I love these stories. What you said about the "harsh style of battling" reminded me of 2007 when I was in Bulgaria and there were some bboys in one of the restaurants that we visited. I asked them if it was cool if I could throw some sets with them and it quickly turned into battle with one of them. It all ended with good feelings but a friend of mine asked me a little bit later "why were you so angry with each other?". It was just the way it was. I know that there was no beef but when you battle, it may look like we are actually having an argument. But in the end, we are all friends!
dude you were a legend. same as born. i remember thinking you had one of the crispest cleanest footwork, flow, style, and freezes. that was an awesome recap. used to download your clips and save em pre youtube days hahaha (same with many bboys from that early early 2000s era).

0:34 Definitely agree about the first point. Of my top 5 battles I've seen only 2 (Yasmin and Miju vs. Ayu and Ami; American all-stars vs. Japan all-stars) made it to TH-cam. The others were nuts battles that I saw at clubs after events (Korean all-stars vs. Lil Jon, Remind and Moy; Moy vs. Legacy; Ronnie vs. LamaROC) and most people don't even know that they happened.

You nailed it. Todays battles have such a friendly sporty approach to it. Kinda makes the whole thing less intense and the dancers less invested in the battles..

I think it would be a good way to show some respect to dancers who are underrated or never got shine of big events :)

What's interesting about this video is that the famous Bboy channel Koreanroc actually uploaded this a few days ago. In it the entire cypher battle. And just a couple of days ago, he also uploaded the Rivers vs Flow Mo battle where both you and Born had an exchange once again. I'm not sure which came first but what I do know is that I along with others had you winning both the cypher battle ( by far ) and the crew exchange.
The crew battle, exchange was where I had you even with you winning the first, second being a tie, Born taking the third and you winning the fourth and final exchange. Which also gave Flow Mo the victory.
As much of a foundation Bboy as Born may be, this is the second time someone with a name ( like yourself ) actually dusts him. Casper did that man dirty in both cypher encounters.
He's good in crew battles and maybe even in organized 1v1 but he's been taken to the cleaners already twice. Mind you, I never even knew you both actually battled.
That being said, my former partner and I used to frequent a local lounge here in Hollywood where many Bboys used to cypher to funk amongst other type of records. A lot of well known heads used to go there too ! One particular night my partner was throwing cypher rounds while I observed. I thought he was actually battling while other heads involved in the scene watched. Turns out the guy he almost got into a battle with was Born. I didn't even recognize him nor did I even know what he looked like. But before my boy told me who he was, Born was killing the beats. I honestly thought he was just another Bboy riding the wave trying to synch his moves to every break, lyrics since the scene in LA at that time was filled with many Concrete Allstars who were also part of MZK. Those Chuck Taylor, wearing individuals were everywhere.
