    I like what I have seen with President Biden seeming to acknowledge the rules of politics he held dear, honored, and plays by have changed. No need to sink to an abysmally low level, but he needs to reach people who consume news vastly differently.

    Openly strategizing about how "to message" the continuation of lethal aid to Israel in the midst of a genocide really underscores the deplorable nature of the political class and highlights why there is such a profound cynicism when it comes to our institutions. You folks need to do some soul searching. For the children sheltering in Gaza as US weapons rain down around them, staring down famine, there are things much more important than the coming election. I don't know how you sleep at night trivializing human suffering as if it's all just a game.

    • @TheHauntedKiwi
      @TheHauntedKiwi 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Turns out it's hard to message "pieces of children keep showing up on my feed and both parties love it, including the Democratic president"

      I think it’s hard for a political class that couldn’t even admit that war crimes/ethnic cleansing happened in Iraq, to admit that ethnic cleansing is happening in Gaza.
      Americans want at least a 2 state solution and do not want a war in Iran, but elites just don’t get it. Also McGurk was awful about Iraq and Gaza.

    • @anthonymartensen3164
      @anthonymartensen3164 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not to be offensive, but perhaps it's about maintaining some sort of relationship with Israel so that the current order in that general region doesn't completely collapse and lead to something worse. Obviously being the ones supplying Israel weapons in these circumstances is still morally wrong though.

      Okay but we live here now and what should be done? Any dramatic change in treaty responsibilities requires 2/3 Senate approval or a full Congressional mandate.
      If the SCOTUS gives the okay on Presidential “immunity,” Biden can break our treaties with impunity. Until then, Constitutionally, our treaties have authority equivalent to the Constitution itself.

    I met Obama in Chicago when he was a newly elected Senator. I was his personal server at a banquet held by an upscale black organization. They kept him socially busy all night long and I had to make sure he was fed when he was available so I interacted with him all night. At the end he shook my hand, thanked me, and told me I was the best server he ever had. Months later, after he announced he was running for president, I ran into him again at the UIC pavilion at the end of a Chicago Flame game. I was again working catering and was moving a cart in the elevator when a hand stopped the door from closing and in walked Michelle and the girls, two body guards and bringing up the rear, Barack hearding everyone in. When he saw me, he said, "Hey, I know you. You were my server at the University club. I said, "Yes, I was. I heard you're running for President." "I am," he said, "Any advice? "As a matter of fact I had a thought," I answered," "This needs to be the last time you are the last one in the elevator. From now on, you have to let your security bring up the rear." Michelle gave him what came to be known as a trade mark, what did I tell you look. And he smiled sheepishly and said, "duly noted."

    • @littlejerryseinfeld4168
      @littlejerryseinfeld4168 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      occams razor would dictate that he doesnt actually care about that stuff (which seems to be a feature of devout christianity or religion in general - the more devout one is, the more following the morality of whatever religion they subscribe to is optional)
      I think he explains it in the same way he explains everything, with insultingly condescending gaslighting bullshit and because they've formed their own social bubble where their common goal is the opposite of what used to be the common good. Trumpism is the antonym to the concept of the common good.
      Don't pretend to actually know what these people are thinking, but thats what their actions tell me. They're not countering that narrative very effectively or seem to care about trying to, so I have to believe that these people are Machiavellian scumbags.

    Two Australian moderators are needed, as they are actually professional journalists: who know how to moderate and ask proper follow ups, and will not stand for any BS. Sarah Ferguson (from Australia's ABC - who interviewed Sidney Powell to great effect) and Axios' Jonathan Swan. They'll be just as demanding of Biden as of Trump, thereby putting them in stark contrast. US corporate journalists will not do it, except, perhaps Chris Hayes and Lawrence O'Donnell, but they'd be seen by Trump as "partisan".

    I'm surprised by the "even handed analyses" of Netanyahu from Jen Psaki and Tom. I would have been absolutely LIVID if my liberal boss got talked down to by a rightwinger in his own [Oval] office as POTUS Obama had to endure. Israel and America deserved to have had a pleasant conversation between POTUS Obama and someone like Prime Minister Golda Meir, but no. People like Bibi are why we can't good things!

    He can’t interrupt and he doesn’t have an audience. So…he has to answer questions…Trump has no depth on any topic. And, because of his dumb “truths” we pretty much know everything he has to say. “I’ll do it better” with no actual insight on how he would do anything. He literally fell for Team Biden’s trap.

    Re: Iz-Pal messaging for Biden:
    "Terrorism is unacceptable, but so is genocide"
    Call it what it is.
    That's not just good politics, it's world changing speech, if it comes from the president of the United States.
    While the situation is overwhelmingly complex, it is inarguable that the IDF is flagrantly committing war crimes in reaction to Hamas terrorism, and both parties should by any rights be held to account with prudent efficacy.
    If Biden aims accountability at the IDF and Hamas evenly, while championing both the Israeli and Palestinian people, he will not only win the debate and gain massive popular support on both sides, but he'll have a blast-proof position from which to bring renewed leadership to international peacekeeping efforts.
    The optics of shirking this obvious solution are ominous at best.

    Go Joe. We don't have to like everything -- and we won't -- but Biden laid the groundwork for a prosperity for the middle and working classes like no other president in my lifetime (I'm 52). There is much more to do, but Trump would not give us that opportunity. In fact he would make it utterly worse. Christian Nationalists will strip us of every right we now enjoy. Fact.

    I've been curious as to the jury myself. I believe two are lawyers. So I'm wondering if one of them ended up being the foreman. In which having the ability to size up the others and see if there is, a trump plant in the mix. I would truly hate to see a hung jury, after all this prep . Trump would definitely, use that as another, i told you so moment. I was totally acquitted by the jury. Even if only 1, voted not guilty.

    • @3lapsed
      @3lapsed 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      So I agree in general that the debates no longer really serve the purpose they used to a decade+ ago.
      I'm looking at them as a better way for Biden to
      - remind and show people how much of a disaster Trump was/is.
      Too many people have forgotten how bad the Trump years were and don't think he'll really do much if he gets another 4 years. The debates offer a real way to get into those people's faces.
      - Tell people what all Biden has done and accomplished in his first term.
      Lots of people remember the COVID stimulus with Trump's dumb signature on the letter with it. Biden's accomplishments have been much quieter and less boastful.
      If he can accomplish those two things, and a few dunks on Trump and maybe a "would you shut up man", Biden will get his polling up.

    Can the pod please speak more directly to young voters 18-35, some of whom are being myopic regarding this election. This is about saving our democracy and not one (or two) issue(s) (i.e. war in Middle East) they feel strongly about. They get carried away and don't see the big picture. It reminds me of young women voters that didn't appreciate Hillary running for POTUS or back in the day liberals who cared about the environment and voted Nader instead of Gore, so in the end they screwed their cause even more.

      Do you not see that supporting genocide directly undercuts the message of "saving democracy"? All Biden needed to do was actually push back against Bibi and voters wouldn't see him as complicit in genocide. It isn't Pro Palestinian groups that will sink Biden, it's his own slave like devotion to Israel.

    So I'm a New Zealander but watch everything Crooked (and more recently a bit of The Bulwark) but I commented this on a US political comedy podcast I follow:
    "Remember when President Nixon almost derailed the Manson trial because someone (probably a defence lawyer) brought a copy of a newspaper into the courtroom that had a massive headline saying something like "NIXON DECLARES MANSON GUILTY" and the lawyers tried to argue for a mistrial on the basis that some of the jurors (who were sequestered) may have seen the paper and if the POTUS says he's guilty, well then...
    How can the Speaker of The House, second in line to the Presidency, stand outside a criminal court and declare that the defendant (Trump) is innocent of all crimes he is accused of?
    The US is meant to be big on Separation of Powers, right? Like the Constitution and all that stuff Americans are always going on about? That is just outrageous! Nobody in the Executive or the Legislature should be commenting on an ongoing Judicial trial - it's that simple.
    We're not even talking about crimes committed by the President "while in Office" but rather carrying out campaign finance violations to withhold information from the public that may have affected the outcome of a Presidential election and placed the alleged criminal in the White House.
    I don't know who is meant to be calling these people out and warning them - that when you start infringing on the Separation of Powers you're risking placing the Government into a Constitutional Crisis - but the media should be all over this and Johnson should be facing losing his job - where's MTG when you need her?"
    Seriously though - is this not a pretty big deal? Politicians just shouldn't be commenting on ongoing legal cases - don't they usually use that as an excuse for why they can't comment? "It wouldn't be appropriate for me to comment on an ongoing case/investigation" etc.
