@@gabbyreads have you ever tried reading true story books because I would love for you to do a series on true story books like memoirs or nonfiction because there’s a lot out there that you could go for and read and be really interested into instead of reading mostly fiction or fantasy or horror or mystery.
I love that David Sodergren made this list!! The Haar has been one of my favorite books of all time, and I’ve enjoyed every other book I’ve read by him - his horror is my perfect type of horror!
The Haar has been on my TBR for longer than necessary. I need to read it. I LOVE that cover. Perfectly Creepy. I have a booktube channel too and have been looking for more horror readers. I read a bit of everything, but horror is my fav!
Hi, Gabby! I enthusiastically agree with your thoughts on Diavola by Jennifer Thorne! I’m just finishing my read of it tonight & it has been riveting! So creepy & spooky, perfect for the season! Highly recommend! 👻👻👻
I'll have to read some of these. When it comes to Fantastic Land, I could believe that happening due to some of things that occurred in places like New Orleans when people decided to stay behind and survive after hurricane Katrina hit. I haven't read this book yet but I have yet to hear anyone bring this book up yet and I just randomly stumbled upon it in a local bookstore and from the blurb it sounds like if you liked The Blair Witch Project you might like this. Its called The Dark Between the Trees by Fiona Barnett. Normally I don't buy paperbacks but I made an exception for this book because it looks gorgeous.
I love that you recommended the night guest!! Hildur was one of my favorite writers as a teenager and i would highly recommend her YA books if you can find them in english:)
I recommend Horrorstor by Grady Hendrix! It’s very unique - it’s a horror book that takes place in a retail store. Some crazy sh**goes down in there, and it’s very scary! The book looks like an IKEA catalog, with store maps and everything. It’s been around for quite some time (I want to say 7 years or so). I could be off on that. But anyway, if you haven’t already read this, I think you should check it out!
I've read The Eyes Are The Best Part which I liked a lot and Diavola was just okay for me. The Reformatory, Chlorine and Monstrillio are some of my favourite books of all time though!
I just read a really good YA Horror/Suspense/Thriller called Bad Graces by Kyrie McCauley. Queer rep for those whom care about that sort of thing. Follows group of young ladies (think they're all older teens) as they shipwreck and land up on a strange island that does weird things to their bodies while they try to survive... reminds me quite a bit of Wilder Girls, so if you liked that book I'd recommend Bad Graces. Beautiful cover too!!
I was loving Monstrilio until the very end. I feel like the author had a very different ending planned but their editor (or who ever makes these choices) made them change it. That ending was incorrect and there's no other way to describe it 😅
I need to dive into horror books after like "The Daughters' War" by Christopher Buehlman - its fantasy horror and I LOVED it. I think its because I loved the main character so much and how she handled all the horror she say and took part in. Highly recommend to anyone that loves fantasy. A girl is in a war and has a pretty much genetically/magically engineered Ravens that really serve as animal companions to the women in the group as they face goblins. There is also family drama and its GAY. lol the audiobook is amazinggg
What does your shirt say in this video Gabby? I could see the ufo and a few words. I put Bury Your Gays on hold at my library. I just recently read Monstrilio and loved it SO MUCH! I think I gave it 5 stars.
Have you read The September House by Carissa Orlando? I just finished it and I really enjoyed it. I felt like there were a lot of layers to the story, and I loved the ending. There is a lot of DV discussion in the book.
I tried so hard with Forgotten Island because of how much people seemed to love it but the way the author was writing the female characters was so damn annoying I couldn’t even focus on or enjoy the monster part of it, every time a female character showed up on the page as a dumb whiney annoying & overly sexualized- where to the extreme you are made aware it’s written by a male author- I found myself sighing and getting more and more annoyed to the point I was distracted & finally DNF half way through. In particular the characters were unlikable. I have read a ton of horror. It’s gotten better in regard to female rep but there is definitely many genres where woman are written really badly! Had the author made the female characters more relatable I would have been able to pay attention to the story & maybe enjoyed it and been able to focus on the monster theme of the book. After reading this one I was afraid to pick up any other book by the same author. I keep wondering how woman can look past that big theme in the book and it’s so liked. And I read a lot of male written fantasy, so I am used to badly written woman, but this book, sigh. Wish I could have enjoyed the monster part of it! Can anyone let me know if his other books have the same representation of women?
I want the night guest to be a movie immediately!!
I’ve read all but 6 of these books and as the ones that I have read are my favorites, I have added those 6 to my TBR just now.
wow that's awesome! I hope you enjoy them too!

You know the book is good when Gabby says, “shit hits the fan” lol
I wasn’t sure I would like The Eyes Are The Best Part but I really enjoyed it!
I loved Fantastic land
Seems like Aardvark is really killing it with their Horror options lately! So many made your list.
Just read The Good House by Tananarive Due, so good! I need to give The Reformatory a try soon.
David Sodergren also writes under the name Carl John Lee, so you might want to check out his other books, too ☺️❤️ I also really loved The Haar!
I been waiting for this video!!!!

It says “for a moment I knew cosmic love” 🥰 and I’m so glad to hear that! Hope you love bury your gays too!
Would think you’d love carrion comfort by Dan simmons
You are my #1 book recommender* lol you never miss, always a hit. ❤also what hair dye do you use? I am looking for a blend of red and brown
Really trying to push myself to read horrors this year. Feeling some FOMO 😂
If I could pick one to recommend it would be The September House by Carissa Orlando.

@gabbyreads - have u read “How to survive a horror movie” by Scarlett Dunmore? I’m, thinking about it & would love to get your thoughts on it. Thanks
❤❤❤
I read díavola, chlorine, The eyes are the best part, and horror movie and I hated all of them😢 they were not scary at all and extremely slow.
The Eyes Are the Best Part was such a HUGE disappointment.
Wow you have such good taste in books!!! (We have the same taste) I now trust you for recommending books ❤️🫶
