Thanxs for the video great walk through. I was actually worried about doing this my self cuz i watched the wrong video where a guy had a 2.4 ecotec engine and he had to use a special tool for the water pump but luckily my malibu is a 3.6l v6 just like yours
I did mine in 2016.... kept the stock bolts and still running perfectly at 41 000 miles later. I think I recalled balking at paying $15 per bolt or some ridiculous price so I decided to keep the originals.
@@JoeTheAutoGuy Ironically, I just changed out my radiator and fans 3 days ago. One of the fan blades cracked into multiple pieces while idling and fired shrapnel into the radiator... punctured it beyond repair. Luckily, it was in my own driveway lol. Crazy!
great video, im about to perform this same job for hte first time on my 2009 malibu. do you happen to have another video on how to put the belt back on?
I've never done a water pump on this particular engine, but it seems much easier than expected. Also, that looks like a very unique chrome deep socket with an outside square cut , what brand is it? Thanks for sharing Joe.
Back in Nov of 2016 I believe I was told over $700 at the dealer.... parts and labor. Of note, I did it myself with a Carquest water pump and lifetime warranty for $90
I have a 2010 chevy malibu. I think it's my water pump cuz it's leaking from were u just change your out at does that cause the water pump to leak like that or what?
it took me about half an hour of the actual repair , filling the cooling system and letting it run about another 15 to 20 minutes to be sure repair successful
Fill vehicle with coolant , run vehicle at idle with cap off top off as necessary , run vehicle for accelerated idle 1500 ram for 30 seconds , three times , check coolant level top off as necessary then close cap and test drive if vehicle exhibits overheating, let cool down to cold start and repeat process
I will definitely stick with Asian cars like Toyota, you can drive for 20 years without changing a water pump. On the contrary GM cats after 40k miles the pump & compressor needs to be replaced, stupid cars
THANK YOU for being the FIRST GUY in like 5 videos that told me the torque specs! (89in/lbs)

best video for chevy water pump, everybody else gots tremors trying to hold a camera, poor lighting, or cant stop swearing for just on sentence.
Yes just because it’s a dirty job doesn’t mean professionalism isn’t wanted. It’s needed
Absolutely phenomenal video. You are probably if not the best how to video
Great video, thanks! The setup is identical to my 2008 Pontiac G6 2.6L.
Awesome job! How do u change the camshaft actuator solenoids?

plenty of people have but dealer sells a bolt kit that goes for about 11 bucks i believe in my area

What is that bracket above the water pump pulley with 3/4 in bolts?
Great video!!!Thanks you save me from getting Rob.
So you have to bleed it by squeezing the water hose ?
does this require any special tools??
Thank you for the video really help 9:59
What size breaker bar or ratchet did u use for belt tensioner?
is a 1/2 inch
Is there enough room to do the timing chains without removing the engine?
How much is this labor? Looks like a tight space
great video, im about to perform this same job for hte first time on my 2009 malibu. do you happen to have another video on how to put the belt back on?
You can Google the belt diagram on any car

Milwaukee sockets i have a video review on them they are fantastic!!!
Can you take the bracket off the motor that hold the strut mount on? It has two 18mm bolts.
How do you bleed the system jon?
I have the same question anyone knows??
I’m also looking for how to bleed the system
Same
If you remove that black bar with two 18mm bolts it give you way more room and you don’t have to fight getting the water pump in
Was gonna say this, also don't know why the bolts need to be replaced thats kinda dumb. And of course they are 8$ EACH at the dealer
Is this the same 3.6 that is in the RS Camaro’s?
this one is in front wheel drive configuration but yes similar design
What is the labor flat rate time for this procedure?
Someone just told me $465

It's either the water pump , or the hose connection above it
What if you don’t have a serpentine belt tool
we have a 2008 ltz Malibu 3.6, it blew the timing belt, do you think we bent valves? Thank you
3.6 uses timing chain setup does it run are you getting any dtcs ??
Great video sir.
Boom Baby great video!!!
Glad you liked it!!
Thanks for the awsome video man thanks
No problem 👍
How long does it take roughly to do this job? I'm debating doing it myself or taking it to a mechanic.

@@JoeTheAutoGuy thanks for the info! awesome vid by the way. Very informative.

@@JoeTheAutoGuy thank you very much!!
I just replaced mine 1 hour ago I still have to add the antifreeze
You mention that the bolts come with the pump what about the gasket ?
most waterpumps come with gaskets this one did as well , but always a good idea to check
@@JoeTheAutoGuy how do you bleed the system?

What size bolts??
Well done Thank you
Ooooooooooooooooooooooo[oo

You're welcome!
Really wish you would have left how to bleed the system on your video…

I hate my malibu wit a pasion everything a big job on this shiiti
Where the hell is the thermostat for these 3.6 engines????
In the middle above transmission housing where other radiator hose goes to
@@JoeTheAutoGuy thanks!
@@JoeTheAutoGuyso it’s no the hose right above the water pump
I can not for the life of me get all the air out on this engine and there is no bleeder screw
Did you run with cap off?
