I recently learned that Koga and Hana went to high school with Aoyama, the drummer of the Japanese Kami band backing BabyMetal. When Koga was forming the band, Hana was a bassist. It was Aoyama who recommended Hana to Koga. But since Koga was already a bassist, Hana had to learn the drums.
I did hear they have lots of connections with the kami band! Some even theorize that GS could've played for babymetal as babybones but that's a bit of a stretch lol :)
I think the history is a bit twisted though my own knowledge is mostly from searching the internet for the last 15 years. Hana and koga did go to school with the Kami drummer but also with the guitarist who was two years ahead of them and who has been doing a birthday concert with GS for the last decade or so… also wrote a couple of songs for them… As far as I know Hana and koga were bffs through most of high school… Hana was a singer in a band called 12.hitoe but she didn’t play any instruments. When she got to highschool all her friends were in to rock and playing instruments so she quickly became an expert on keyboards, guitar and bass…. Koga went there as a guivere model, call her a 15 year old in moderate amounts of clothing… her agency decide to form a band as a pr stunt. They had a guitarist, a drummer and a girl who thought she could sing.. they talked koga into learning bass so they could create a band called the pink panda.. I’m guessing that Hana taught her since she was self taught and could bring koga up to speed very quickly.. at some point in highschool they put together a band called peace, I think, with koga on bass , Hana on vocals and guitar and a girl on drums and one on keyboards. The drummer came back into the picture a few years back. She had been in a number of bands and started her own which then opened for GS.. she had a cd of peace with the cd cover but no cd unfortunately… For the next seven years Hana played in a few bands while koga and pink panda took off to the point that their management company, brisk crew, dropped their remaining models and just managed the band.. after seven years their pregnant lead singer and their new label decided to change their pop punk style to more of a easy listening lounge singer style of rock… Koga walked… She told everyone that she would never be in a band again… One of the briskcrew people took her aside and told that if koga got a band together she would make sure they managed them. Her name is Sasha/shasha not sure which. Koga told her and it’s been repeated a number of times that she would only create a new band if she could get Hana to join… So no reference needed… As for the instruments. Koga played bass and so did Hana but she played just about everything… Koga knew armmy and Eita… from school… Armmy had a good voice and a rocking body and Eita…played guitar and had been in a band for a number of years. Which leaves Hana on drums… Now whether Hana was a drummer is in some doubt. I’ve been ripped for saying that Hana learned drums for GS… basic the objection was koga had been a professional for seven years and wouldn’t put an untrained person in her band also an interviewer apparently asked Hana when she was in peace what she was going to do after a interview and Hana said that she was going to practice drums and guitar…not that she wouldn’t pick up another instrument but I’m guessing that was just another one of her of all jokes were she gives you straight answer that adds something stupid or impossible… My view is that she new little or no drums before GS because when the girls came to frisco for a concert they were interviewed And asked how they came to play their particular instruments. Koga told her pink panda story and Hana said that when she went to high school all her friends were playing instruments so she learned keyboards, guitar and base… the interview got an odd look on her face and she of course asked why she was playing drums and Hana replyed “Because koga asked me to…” Again no referral needed… It is possible that a certain drummer of the Kami band may have written the brokenhearted song… we know that koga said that first year that Hana wrote most of the songs but koga wrote the music for lock on several years earlier and that someone from a very successful group gave them broken hearted… Also koga said that one of her friends helped Hana with arrangements that first year…
@@donkorte80 Thanks for this write-up :) On the Gachabon/Fanclub DVD 2016 is a video of Koga's history. She and Hana (and others) had "cosplay metal band" Heian at the end of Koga's high school years, where Hana already played the drums.
@@donkorte80 The project with Koga and Hana when they were at school around 2003/2004 was called Heian, Hana was on drums in that project - in an interview she mentions that she pushed herself much harder on drums once starting Gacharic Spin though The pink outfit Koga wears in the DOLL$BOXX Take My Chance video is from the DVD Heian made for their final concert, the whole band wore that same outfit
Replying to several comments here: Hideki Aoyama, Koga and Hana went to the same arts high school and played together in various high school activities, and I'm not sure Aoyama would have had to "recommend" Hana to Koga. Hana learned piano growing up and studied piano, guitar and drums in high school. She said seeing Aoyama on drums was the impetus to study drums. Hana didn't play bass until she was in the band Straight Flush (later renamed Armeria) with Aoyama, at Aoyama's suggestion. She played drums in Heian with Koga. Although she was initially a vocalist with 12.Hitoe she did later play some guitar with them. The guitarist who has annually done a birthday show with GS (several of which I've been to, including the most recent) is Takayoshi Ohmura--like Aoyama played in Babymetal's Kami Band--and he's not a graduate of the same arts high school, although Ohmura, and also bassist Boh of the Kami Band, have been invited by Aoyama to give seminars at the school.
They are awesome squared!
