Ofcourse modern Buddhism adopts the cultures of each individual nation, thats the brilliant thing about buddhism. The Buddha did not want people to be orthodox, he wanted them to be passionate as a starting point, but not follow his every word and whim. Ajahn Chah, a very orthodox Thai Master says that all the schools of Buddhism are like approaching a city from the North, South, West or East - they all have the same destination. That destination is unchanged from the one the Buddha pointed to.

Buddhism led me to Gnosticism. Buddhism is really a preferable religion for everyone even if they are entitled to other religions. Because this religion speaks directly of what is important. All the fundamentals which leads to happiness, to Nirvana, eternal life, heaven, paradise, whatever one calls it. It is very practical and is less on symbolism compared to other religions which used symbolism to veil their meaning from the religious tyrants of their times.
Buddhism speaks of almost everything which almost all of the great religions of the world speak in a very comprehensible way. It respects all religion and is one with other religion. Buddhism is a very important key of mine becoming a Gnostic.
I highly recommend everyone who seeks spirituality and enlightenment to study Buddhism.

I'm an atheist, but I can still learn wisdom and seek to better myself. Stagnation is failure and to seek peace and simply listen is to grow and become better. Glad I took the time to read all that by the way. Thanks for sharing.

When he refers to enemies he means things like people next door who hate you. Criminals and people who commit crimes against humanity still must be stopped and punished whether you forgive them or not.

When we depend on approval of other, we put our happiness in others ... It's good to help people in need but people donot have limit of receiving, so first we must love ourself then give..... Compassion guided by wisdom is necessary,it gets necessary to speak up when others do wrong to u... I always forgive people but then they take u for granted so boundaries in life is necessary to have peaceful life... In today's world being kind as people for being meek...from now on I will not help everyone as it is exausting but will surely help people who r dere need of love n help... Setting boundaries, applying compassion with wisdom is must cause when we only give ,sometimes we become bitter towards others, so being authentic is necessity..
Practice from loving yourself ,then to pets, then to your enemy....

So I jump ship in Hong Kong and make my way over to Tibet, and I get on as a looper at
a course over in the Himalayas. A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper, a jock. So, I tell
them I'm a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself.
Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald... striking. So, I'm on the
first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one - big hitter, the
Lama - long, into a ten-thousand foot crevasse, right at the base of this glacier. Do you
know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga... gunga, gunga-galunga. So we finish the
eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little
something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any
money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I
got that goin' for me, which is nice.

I am quite sure that His Holiness knows how to forgive those who murder innocent people.. It is extremely challenging for me to forgive those who brutalize, torure, mutilate, and have and continute to annilaten other cultures. You are walking the path, while I keep slippng on my the path. I doubt I will be able to forgive the Regime during this lifetime.

Margot Tibet I know this is an old post. But I believe the "forgiveness" that HH talks about is, "forgiveness with common sense".
For example, these murderers of course do cruel things and it is wrong. But they don't kill and rape you. How can you forgive someone who never do wrong to you?

You don't need to become any thing.
You need to live in the now and understand that all religion is the same you will come to this realization when you are enlightened which you will learn is a journey with many steps of light along the way.
When I say live in the now you must forget the past. as if it never happened so living in the now you realize that the past can’t be changed so don’t let it trouble you it was like an illusions something you watched from afar it had no effect on you hold no guilt hold no grudge for the past. No! would have, could have, and should have.
Now know this, you cannot plan the future. You could walk out your door and get hit with a train.
      So there is no future.
Where do we live?. We live in the now. Now you want to realize this truth you live in the now. There is no past there is no future only now.
After you come to this understanding you will have the first glimmer of enlightenment when you meditate say a prayer of your faith whatever it is.
Let your mind empty out of all thought and just breathe in through the nose and out of the nose don’t use the mouth to breath.
Sit in a comfortable position legs crossed and hands clasped this helps circulate the chi (energy) in the body.
Look at a chart showing the 7 chakras and know where they are in the body for now just know where they are close your eyes.
Don’t think about the chakras don’t think about anything just breathe every time a thought come in your mind just drop it and go back to your breathing just know that you are breathing but don’t do it consciously just let it happen.
The older you are the longer you should do this each day they say 1 minute for each year old you are but longer would be better, there are many charlatans out there looking to make a quick buck.
You don’t need any of them. now do this, while you go out and study the world start with religions and history. Then science and math with you living in the now you will be able to pull everything together with a better understanding you don’t have to learn how to do math you just need to know math read about math from its history the famous men of math and science watch videos read web pages but always make sure that you are reading real things Wikipedia is not real any one can mess with anything there. And there are a lot of bogus teachings. If they ask for money then stay away. True knowledge is not paid for. Hope this helped.
peace be with you, love be with you,
