You NEED to Visit Puglia Italy 🇮🇹 The Next Amalfi Coast? Monopoli + Polignano a Mare (Travel Guide)

  • Travel to Puglia Italy. In this week's video we're visiting one of the less known regions of Italy, Puglia. Puglia is almost a secret in Italy, situated in the "boot" of Italy, it isn't as famous or as visited as some other regions of Italy.
We start the video in the town of Polignano a Mare. The town itself is very famous for a beach called Lama Monachile. We start off the video with a great view overlooking the beach and eventually make our way down to it to check out the pebble beach surrounding by dramatic cliffs.
We then head into the old town of Polignano a Mare and explore the small streets, squares and look off points. We stop at a restaurant called Il Grottino to try a local pasta dish called Orecchiette alla Pugliese.
We then make our way to the train station and take a 5 minute ride to the town we're staying, Monopoli.
In Monopoli we stop for a delicious Cafe freddo at Iridium Café.
We then take you on a tour of our apartment rental. Book it here: www.airbnb.com/rooms/50316063
Lastly we take a walk around the old town of Monopoli, stopping at the beach just outside the old walls and walking around the walled city.
We end the video from our room on a ferry going to our next country!

I love Puglia. It's still so undiscovered. Spent a week there in 2018 and returned this year for a month. Even purchased a house there. We visted several towns there and I really loved the vibe in Polignano a mare.

    • @italianna6541

@@mmemandy8859 We loved the beaches on both the east coast and west coast. On the east coast begin from Torre del Orso area include Grotta della Poesia and travel south to Otranto. Further south is Castro too. On the west coast there is Porto Cesario to the north and Torre San Giovanni to the south. But all the beaches in between equally nice. Some have lidos and some are natural.

I've been watching your Greek Island videos and am so jealous of all your travels :) We are from Canada, but my parents are from Puglia and always told my husband that it is authentic Italy. The food is amazing and not expensive and the nature is just beautiful! Enjoy and happy travels!

BTW, most of the Italian towns still have siesta in the afternoons. I think only the big cities do not follow it anymore. My husband is from Le Marche which is east of Rome and they still follow siesta as well. We used to have to rush back from the beach in the summer to make sure to get groceries before closing at 1pm. For us Canadians, it is hard to get used to, but in the summer when it is really hot, going for a nap sounded great :)

I agree! I too am from Canada, and wish we had way better trains and other modes of transportation. Our country is SO vast, it is a shame we can't easily access more of it in a shorter amount of time; without flying. I love the idea of traveling via train across our country...just more economically.

We in Italy don't drink ice coffee, so I'm sure you had to describe how you wanted you ice coffee to the barman. Next time try the "Granita di caffè". The ice gets blended in a mixer together with coffee.

Actually in previous videos we tried to get “iced coffee” that came cold but no ice. At this location in Monopoli we asked for a Freddo Cafe and it’s exactly as they serve it. We never would have even dreamed of asking for frozen coffee in our cold coffee! Definitely not our request or invention but it was amazing!

Frankly, iced coffee just isn’t popular in Italy. Italian coffee culture is extremely deeply rooted. Coffee is deeply rooted into Italian history and culture, and it is a very big part of a typical Italian person’s social life. Since old habits are hard to change, “new” coffee beverages haven’t really gained much traction. Italians created espresso, lattes, and cappuccinos and are very happy with them, so why change?
