Hi ray I understand where your coming from with the copper tiles, but I just can’t afford real copper sheet. I’m self employed and haven’t worked in 3 months with the COVID-19 outbreak. And the cost to just run the channel is over a month isn’t cheap. With very little back from TH-cam, That’s why I opened the Patreon account. So viewer can support the channel. Hope you understand because I really want to move this victory build forward. And the coppering section was slowing the build down.

Aha, the copper tiles. And again i see a lot of work coming up! In the time a started my build i hunted Ebay, Germany in this case to gain the issues for the build and decided to spend a specific ammount of money. I ended up buying sort of "leftovers" from ebaysellers often paying 1 or 2 euros per issue. It took me a year to do so but never succeeded to make a succesfull offer on the tiles. Meanwhile the Deagostini seller in the Netherlands went bankrupt so i couldn't obtain them from them anymore. I did have a lot of 0,5 mm by 7 mm leftover wooden strips. I cut them in to pieces the same way you did here and glued them on the hull with whiteglue. I used a thinpointed pensel to draw the nailholes on the tiles and painted them with Humbrol copper coloured paint. In the end it worked out fine. Only thing i have to do are the parts close to the rudder but at that moment i was out of strips. Fortnately recentely i was able to buy some again in a stash of parts so i can finish the job! Goodluck with you work on the tiles!

Again very useful Thanks 3500 Tiles required for 1:78 (Scale)
John The tiles should be overlapped from the stern for'ard and up.
If you DONT mark the nails on the top and back of the tiles you can efectivly mae them "Look" as though they are overlaid
You will need to make Left and right
I use ZAP CA place the tiles on and drop a drop of CA under the top of the tile
Incidentally Amati make pre laid tiles that can be laid in batches
Caldercraft make tiles and so do Mantua
Though tiles can with the kit ofr are they an extra

Thank you for your comment Richard. I’ve been reading the Anatomy of Nelsons Ship thoroughly, studying the section of coppering the hull. I’ve seen that manufacturers sell the copper plates but I didn’t want the extra cost onto the build.

It looks good John . It definitely looks cleaner then glueing individual tiles like I did , CA glue made a mess LOL. Also the tape look may more flexible and easier to conform to the hull . I am curious on how well the sticky tape will hold up in the long haul.

Hi Sal, hope your well, I thought you would be interested in this uploaded. I also curious about how the tiles hold up over time,

John, what is the name of the wheel that you use on the copper strips to make the copper plates? Ray

This looks like a very realistic copper plate.
Did you stack two copper tapes on the side of the ship?
And is that the point of this work?

I assume that the tape applied to the paper (?) is for illustrative purposes only. Am I correct? I did not see them being used elsewhere.

Great video and nice technique. I'm in the middle of the Victory build also, and their order of doing things is ridiculous. Like you, I'm changing it up. I've never done the tape idea, and it looks promising. I built a Cute Sark using copper tiles (Sergal's old kit, I sat on it for years then finally go to it), I thought I would go insane using the CA and accelerator. Some calls to Franklin and experiments showed that Titebond II will bond copper tiles to wood. I'm concerned the tape won't hold permanently, especially when it's being touched by hands, contaminating the adhesive. Any thoughts on how permanent the tape will be? I'm not looking forward to another 4000 tile job, even with Titebond this time. Your skill is really impressive.

Hi Daryl thank you for your comment. In the later videos. Where I’ve started to fit the copper tape tiles and I talk and show the holding power of the tape I’ve been very impressed so far
