  • Watch Episode #1 about the Terroirs of Champagne: • The Terroirs & Sub-Reg... After looking into the fine wines from Bordeaux and Burgundy in previous series on this channel, let’s embark on a journey learning about arguably, or maybe not arguably, the finest sparkling wines in the world. Of course I’m talking about the wines from Champagne. I’m sure you already know Champagne is not a style or a type of wine, right? Champagne is a region in France, just about an hour an hour and half outside of Paris. It’s a cold region with a unique terroir, allowing to produce and craft extremely fine wines as we understand. But what else do you need to know about Champagne? In this series we’re going to cover the different terroirs that make Champagne so unique, the producers, a little bit of winemaking and more so you get, step by step, a general yet detailed understanding of the region and its wines. But first, in todays’ episode, I want to get you to understand an essential part of what makes Champagne what it is, the different grapes they grow and use to make their wines.

I have a WSet Diploma Sparkling exam this week and just watched your six videos on Champagne for some light reinforcement. I found them refreshing, informative and very entertaining. You even made some good points the WSet does not. Thank you!

Thanks Gwen for the feedback. Glad it's useful 🙏😊👍 I passed the WSET diploma a few years ago. Been to Champagne twice since, so I guess I've deepened my understanding a little since. All the best with the exam. I'm sure you'll be fine, it's scary but probably more achievable than you think 🥂😅 take care...

Looking forward to more in depth videos on Champagne.
There is a house in the Aube, Pillot, that makes a 100% Pinot Blanc, fantastic.

Thank you for making the Champagne episodes. I'd like to know how to practice so I can tell the mix in a given bottle? Crisp apple/citrus = Chardonnay, grapefruit = Pinot Noir etc.?

I think Gosset used to blend all seven grapes in their brut, using the four lesser know ones in small percentages. Doesn't look like they do that anymore.
