The van has been beautifully renovated using almost entirely recycled and salvaged materials, mostly pallet wood. Kylie and Stu had dreamed of living in a Kombi van and did the entire renovation themselves. In this video, we dive into the build process, as well as learn what it's like to live full time in a VW Kombi van.

I lived in my 1971 kombi in Wellington for over a year while studying. I basically lived at university and came 'home' just to sleep. I had harbour views and my brother lived on the other side of the valley, great for showers and sharing meals. On the weekends i'd go out to one of the bays to study, swim, jog and cook. In winter i'd just light a candle and that was enough to take the chill out of the air. Good times!
Beautiful
I just returned from 5 months traveling through the Philippines now I'm home saving to buy a van and travel the USA I can't wait! Great video thanks for the inspiration!!
Dustin Borglin have you enjoyed your travel here in the Philippines?
How is that going?! We want updates!
madison alyse agreed
Hi Im from Philippines
Hi Dustin, hows it going with your van? I’m curious :) and also half Filipino and absolutely love how you travelled the islands for so long!
To watch this video was fun. I had bought a VW Westfalia exactly 40 years ago. For many years we (my wife, our daughter and me) spent 3 month per year in this bus, traveling in Central Europe...the good old times!...
Brings back so many memories for me. My parents bought a VW camper van in 1975. Was Sage green and had the exact plaid upholstery as they have. Mom and Dad slept upstairs. Got up there by stepping on the countertop and hopping up. We traveled all over the northeast of USA and Canada. PEI and such. I slept downstairs with the sofa opened out. Love the added solar panel. We had no hot water and one gas burner. Had very narrow closet on each side in behind the sofa. Had very hard time going up hill. Not much power. But wonderful wonderful memories. Thanks for sharing.
I love their optimism and cheerfulness. It's great to see people living sustainable, relaxed and happy lifestyles. Less is more!
Much much more than just a van conversion. Hearing and seeing this generation talk, fills me with hope, as they are our future leaders. Thanks for sharing :)
Is anyone else geeking out over the book shelf with ropes to keep everything in place?! I've never seen that before. It's so simple yet clever. Love this van!! 😍
Nice couple and conversion. Living and travelling with a purpose, engaging with communities and people along the way. Realizing their impact on the environment and making an effort to understand others is commendable...which is the message of Bryce (and crew) is conveying in these vids, imo. Thanks to those who share their journeys and thanks to Living Big In A Tiny House for bringing it with each video.
Awhhh my parents owned a decked out kombi van and growing up in the 70’s and 80’s we would travel all over Western Australia 🇦🇺
Camping in forests down south and along the coast.
BBQ ‘s at the beach and waking up to crisp fresh air and running around tall old growth forest trees living like hippies. Loved it.
Dang Bryce is a really good communicator/ interviewer
rutovatri I agree, I think he’s the very best!!😊
rutovatri why is he always coming out of trees tho
@@isabelle3164 maybe just to show the kind of place where the house owners live.
He looks like a white Keegan.
loved when he said, "Oh thought of you when we planned" hahaha for the height of the van...Bryce is doing a great job to make such impact to make people think of him when designing their lifestyle....cool! another great video!
No they were making a joke
..
He was joking
Great video, thank you to Bryce and the team. I enjoy each and every video that Living Big In A Tiny House makes and shares.
I liked this episode a lot because I think it's so nice and refreshing to hear young people enjoying life on the road and traveling around Australia to learn, work and live. Instead of saving their cash and heading overseas, they bought a kombi and said lets check out our beautiful countryside and have an adventure along the way with a memorable tale to tell later on in life. I really like the van and their added extras- those kinds of things set it out from other vans and make it a complete home.
wow these 2 don't mind getting cozy
watching this 2 years on. would be fun to have a reconnect. this channel with Bryce and Rasa is my absolute favorite
for so many reasons. Mostly, the sincerity and the enthusiasm and the genuine love of living tiny. It really makes my heart
happy. so many wonderful people on this great big planet.
This couple are on such a great mission! Australia is the home of Permaculture, and I can't wait to see what amazing stories they come across during their travels. What an amazing way to explore the world, and what a cool home on wheels!? I really hope you all enjoy this weeks episode!
Living Big In A Tiny House , thank you for all you do :)
Splendid work
Living Big In A Tiny House I loved this beautiful video. Couple, vehicle and way of life were all just beautiful. It's the first word that came to mind after watching. Your videos really make me want to visit Australia and New Zealand. Thank you.
They squirmed out of the hygiene question. If possible can you please ask people directly how they deal with it, because some people are really considering this lifestyle and hygiene is a really big deal. There are different ways of doing it.
Aerin Lena many have live this way of life for years, and don't use the bushes. I asked to highlight the way they do hiding because most of them have laser doing hygiene and don't use a bucket of water to keep themselves clean, but have other ways of doing it.
Love the young people of this awesome country. Inspiring me to live healthier, more sustainable and less selfish. Inspired by your generation. Safe and fun travels.
Interesting video. I just can't help wondering how they manage without a sink. But I support their right to make their choices whatever they are. I just wished they expounded more on that subject. Thank you for sharing.
Yeah, I would have liked some more chat about that too, and how they handle their hygiene needs, toilet etc when they don't stay on a farm.
Elle same here
I think a sink is a big waste of space in a small van like this a bowl on a table outside is a great alternative. campervans like this were not designed to be lived in they were originally made for short breaks as a more comfortable alternative to a tent.
The Way She Speaks... So Positive and Cheerful... 💓
Pretty cool van, though am wondering how they keep clean and no bathroom facilities. Love the Color of the van.
I think the farms they stay at provide them with a bathroom
Me too😂
This is so inspiring! I think I've got the 'van life' itch now.
Love the whole travel from destination to destination to help and learn. Great idea and what a way to study and mingle at the same time. Hats off to you. Thanks for sharing.
I had a ‘77, great times in Fiona, same color!! Cheers guys keep up the great work! You put a huge smile on my face.
I know this model of van. It brought back memories of the 70s and 80s. Congrats on a very thoughtful restoration .
I'm glad this channel is making it's way into finding real gems. I wish this couple is documenting all of their journey. It would be of immense value to people in their community who are like-minded and want to find things about sustainable living in AU. Love from India.
They are! You can follow them on their blog and Instagram - The Bees Republic :)
I love her energy! Very positive and very powerful!
Bit over the top for my taste😏
@SunGirl Flower I hope not☺️
Love what they did with the VW. What a great way to travel and learn sustainable living at the same time.
I love how she speaks, it's just that I can feel how happy and positive she was in Wilhelmina Saige❤️
I lived in my kombi "Moo" for 10 years as I toured Oz 8 times as a folksinger. A truly fantastic journey!
Loving how you both built your home gorgeous home congratulations on your journey
Beautiful, solid, classic guaranteed size and her smile, says it all!!
The van is fantastic as well!!σε γουστάρω πολύ
What an amazing idea!! Learning, traveling, giving back along the way. Such a beautiful space too.
I love their VW turned out lovely. My favorite of the video is the way they look at each other. God bless them and their travels.
Love the floor. Smart couple tried out what they’d like and I don’t think a sink is mandatory. Nice setup.
Very encouraging to see more and more young people becoming involved with sustainable living. Such a great little van here too.
I don;t think she is that young
They are doing a great job! Hats off to their efforts.
Very good compilation... thank you living big in a tiny house
Such a beautiful couple:) on such an envious Adventure. For a Time making themselves at home in the whole wide world. Wilhelmina Saige counts herself fortunate. Having always made herself available to young couples like you. And here...She goes again.
They are the right couple with the right attitude for this, and VW pop top's are supreme. In 1966, my friend was
discharged from the Army in southern Germany, and lived for a year with his girlfriend in the Ludwigsburg
Marktplatz in a green one. They loved it. I still have an old one as well.
Toured Oz 8 times in my kombi "MOO" as a folksinger. Took ten amazing years. In the folk scene I became known as "The Man in the Moo"!
As always, thank you for your fabulous interviewing skills and sharing with us details of systems.
OMG! I'm having a flashback to the 60's!!!
I love the color scheme ans simplicity of the VW van. Lovely couple too!
I loved the bed because they managed to create a new level/space out of nowhere.
Every he has the second level
no they didn't...the Westfalias were built like that
Incredible!!!! Everything I love about van life in one beautiful video :)
Both r made for each other. Wonderful people with wonderful cab home.
What a beautiful, pure way of living! So happy for you two!!
just found your channel today. think im a decently avid youtube viewer, and your show is one of the best i have found. dont think you should, but as whatever, validation, if anyone deserved a full blown tv show, yours definitely would be on that list. incredibly talented and amazingly produced show. thanks so much for the content!!
I love it. Notice the video, updated 11 minutes ago, and there are already 390 views on it. :) Somebody must produce good content ;)
Thanks so much. Thanks for watching! :)
How did I miss this one Bryce! What a lovely couple! I love VW buses! ❤️❤️😎
This is dope. Very spacious esp with the "loft" bedroom so one is able to fully stretch in their sleep, esp for the guy since he's tall. And also stand up-straight
My goodness those check sheets were on my bed 30 years ago!!! Thanks for some lovely ideas, doing up a 1974 1600 and trying to fit kids beds....top bed great with high pop top
My original home town, absolutely gorgeous scenery!
Sometimes you just want to ‘like’ more than once. Lovely inspiring video. Thank you.
Very bubbly woman.
For sure haha. I get kindergarten teacher vibes from her or something, she has the aura of someone who works with young kids. Which could be WAY off, just the vibe I get :)
i like her
Oh crap I replied to myself
zzllup so it’s her fault that he’s weak with no charisma? 😂 sorry, snowflake, but we’re not dumbing ourselves down for you any more. Feel free to rant to your right hand.
@zzllup Ah, come on. She was just excited. She seems super friendly and sweet.
There is no problem paying $18K for that Kombi, the value of that Van is growing by 10-15%pa...... it's an investment.
Not to forget it is renovated
I can buy the same one brand new for 8k :p
Amr Tahditi Ooh, tell me where. I’d love one!
@@amandasanders1141 me 2!!!!!!!
Stu and Kylie, you're a real inspiration! Ms. Sage is a beauty! 😍
Bryce and Rasa, you're really making me get that itch to get my project further along, hopefully soon I'll be starting now that I've got some clear skies occasionally! 😎
🖤🦇
Cheers Batty! Can't wait to check out your home one day. :)
This is a really nice way of experiencing living in a "van". Well organised and spacious .
Another great video. Thank you Bryce !
Great story Bryce! Love what these guys are doing, very inspiring
Twinsies! All right, almost... Great job guys!
Nice V-Dub. Admirable way of life.
I wish the world was like them god bless them & safe travels
Don't know how i have ended how on this channel but from i did i have watching every day. But what i noticed most about these tiny house living that the occupants are always happy not with the house only but seem about their life that i most interesting about this type of living
Beautiful humble couple
It looks amazing!
It sure does!
I just always fansinate of this van conversion video this one and last time couple had also van conversion van as well it looks so nice and home feeling !
Van life is so cool. Traveling, working, and living in one 😍
beautiful project! but where do they keep thir clothes? and what is the deal which the unused space behind?
Monica Cespedes and where's the shower and the toilet?
And where's the barn door?
Monica Cespedes and where’s the 3bed apartment that all vans have?
I see! thank you for clarifying! but what I mean is, the space on top of the engine, where they have kind of a small bed, that space seems unused, and I was wandering how did they use it in they day to day life :) I did not see the drawers with the clothes though
by the way, you all need to just relax a bit maybe? I was not attcking the video or anything, just a question that I had in mind that I made with respect, hats all! I watched thousands of videos of tiny houses and I am in a project myself, and its all about using the little space you have, so I was just wandering!
Thank you Bryce et al- very cool video and story of this young couple- it's inspiring and informative thank you :)
Love, love, love! Yes: Let‘s all live as bees in a huge hive of learning and giving back! :-)) Wonder what that beautiful patio was all about... Such an inviting way to enter such an iconic home!
Love the enthusiasm
Good for them. That's fantastic!
These kids are adorable and remind me of the hippies l admired as a little kid in the 60's & 70's!! Of course these were oft seen on the roads back then. In fact you had to have a VW van to be an authentic hippie back then! I love knowing this lifestyle will never really die. In fact 50 odd years later folk are actually realizing that maybe the old hippies had it right in the first place!!👍🏻😄🐾🌈☮️🇨🇦
Great video. We will share this with our customers for sure :) We sell land in rural areas and this will help generate some great ideas. Thanks for creating this!
A nice conversion.
What I would like to know is the shower and toilet arrangement doesn't seem possible also the engine did not look like a VW engine do you know what it was ?
I love Wilhelmina Saige’s color and everything you’ve done to give her so much character!
Wonderful video and van! I'm fitting my Van out now and looking for nifty ideas. I love cooking and and looking at a slide out kitchen that can be accessed on the inside too and drop down table
Very inspiring, living sustainably is so important.
Lucky couple thanks for sharing
I love it! I will be holidaying like this as of next year! Thank you :)
Another great video. Pop ups look nice
I have had a few vans over the years. Lots of fun and many concerts. My son and I are working on our 69 Ghia that we saved the car crusher! Hope to be on the road by next year 👍✌️
I dunno why I love this car so much... Some people said if you didn't know anything about machine it would be disaster. But if I had to choose expensive sporty car and vw combi, I would always choose vw combi. It doesn't offer you speed or comfort but feelings from the past. It's replaceable!
I parked my Kombi behind a Ferrari today and I had this same thought when I looked back at the two of them. I can also tell you I've spoken to a guy who own both a classic Kombi and a very expensive Ferrari, he said no one want to talk to him when he get out of his Ferrari but everyone want to talk to him about his Kombi.
Karl Bartelt it's a special car, right... I wish someday I could have it, even I know it would cost plenty of money for its maintenance
If your'e really interested in getting a Kombi look me up on Facebook and I'll tell you all the pros and cons about owning one.
aww, she seems so fun!
Cool van. Love all the greens and reclaimed wood (although, I'm guessing it's heavy)...very inviting.
There’s an old beat up westfela in my neighborhood that’s been sitting there since I was a kid and I’d love to buy it and fix her up
BELLISSIMOOOO.... 💚💪🌎👏👏
practical vs dreamy-cool. . . this is a great project n finish. love it! the drone photography is rather spesh!
I would love to do this! I have a 1973 VW Beetle and love it!
So they removed everything useful. Cool cool.
You always make a good job, I love most of your videos Tanks for sharing us Bryce go on .
It was just awesome
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. :)
Yes
That van is for sure groovy
lovely renovated comby vw.
Looks very cozy!
Simplicity is beauty..
aaahhh Kombi's. My very favourite car in the world.
Love that they are spreading the word of healthy eating and minimalism through sustainability. Great rig but, I'd miss the sink and didn't hear anything about how they handle the hygiene question. Small quarters can make it interesting. Future van dwellers want to know. Good work, as usual.
small footprint normally van dwellers get a membership at gyms where they can shower.
This is amazing. I love these kinds of Volkswagen vans.
Nice Van! Great Video!
Kombi life is best life my god
They really are such great vans! It's hard to beat a Kombi!
Bryce if you make it back to Melbourne, I'll Chauffeur you anywhere you need to go in my Kombi :) it has more legroom than a Limo. I have a spare room for you and your partner if you need also.
