Hi Adam, yes sometimes the blend flaps do get stuck and i believe that tapplng on the right hand side can free them and you operate the temp switch from hot to cold while tapping the blend module onthe end . Hope this helps you. Regards Tim.😊

I think the reservior threads are reversed because under intense steering maneuvers the cap can work loose, or something like that

Adam, I think one of the 2 blower isn't working, because when both are operational, they are very loud. It is to be confirmed, but I think one is used for heat. If this one isn't turning, then there is no heat. There is a HVAC module, to be accessed by removing the panel in front of the passenger's knees. It is then sideway, kind-of to the right of the radio. Have fun!

Could the heater problem be the pollen filter clogged?

I had this happen to me on my "modern" Mazda 3, but the XJ40 didn't had a cabin air filter back then. Have a great day!

the ONLY reason i can think of for the reverse threads on the cap of that power steering reservoir is that there is at least one OTHER cap in the engine compartment, or elsewhere, that is the same size and possibly color that is used for something else and that the two caps function differently (perhaps a vent hole in one and not in the other?) and they don't want you mixing them up.
if've seen that logic put to good use on a bicycle part made by Campagnolo. the manufacturer made two versions of the same part, one of steel and the other of titanium (for conserving weight) and didn't want the component parts to be mixed up between the two by accident. so they made the threads reversed on the titanium version.

i found that the plastic blend door hinges on my truck's HVAC system were broken such that they were flapping in the breeze, so to speak, and subject to the vagaries of inertia as the vehicle accelerated and decelerated. fixing them properly is a job that will never be done as it involves removing the entire dashboard. so i'm living, until death do us part, without air conditioning in california's summer heat.
...when did they stop making vent windows in the front doors?????

had a crack on nipple on the very bottom of my plastic brake fluid reservoir bottle too. it was on my '67 mk2. the bracket that holds the bottle to the inner wheel well was loose enough to allow the bottle to shake and combined with its age and brittleness it cracked.
the leaking fluid ran down the cloth sleeved hose and it looked, for all the world, like the hose clamp was the culprit. after several failed attempts to tighten and eventually replace the clamp and the whole hose (another dead end) and several bottles of brake fluid, i eventually determined the root cause.
truth was that i was not in any danger of introducing air into the master cylinder as the end of the hose that's attached to the bottle is positioned entirely ABOVE the master cylinder and couldn't introduce air. ...wish i knew that as i was quite anxious upon seeing brake fluid all over the ground every time i stopped the car for a few minutes. not to mention the red light on the dash indicating low brake fluid. geesh!
