    I'm Catholic and grew up one; but that didn't do shit for me and my depression. I read his book, "The Art of Happiness" and it blew me away.
    This man changed my life.

      I read the art of happiness and it is the best book I ever read, I'm 22 and hadn't read a book from cover to cover in around 10 years but I luckily bought this one and loved it. I signed up again to the library after a similar hiatus but the books I got were rubbish, I felt though I improved myself a lot during the Summer I have stagnated a bit, so that's why I'm on these videos :)
      I am trying to be nicer to everyone, always working on this, trying to respect myself a lot more, trying to be more happy and funny than ever before. And also I am working on myself for in relationships, I have good friends but don't really keep girls around for too long. I attract them by just being funny and witty them things go well but I feel I get too clingy and doubt myself then they lose interest. I am working on this I know it's a problem I want to be able to have a long term relationship not 2 months. Met a girl last night, something may or may not happen but I want to put myself in a happy....

      Position where she would want to be with me rather than me being desperate trying to keep them interested.
      I did exactly what the Dalai Lama said you shouldn't do talking about I and myself there but sorry just needed to get it all out haha. He is amazing.

      I hope you looked at the teachings of Jesus. The teachings are important, Jesus as well as the Buddha lived humbly, had compassion and love for every human being. Their teachings are what will save us. I hope your doing ok with your depression. You can and will beat it!!! I believe in you, and you should believe in yourself.. Good luck Brother!! Have a great night!!!

      Christianity isn't about what you can get to fix you it's what you give to God and be ok with suffering to give...but... I was a buhddist for 10 years before I could come near Christianity with ANY understanding of it. I needed bihddism to stop my anxiety before I could be happy to give as a Christian. I understand maybe a tiny bit but don't be mad at Christianity it has a deep understanding that comes later. Resent nothing . It is holding onto something that will compromise your compassion for Christians

    When loving, generous and giving hearts are taken for granted it hurts tremendously. When you feel used and disposed of like a dixie cup........it hurts. People only want you in their circle when you can serve them. Its a hurtful way of being on the receiving end of that. Its heartless and selfish. It is those that show the most compassion that hurt the most. We share others pain and heartache. We wear those shoes because thars just how we are. Those with third eye sight that use it to their advantage are no good. God.....the almighty energy will see to it that HIS JUSTICE be brought down for it 💜

    nice...very well thought out and insightful...I'm pleased to no end to hear him say were a social animal...for him to use the term "animal" shows that he has understanding of our makeup beyond spirituality and that is very important to anyone's credibility...I was gonna leave a comment saying "does this guy have a facebook fan page?" to rabble rouse a bit but thought better of it...even though spirituality in its purest form is bogus, this dalai lama seems to have more to offer than that

    The Dalai Lama's brand of nicey-nicey, common sense spirituality doesn't help anyone, just repeats the same old tired maxims that everyone is brought up hearing. The truth is that those who are very self-interested, lonely, withdrawn don't suffer from an excess of ego, which they need to reduce by empathising with others, they suffer from too little, the result of which they experience the opinions and feelings of others too much, therefore they have to withdraw to regain a normal sense of themselves. So rather than forgetting about themselves they should go more within themselves, that's why the great sages of old preached meditation and not just nicey-nicey altruism that their modern equivalents preach today.

    • @zootsoot2006
      @zootsoot2006 11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ***** I know Buddhism has two aspects, the ethical and the contemplative, and so being a Buddhist the Dalai Lama would have to respect meditation. But at least in his more public talks he only emphasises the ethical, says very little about the contemplative, which is what opens up the ego and makes truly ethical action possible, rather than just obedience to super-egoic demands instilled in us by the likes of the Dalai Lama and other religious authorities.

    • @tzaeru
      @tzaeru 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Like 3 years late to this, but I'll still throw this out; I think it'd be very difficult to have similar impact on people by talking about mediation and stuff, as would that really be something with which you'd get a lot of people to attend in foreign universities, or even get a place to talk in a foreign university?
      In his Indian residence at Dharamsala, I think he focuses a lot more on teaching the spiritual and meditative side of Buddhism. But in this video, he's talking to a Western audience and he's aware of that. He's wanting to convey as much useful, positive change as possible in very little time. Would talking about the benefits of meditation be as useful in conveying this message of peace and altruism which is what he ultimately wishes to spread?
