time. But there are a few things I wasn't anticipating, probably more due to my lack of experience in the HiFi world than anything in particular with this system
Hello. I really like your review. The way you state this product will do this and then you do not try to justify it. Most will do that in a sort of way to promote the item. Great job.
Thanks for the review good job! I think I found a replacement for my 35 year old worn out HK. You should mention that blue tooth is available for this amp with an adapter that they sell. I have one in the shopping cart ready to purchase but I am doing further research before I pull the trigger.
True. I actually mentioned Bluetooth throughout the dozens of takes I made while trying to get my camera to f***ng focus. By the time I said 'screw it', I totally forgot about AptX. :D
I have emailed this company three times trying to find out what the dac inside is capable of 24/192 ? They've never responded to me which makes me very weary of buying this amp.
I have a older Denon DVD -2910. I love it because it plays HDCD, SACD as well as regular CDs, I dont use it for watching DVDs anymore. Its presently hooked up to a Denon AVR 1603. I presently have them connected with an optical audio cable. Im only using the system as a 2 channel stereo, not 5.1. Would it sound better using the analog RCA jacks? Am I losing the HDCD sound by using the optical audio connection? I noticed alot of high end amps don't even have digital inputs. I also just ordered this IOTAVX SA3. Would I use the analog or digital cables to hook up my DVD player to it??
Zero Fidelity I really enjoy your reviews! Thanks for the quick response. And the show you’re talking about it, Axpona in Chicago right. I have some friends going to it. Make sure you tell Sean Casey at ZU that Jeff Adams says hi. The red, white and blue ZU room guy. He’ll know who I am. :) But I have been SERIOUSLY looking at a nice integrated class a/b amp that can put out some power and that had a Wolfson DAC. I just ordered a pair of Magnepan LRS’s. So this might be a really good match.
Zero Fidelity Oh and when you mentioned Nakamichi, it brought a big smile to my face. I used to own a bunch of Nakamichi gear in both the home and car audio world. In fact one of my last serious car audio competition systems, the head unit was a Nakamichi. So I have no doubt that IOTA is of good quality.
Hi Shawn, I have followed several of your videos, especially about amplifiers. I am searching for a match to my Nubert speakers,. I found either the IOTAVX or the XYZ edge interesting. First question: which one would you give priority? Second question: would the saga preamp be a good partner for the XYC? Third question: what solution as a streamer? My music is very diverse, rock, jazz, classical, therefore I was searching a neutral chain. Regards from Germany
After watching the reviews I instantly ordered the Iotavx sa3 for my Monitor Audio Studios and I cant agree on the review more. I don’t think you can get a more neutral sound for that money out of a lot od stereo receivers. And for my studios it has easily enough power... no need for a pa3 at all. Crisp clear bass, not too much just the right amount. Love it and won’t exchange it back with my marantz.
Holy shit Batman! That was a rave review. There are no better words in audio than "Badass affordable Hi-fi"! In fact, I'm not in the market, but I want to hear that thing anyway! Aesthetically, it is all class! Yeah, for $500 US, 32,424 rubles or 399 Euros or whatever one uses, it is going to be hard to beat. I'd be seriously trying to find a demo if I did not have anything else going. Sounds like while it would not match my Sansui 8080db, it could be a good surrogate for it with that sound shape. At 45 wpc into 8 ohms, for me I'd go bridged (I like to feed my speakers well as I'm a full-range guy).
You know me, I hate creating rave reviews. Especially when it comes to gear that will be better appreciated by experienced ears. But you know what? Screw it. It's good stuff that deserves the recognition / tip o' the hat.
@@ZeroFidelity Yeah, hell Sean, your rave reviews are far more believable than those from "the big boys". You don't ham it up or wax poetic with mis-used descriptors like "the other guys". You are honest and ethical! You put it on the table as-is so folks can take it or leave it. Those other guys come off sounding like shills because even if the piece has caveats that heavily outweigh the pluses, they will give a rave review to the highest bidder, be it for ad dollars or favors! It's like watching the home shopping network paid ads with those guys (90% bull shit, 10% real content). Affordable Hi-fi is not that rare, but affordable "Badass Hi-Fi" is rare and does indeed deserve the word!
@@ericelliott227 As always man, I appreciate your recognition and kind words. For me, a rave review isn't a pay day. Instead, it's the opposite: It's like putting my neck on the proverbial chopping block. All I can do is hope that the folks who spend their hard earned cash experience the same thing that I did.
@@ZeroFidelity Exactly, that is what needs to be considered and recognized for any journalist/reviewer, whatever. I never did "rave reviews". While I was not out to be a full-time reviewer, taking stuff in from manufactures and such like you and Ron and others do, I was like you, "just the facts Maam" for what pieces I did review. I'd occasionally say whether or not I personally liked something, but always caveated it clearly stating it was my sole opinion. Amp makers seek neutrality in making their amps, I was seeking it in my writing. Even though I was not super popular and such, I still turned down many a request from manufactures, etc. Just not really working that side of the street. I do "how-to" stuff though, such as care and maintenance, so just doing that one is sticking their neck in the guillotine. Get it wrong and lots of trouble comes your way.
Happy New Year 2021 Sean, Do you think this Iota Integrated Amp would serve well as the Zone 2 Amp running off the Denon DRA-800H Receiver . The Denon has 2 Preouts to connect to a separate Amp to drive a pair of Bookshelf Speakers in a different room (I will be using my currently owned Fluance Signature Series HiFi Bookshelf speakers ). BTW, I should have done more Homework during 2020. I probably purchased the wrong Receiver for my Primary purpose - to play 2.1 Channel Stereo music in my Basement Studio / Mancave / Home office created during the COVID Hibernation. I'm a Music lover , 69 yo, and in my haste to create this "basement studio", I purchased a new Receiver (tried a Pioneer and a Yamaha and returned both), settled on the Denon even though I do not have video /surround sound added (yet?) , purchased various Bookshelf speakers ( Polks, Sonys , Fluances, and finally Elac Debut 6.2s - sent the Sonys and Polks back - kept the Fluances ), a nw AT-LP120XBT TT and 2 Tascam units (CD-RW900mkII and a Dual Cassette Recorder player. Just got a Pair of the Elac Debut Reference Speakers (now paired with the Elac Debuts in a A and B speaker configuration). I had the Flus paired with the Elac Debuts , and they played very well together in the basement studio [finished basement of about 400 s. ft]. - yes, I know a No-No in audiophile land of mixing speaker brands ..... The new Elac Debut Reference speakers are Outstanding and pair very well together. I play my drum kit in the basement too. Now retired (Oct 2020), after working from home since March. The Flus at $200 fpr Bookshelf speakers are very good. I decided to keep them and now will put them to another rooms use with the aforementioned request for your opinion for Zone 2.... or use them in a future Surround Sound complete Video setup in the "mancave"[Sorry, I hate that term, but it does serve a descriptive purpose now]. THX and keep up the great work.
I'd love to know the same thing. I have the same speakers and am considering this integrated. I'm also looking at Marantz, Emotiva, and Denon. I'm just worried that the tilted up top end might be too much with the IotaVX and Emotiva.
Looks like they have taken the minimalist approach... While that sort of thing appeals to some people, I prefer knobs and switches. And instead of the backlit branding, that spot would have been better used for a level meter... But then again I'm old school when it comes to amplification and I still believe that amplifiers were perfected some time ago and manufacturers have been going backwards since...
There is another amp that they are having kittens over! The PS Audio Sprout 100. I don't know if I want this one or the Sprout. Worth checking the reviews of the Sprout 100. Steve Guttenbourge, Zero Fidelity, Thomas, the list goes on, they all LOVE it.
Looking at the back of the Sprout, @@Justwantahover, it looks like you can hook up a turntable and one other component. One. One and done. So that’s important to consider.
@@donde2k Thanks, I gave up on any amp except maybe a MOSFET (which are expensive like tube amps are). My amp is supposed to be a "MOSFET" but the data I actually heard on it is vague to say the least. And the amp only cost $300 (new) and if it was like most MOSFETS you could easily add a zero to the price. Nevertheless it's a very good amp and it literally KILLS my NAD (that cost 3 times the price). So after doing that (surprising) comparison I will only get a MOSFET. It's a design difference. I think the transistors work differently and so sound different. They say MOSFETs sound more "tube like" than most transistor amps. I did a comparison of both amps with speakers (that had tweeters with no metal diaphragm). And my cheap "MOSFET" amp makes the cymbals sound more "metal" like than the NAD does...just to give you an idea of what I'm talking about.
Hey sean, awesome review as always. Would you consider the SA3 your go to recommendation under $600 (exchange rate increase) in 2021 if 50wpc is enough power? Especially considering I could get the AXR100 refurb for $450?
Nice job on the review. How would you say this SA3 stacks up against the Parasound Model 275 v2 that you reviewed a while back? I know one is an integrated and the other is a power amp, but do you think the SA3 is a big step up in quality? I have a Model 275, which I am happy with, but this looks tempting. Damn it man, stop making me want stuff I never knew existed until you reviewed them. Hahah.
Hey Trent. In short, I think the SA3 is better in that all-around sense. On the flip side, I wouldn't say it's a *big* step up over the 275. So if you are happy with your 275 (as you should be, its a good amp), then hold onto it. Given where you are, the only move that would make sense is to go with the SA3 | PA3 combo, which of course, would cost more $$$.
Hey, thanks for a great review! I'm getting the Triangle Borea BR03 speakers for a new, budget hifi system to my livingroom. Is this amp something I should consider for this setup? I am currently leaning towards the Onkyo A-9130 (already ordered it, but won't arrive until end of may due to Covid-19 issues) but this amp actually has a better suited look for my livingroom. Oh, and I prefer listening to Jazz/modern jazz and lo-fi music. Thank you in advance! #kudos
This should compete against the outlaw unit at 700 versus 500 . Just from the specifications alone I think the outlaw will win but it’s 200 more dollars . All that said I am super excited to hear about this
Yep, the Outlaw receiver ( $ 850. ?) is pretty much unknown I suspect - it'd probably be my first choice, ' classic' styling that I like, reasonable but getting expensive price. I'm strongly with the style / perf. of early - mid '70's gear given a 6x inflation rate makes a Pioneer 636 receiver an absurd $1800. or so.
Hey I have to say that your videos are amazing very informative and they help guide me I also like to watch Thomas I think you guys keep it real as best as you can and your advice is always in everyone’s best interest. I think I’m going to buy both the integrated amp and the amplifier I was wondering what speakers would you recommend I know that you said that they match pretty much with everything on mostly everything but let me give you a little info I have a room that’s 18 x 22 with one entrance and one window what would you recommend for a room the size thanks for any advice and help that you can give me keep up the great work I love your videos. Oh and one more thing. It’s a finished basement except it’s concrete floors. Just Incase that matters for the speakers. And my budget for the speakers are $3,000 US
Paul Wibb it’s even better than it was, after many hours use this one is a keeper. Just got a crazy deal on a Rotel CD14 for $250 and using the CD14 internal DAC into the Iota it’s crazy good, even my wife mentioned how good it sounds and she has no interest in audio gear. Is this price range the SA3 amp is a no brainer.
@@xklopan Great to hear,😁, I've noticed mine has now become fuller sounding, slightly extended bass,, I am turning it up more now, 😆,, so I ordered the PA3, I was acctually looking at a new cd player, the new marantz UK. Edition, but I'm now sticking with what I have, for a while,,

ps - not to drag this out , a third bit I dislike - apparently all the controls are on the remote. baaaaad idea if true. I've never had a remote last more than 5 years and I'd expect a stereo to last double that, +. not to mention simply getting lost. chances of a replacement original remote being avail in 5 years ?
@@rickc661 I've lived with my SA3 for a few days now and one push on the control knob puts you into source selection mode; a long push puts you into bass/treble/balance adjustment mode. It's taken maybe 24 hours of use to get the amp to open up and show its true ability and I'm now happily impressed. Oh and BTW I've never had a remote fail on me (oldest kit I'm running is my Sony MXD-D3).
Great review! 3D layering front to back, where can I find that in a sub-$2000 integrated amplifier? Can you point me to some units I can investigate that have 3D qualities? Thanks..
Hello there Sean, I just received my iotavx SA3 yesterday. I must say , I am very disappointed with the outcome. Seems like they sent me a defective product or perhaps someone else's return unit. After watching your review I was so excited to get my hands and ears on one. No signal from the left channel at all. (2 sets of cable and 3 sets of speakers ) Headphone output also cant feed my headphones with healthy signal from both channel at the same time. only one side (either left or right) only works when I move the headphone jack. Product being shipped out of England I had high hopes. but I was more satisfied with the products I received from China. ( couple of tube amps) At this point I can only hope that, they provide easy return service and quick refund. I hope my problem can also help people out on your channel.
Sean, my previous comments pertained using the SA3 as a secondary Zone 2 Amp to my Denon DRA 800H Receiver. I got one yesterday. I hooked it up to a Teac CD / Cassette player directly just to test it.. tested that setup with 2 bookshelf speakers: a pair of Fluance Signature Series Surround HiFi Bookshelf speakers and new Elac Debut Reference speakers. This was tested vs the Denon DRA 800H Receiver. Honest assessment, I would say , the Iota was a bit inferior. Now to be fully transparent, I used the Denon with Tascam CD player recorder which has Digital optical connection. The Teac was connected via RCA connections. That probably made a difference too I'm sure. FYI, the digital optical connection on the Tascam to the Denon , playing audio CDs is absoultely fabulous... a quick question. Would i be able to connect the SA3 to 1 pair of the speakers which is also connected to the Denon? Of course, not to be played simultaneously.
Like the review, looks like it beats out the The Denon PMA800NE you reviewed for performance. Also looking at Audiolab 6000a which is still more money, but how would it compare? That's the problem of not being able to do side by side comparisons locally. One big issue is ...what if you lose that remote? Seems there are no onboard controls for the IOTAVX SA3, so having the remote last without fail and not losing it is important in this amps' operation. Having control knobs would be a nice feature. So, is the SQ closer to high end or just class leading budget? Also, while I know you didn't review the digital front end, it would be nice to get a sense of performance, rounded, large stage, sharp...etc. Not all of us want to buy an independent dac for $$$.
Nice reviews (not just this one). I am looking to upgrade the quality of my amplification. I have an HK 3490 which is a great amp but I can't help but think this would be an upgrade in quality and neutrality. I have Sierra 2 EX speakers 8 ohms with 86 db in-room sensitivity. Do you think this amp could power these until I added the other amp down the road?
I’ve never heard this addressed concerning this amp. It’s sold out of the U.K. No US service as I see it, if you have problems, you have to ship it overseas to have it fixed? Isn’t that a major issue with purchasing this amplifier, no matter how good it is? Why don’t reviewers mention this? It looks like a nice piece, but what happens when there is an issue? Pay shipping and customs? Time? What is the situation with service on this company stateside?
Sean, a very good non convoluted review. As you depict here and in other TH-cam vids, the selection available to audiophiliac wanna bees, is maddening. Your info is concise and well appreciated. I have a question... is there an Animal out there to allow me to switch my speaker connections ( 2 pairs of different bookshelf speakers [ my bad..... 1 pair of Fluance Signature Series Surround HiFi Bookshelf speakers and 1 pair of Elac Debuts 6.2) without switching connections from my Denon DRA-800H Receiver and connect the speakers to this new OIKA Integrated Amp?
I always enjoy your reviews abd find them very helpful. Both you and Thomas Stereo have reviewed this amp, and as a result I'm seriously considering it as an upgrade. I do have one question that I hope you can take time to answer: do you consider the phono stage and dac in this unit to be of sufficient quality, or does it require separate components for that? Thanks!
I like they just toke that square button from the elevators. Ps: Sometimes I really hope you could talk about the internal dacs of integrated amplifiers. After all, it part of the investment. The greatest reviews anyway!
I appreciate the feedback. Truth is, I'm so spoiled by my digital rig that I find it very very difficult to listen to the built-in DAC's of units like these. It's selfish .. I know.. :)
I was torn between the Marantz PM6006 (350 EUR) and the Denon PMA800NE (370 EUR) to power my Dali Zensor 3, now I'm even even further from deciding. I've been at it for months, HELP!
If review-unit available, there is great need to review rega brio amp& a critical comparison with your own reference amp...another request cambridge cxa60 vs audiolab6000a amp... Dali spektor2 becoming popular enough--- a review & direct comparison with psb alpha p5...may God bless you..
Is there really demand for a 45 WPC amp at 8 ohms? If I'm driving bookshelves, I'd much rather have something in a sprout profile. By the time you get this and the PA3 in order to bridge it and get some reasonable power, it seems it jumps into an even less competitive bracket. I just don't get who this is for,
Given how well amplifiers at this power output spec sell, I'd say there's a huge demand for em'. Whether you have $100 to spend or $50,000. Now if you'd rather have a smaller product, that's perfectly fair. But if you were listen to the two side by side, I think you'd more easily be able to understand why many people would rather go for the SA3.
Did I miss something here? What's the wattage?, the distortion?, Signal to noise ratio, etc...You know, the way we know if an amplifier is suitable for our needs. :\
hehe Funny. I had an Onix CDP back in the day. That was one of those brands that you knew was going to float away. With some companies, their fate is obvious. Others either die a slow death, or become a shell of their former selves. From what I can tell, Iotavx doesn't plan on going anywhere anytime soon. This was something I vetted before moving forward with the review. But let's face it, it's a saturated market and survival can be tough. I wish them well.
Greetings from Germany. I'm looking forward to the combined test of the sa3 and pa3. How do they perform in comparison to a yamaha s700? Will be used with xtz 99.36 loudspeakers. These speakers are defently worth a review 😉
Hi everyone, may I ask for advice? My 42 year old yamaha cr400 needs a replacement, but I’ve only had the chance to compare it to an old NAD3020, which is too warm for me and the stereo amp part of a recently purchased Marantz a/v receiver, which I feel makes everything sound too beautiful and too similar, for instance it takes the rough edges and natural white noises out the saxophones, making them sound like a different instrument. The Yamaha, on the other hand, lacks the beautiful low end of the Marantz, and may seem a little rough on the upper mids at times, but every instrument and voice seem so real, the timbre and tone are really accurate I guess what I’m looking for is a natural sounding amp with a little more of the entertainment factor lacking in Yamaha, but I can’t spend much, unfortunately, so I’ve narrowed it down to: Yamaha as501 (I like how the old one renders instruments and voices; Marantz pm6006 (too sweet but fits the aesthetics of av and cd player) Onkyo 9130 (has pre in-outs for av receiver). Do you feel this could be a worthy addition to the list?? I already have it on the shopping cart and it’s 3:44 am, am I at risk of taking a terrible compulsive decision? hehe Many thanks for the wonderful review, cheers!!
It's impossible for anyone to say what will make you happy. At least not with a 100% degree of certainty. The best I can say is that the SA3 should be able to do what you're looking for. The only thing you'd risk is return-shipping costs, which I admit may be heavy depending on where you are. It's not overly warm, or too old, or too homogenizing.
Hey, many thanks for answering!! It’s so hard to choose when there’s no chance to audition components which will presumably accompany you for a long time... I think I’ve narrowed it down to the A s701 or this...the power amp is tempting too...
@@khg7339 If the Yamaha lacks the low end get yourself a subwoofer, My Pio lacked the low-end got myself a used MK subwoofer now it sounds like a Marantz with better details :D now I’m thinking of getting a centre speaker to see if I can get more out of the mids, I’m experimenting to see if I can get the most out of my cheap budget system without having to spend $20,000 on cables lol
Excellent review. Please tell us, would we get better Quality sound by using a Blue Sound Node 2i, with the SA3 -VS- the built in DAC of the SA3 via Dongle Bluetooth? I we us Tidal streaming. As always your assistance is very much appreciated, THANKS !
I really really like this..... I'm on the market for a new amp aswell. And it has digital in which I need! How does the on board dac perform? Plus you gained a new sub fir a fantastic review 👌
Thanks Tim. Truth be told, I have no idea how the DAC performs. I rarely test out the built-in DAC's of these units because, quite frankly, I'm overly spoiled by my primary digital source. :D
I think your doing a great job bringing more people into this crazy ass hobby.
Hi, can you buy direct from them, not looked them up yet, just saw the review and am very interested,,
Did you demo the units,, ??
Did you ever get this issue resolved? I ask because I'm having low volume issues with the bt module & awaiting a response from iota
I have the stack too and looking for upgrade my good but entry Elac b6.2 speaks. what speaks are you listen to?
That is such a beautiful design. Very simplistic yet elegant. Love the led ring around the gain knob!
I wish more amplifiers were as fully loaded and future proofed as the SA3. Well done IOTAVX.
You have conducted an excellent balanced and enjoyable review of this product, free of hyperbole and bad language, this is the first time Ive watched one of your reviews it will not be the last. An excellent video
Kudos from across the pond, balanced, intelligent easy to follow reviews definitely intend to check out this amp

BWWGL9 hi ask please if i can connect this to a av receiver? Thanks
If you don't mind me asking, how does it pair with the S400's?
I have ordered this and I want to thank you for your honest review and valuable information in my decision-making process.
@@IamVintage72 my AV receiver is AVR-X3700H Denon. Which is at a $1200 price.
Sean,
Love your reviews and appreciate your excellent product reviews..
Old time passion and recently decided now empty nesters to get back to my passion.
Love the story of the company and really like true pure sound that hasn’t been enhanced..
I ordered and received a personal note from Ian..
Can’t wait to receive and add to my setup..
It’s been crazy figuring speakers old days had great speakers from Kef 105’s to
Magnagan 1600’s..
Going Bookself’s this time around..

With that profile and price, I figured it would definitely be another chip amp. Surprise, surprise, a real amp with a real power supply. Kudos to IOTA.
Hey hey, class D and chip amps are "real" amps too. The LM3886 chip amp runs in class AB and sounds better than most stuff out there.
I'm definitely going to have to keep this in mind when I setup my first hi-fi stereo system. Thanks for the review!
Yes, welcome mate. It gets expensive quick, you have been warned haha.
@@pwhittak88 oh yeah, I'm aware there's basically no limit on what you can potentially spend on audio gear.
Might be intersting to compare sound quality between Bluetooth and connecting the laptop or phone to a cheap DAC as source to the IOTAVX
have you compared the iota bt with any dac ? Im interested in that.
and have you use other speaks than br03 with the iota?
Hi Howard,
How are you finding the new amp
this reviewer is excellent. I never heard of him before yesterday
He's MAD! He speaks quick, what I like on TH-cam videos.
Good to see another newcomer doing great.
It truly is.
Sean. Over on the customer reviews section of their Web site, you get some very positive shouts because of your review. So much so that based upon your review and others I'm going to see if I can borrow one to have a listen in my second system. 45w@8 ohms is perfect for my reading room/library. Will feedback soon.
Love it LOVE IT! Nice review man. I like components like this.
Wow! The price is amazing and to think it might have had a brand from a golden age of hi fi.
Interested in that too! I ordered my pair of S400 this week and still comparing options for amps around 1000€.

Nice review. Didn't know this brand either, looks very interesting. Build quality looks very good for the money too.
Awesome review, great effort 10/10. I came across this company a few months back when a friend of mine got sent a power amp for review and everytime I saw him, I noticed he hadn't sent the amp back to the company, 6 months passed and
I said..
"Dude whats the deal?"
he said...
"I've tried every amp of the same price and many costing 4-5 times more and the Iota outperforms everything I've put in front of it and by a big margin. The bottom line is I'm keeping it in my studio and it's now my new go to reference I use to compare the competition.

Just picked this up with a pair of svs ultra bookshelves. I'm hoping it will be a magical pairing for my start into the home theater/HiFi world. Thanks for the introduction to iota!
Looking for an amp for SVS ultra bookshelves, how does this amp sound with them? Curious...
@@ZeroFidelity Panasonic GH-5? If so, there is a firmware update available. Uh, several actually...
I have emailed this company three times trying to find out what the dac inside is capable of 24/192 ? They've never responded to me which makes me very weary of buying this amp.
Am getting the both pre&power soon..thanks for posting..
Oh yeah. The SA3 (by its lonesome) outputs 45wpc into 8 ohms and 90wpc into 4 ohms.
Doubles down, nice. Little wonder that it can play with your stable of speakers.
What does it do bridging it mono to a 4ohm speaker?

Sound like a good match for my Klipsch Heresy's.
Will be testing this combo on a set of Forte III's very soon. :)
Hi Shawn,
I have followed several of your videos, especially about amplifiers.
What speaker cables are you using with this please? I’m curious!
Nils Koch which Marantz did you have?

Ok I’m interested.
Thanks for the review! IotaVX + ELAC Debut 6.2: good combination?
I'd love to know the same thing. I have the same speakers and am considering this integrated. I'm also looking at Marantz, Emotiva, and Denon. I'm just worried that the tilted up top end might be too much with the IotaVX and Emotiva.
Looks like they have taken the minimalist approach... While that sort of thing appeals to some people, I prefer knobs and switches. And instead of the backlit branding, that spot would have been better used for a level meter... But then again I'm old school when it comes to amplification and I still believe that amplifiers were perfected some time ago and manufacturers have been going backwards since...
Ordering this next month really like how it looks and I want to upgrade my Teac
And my cheap "MOSFET" amp makes the cymbals sound more "metal" like than the NAD does...just to give you an idea of what I'm talking about.
so which one should I get The PS audio sprout 100 or the iotavx sa3 ///
I went with the Iotavx... I don't regret my choice. Absolutely love it.
I also wonder this... I love my sprout... but this thing has me intrigued...
Does the iotavx company offer in-home trials?
I got the pa 3 to go with my denon 3600h. it is a wonderful combination.
Can you compare it to marantz pm6006
Top of the line Integrated Wadia 151 (with USB input) Used same price. Still would love to hear it.
All that said I am super excited to hear about this
I used to have an Outlaw RR2150 receiver 10 or so years ago. Powerful. A bit unrefined (budget sounding in that regard), but solid all the same.
Zero Fidelity I think the one I'm talking about is rr2160
Really great for my maggies
@@dilbyjones Gotcha. Yep. I'd need to check it out in-person to say for sure.
And my budget for the speakers are $3,000 US
I've had one for 5 days now and all I can say is for the money it cant be beat!
Hi, are you still enjoying the amp,, ?

Nice review, nice performing amp.
Awesome review.
excellent review, excellent. to start, actual price was mentioned..... as a product, the only things I'd mention : 2 nd set of speakers. 2. SILVER. gawd awful ugh black....
The silver suggestion is interesting. Now I'm curious about how that would actually look.
ps - not to drag this out , a third bit I dislike - apparently all the controls are on the remote. baaaaad idea if true.
( couple of tube amps)
At this point I can only hope that, they provide easy return service and quick refund.
Hi, can anyone tell more about the build in DAC from Wolfson? I can‘t find any specs. 🤔
That's an excellent point.
I know.. :)

I really want to know how this would compare against parasound p5 with a23. Or with parasound integrated.
Hello thank you for your super nice and well explained videos, do you think that this amp would do well with Klipsh RP 600M ?
WOW..!! I just fell in love............
Did I miss something here? What's the wattage?, the distortion?, Signal to noise ratio, etc...You know, the way we know if an amplifier is suitable for our needs. :\

This is gonna be a perfect match for my ONIX CD player... British, black - and out of business faster than you can say 1-2-3 ;)
The question on everybody's mind is, “how does it compare to the Marantz PM6006 tonally?” Is the Marantz more forward in the vocals?
Francesco Scinico please someone at least speculate this for us. Please guys
I too would like to know this Lol. I'm considering selling my pm6005 for the stack set up of the iota.
The Yamaha, on the other hand, lacks the beautiful low end of the Marantz, and may seem a little rough on the upper mids at times, but every instrument and voice seem so real, the timbre and tone are really accurate
I guess what I’m looking for is a natural sounding amp with a little more of the entertainment factor lacking in Yamaha, but I can’t spend much, unfortunately, so I’ve narrowed it down to:
Yamaha as501 (I like how the old one renders instruments and voices;
Marantz pm6006 (too sweet but fits the aesthetics of av and cd player)
Onkyo 9130 (has pre in-outs for av receiver).
Do you feel this could be a worthy addition to the list?? I already have it on the shopping cart and it’s 3:44 am, am I at risk of taking a terrible compulsive decision? hehe
Many thanks for the wonderful review, cheers!!
