I think the producers are definitely all in for painting Derek as a nice guy, which for me is hard to buy given his past conduct towards the women he dated (Taylor, Olivia).

He proposed to Taylor on a BIP reunion show, even though she asked him not to and when they broke up, he didn't allow her to recover her furniture from their house and he compared her to a cow on IG post.

I think a lot of editing is going on in the whole JPJ vs Derek. Plus Tayshia was very sly because she didn’t want to be the one to break things off with JPJ.

I thought Dean was SUPER respectful and mature in his conduct. I really loved him on Rachel's season, though he did seem too young to get engaged at the time, and his family drama was heart-breaking, I was mad at the producers for exploiting it. He's a sweetheart and a genuinely good guy IMO. He definitely looked bad after his first Paradise, but he's still got SUCH a reputation and unless there's been a lot of off-camera drama it seems mostly undeserved? Like, Blake clearly DMs and hooks up with every single BN woman he can, but I think Dean just had that one Christina/D-Lo lapse of judgement. I don't really think they should have brought him onto Paradise this time if he only wanted to mess around (same with Blake), but at least he's honest and knows himself. That said, that preview comeback... At least sleuthing seems to indicate it works out for them! Although he's nomadic he seems very mature and grounded, could be a good influence on "young Caelynn Miller-Keyes" as he put it haha.
I agree...he's actually one of the few genuinely interesting people in the franchise. Why hate on him if his "journey" is that he discovers that white picket fences aren't what he wants? Maybe he doesn't always handle things the best way possible, but who does. But he seems to be truly empathetic and honest.
He probably came on for the free food, drinks, lodging and showers. I don't mean that in a sparky way either. He IS roughing it living in a van. He's just a practical guy.
What was his family drama?
@@AlllSmiless his mom died when he was a young teen, 15 or so. His dad n siblings basically abandoned him and he was left to fend for himself. Poor kid. He is estranged from them.

This season of Paradise has been a letdown for me: the bus-throwing of Blake is tiring, the Dylan/Hannah G romance is boring, Kirstina being insufferable, the Demi/Kristian storyline being so obviously producer fabricated, the whitewashing of Derek and now JPJ's trainwreck. What ever happened to the fun moments like in previous season?

Kristina was a fave of mine during the whole Dean ordeal. Now she's like the worst person on the beach. All she's doing is throwing shade, starting drama and not even looking for someone. I know that's the whole point but yeah....she just needs to go home.

JPJ has the geek personality: highly intelligent but tunnel vision. So he tried to talk to Tayshia before confronting Derek. He lacks self control, patience until the right timing, allowing a shared conversation rather than controlling it. He had feelings from the start since his Romeo romantic poem was meant to express his love for her but she didn’t get it. Love his cartwheel, humor, poem. Odd, see Conner and Hannah G with more in common; her chemistry for Dylan seem to be missing. Caelynn wants to be loved, to be married and is attracted to Dean’s charisma, charm and looks. He returns because he realize she does love him and traveling alone is not nearly as fun as having someone that loves you around. Maybe it’s a rebellious stage that will wear off or she’ll have to accept the hippie life for life.
Limited seating for BIP makes no sense because the people that hasn't shown up on BIP yet were INVITED TO STAY! This episode was so much like high school. The seniors chose under classmen to sit at their "cool table." I felt for Sydney. She only wanted to dance.

What, in your opinion are worse, seagulls or pigeons. ... Pigeons are much more timid than seagulls, and are more likely to run away when you approach them. Pigeons have nicer plumage and are far less noisy then seagulls are, I don't think I've ever heard pigeons make noise, actually. Pigeons and seagulls are from two entirely different bird families so not closely related at all. Rock doves (now called feral pigeons) have lived alongside man for millennia, ever since we provided them with the cliff-like structures (ie buildings) they need, and scraps of discarded food. From what I've seen seagulls fall wherever they are when they die. If they are ill or injured, they are unlikely to be flying to go to sea. This explains why you see their carcasses along the shore or in creek inlets.

I think we’re ignoring a very real possibility that JPJ has a little bit of a drinking problem.
I hate to stereotype him into the “frat guy” bubble, but it’s a hard reality for people who do hang with that type of crowd.
Everyone’s shock that his behavior “just isn’t like JPJ”
His “charming” stuttering and repeating in the Tajuan/Haley situation
Overly emotional and “in love” with taysha after... a few days?
The two vomiting situations. I couldn’t help but notice he seemed pretty intoxicated and that couldn’t have helped his “queasy stomach”.
And last but not least: Constant goofy antics/falling over/uncontrollable laughter....
I know it seems charming and harmless, but from my perspective he seems consistently more intoxicated than the rest of the cast. Could mean that he’s not holding back on the unlimited free alcohol. And for someone who’s been drinking heavily (albeit recreationally) for a decent amount of time, he may be able to hold his liquor to not be cut off or to only display intoxication as being goofy. But although the Derek aggression is the first presentation of it as dangerous to those around him, this type of alcoholism is even more prevalent than what we normally think of.
I’m not accusing him at all, but I think it’s something that I haven’t heard brought up and I can’t watch him and not consider it. If anything, it could definitely shed light on his actions and a type of “drinking problem” that many brush under the rug, especially in young people.

Ashley Koester did i say i was diagnosing? I was pretty clear that this is only my personal theory and I’m not accusing him. But i think it’s important to acknowledge the possibility that alcohol has influenced his behavior. I think people too often forget that the bachelor cast is consistently provided with alcohol....

As for JPJ, I was never on the whole bandwagon until the episode before the wedding fiasco. He really knew how to disappoint me 🙃
Mike and Sydney are the only couple who has remained unproblematic throughout the whole season so far so I stan.
