    NB: On page 5 on his text, Riddle notes that the condom drew its name from a “Dr. Condom” in the court of Charles II (ruled 1660-85). He cites Norman Himes Medical History of Contraception. However further investigation of the etymology of the term shows that there isn’t a verifiable record of this figure. OED lists the origins of condom as “unknown.”
