This is interesting and it is correct in my opinion. But, it is a study of financial success. That is important, vitally so. I'd love to be more successful financially as an artist. But a successful artist is something separate to that and, it is different for everyone. When you brake art down it is about communication and if you look at artists that communicated in a way that transcended the normal realms of human existence Van Gogh would most defiantly be on the list. However he never sold a painting in his life time. I fear that if we teach artists that success can only be measured in terms of finance, we will continue the decay of art. Too many good artists give up and, our world is the poorer for it. We need to spend more time studying how to stop artists from giving up their practice. Rather than studying the financial market. Although I do recognise that the financial side is a part of the solution.
Why do you think they give up ? Maybe it's because they could be doing a living of their art if they marketed themselves a little bit better, without killing their drive, but people like you come around and say to them "hey, continue living in absolute poverty man, don't be a jerk that can live from its art, yeah, be famous after your death that what real artists do". Come on man
Is this news to people? It's the 1% of the Arts. I prefer the greater swath of painters who are focused on an idea about painting and a love of it, not where it will take them, financially. I love the artists who's work I cannot take my eyes off, not the ones that make me wish I was blind. You can make a reasonable living, very much enjoy your practice and your discourse with colleagues doing the same. The painter who trained me made a pretty good living. Regionally well known, liked and respected. He lived a "rich" and interesting life. You should not feel bad about this video but listen more carefully, it is not about the work you are doing. What this means is, your work is not bad, it's not meaningless and it's worth pursuing. If you are truly interested in painting and it's potential, not your financial gain, this won't thwart you at all.
Well done. Your research confirmed that the art world is cliquey, shallow and exclusive, and success is a result of where you're born and who you know. Who would have thought....

Stark reality. It all depends on with whom you are associated, at what age you started, which curator identified you than what content is created, what genre you invented, and more than all, what does that painting mean when the artist is unknown... If one could christen the art market as something else trading, we would be left with an art world sans all the stupid, bourgeois perfume.
One, of the markings, of a person successful, in any field of endeavor, is the refusal to associate with anyone who tolerates the existence of highly rising buildings. "Woe unto them that join house to house, that lay field to field, till there be no room ...." More about respectability, use TH-cam searching field and keep quotation markings: "Who is Respectable - Kalahari". Listen to Prem Rawat!
No, the pictures are not identical. You asked which I like better. I don't like either. Both are badly exposed. The goal of photography is to make the subject visible. Exposure is good for the foreground in the left picture, but detail is lost in the underexposed distance. The foreground is overexposed in the right picture, but detail is discernible in the distance. A competent darkroom worker would expose accordingly, giving base exposure to the foreground, then burning in the distance.
