He had said that they were "paid" with the world's most expensive sardines. I can totally believe that. The man had a pet anteater - that he walked on a leash!
You missed in the video where the Dali painting was "photoshopped" in by today's standards of photo manipulation and verbiage. Narrator used the word "collage in" (4:30). Though both acts are the same. Photo editing applications today are no different than using a dark room during the film area. Different medium, same application.
This is a stop motion technique in photography and a performance art by Dali and captured in photography. Nowadays, artists and photographers don't have to subject cats thrown by humans with water that's near animal abuse in today's standard, although I think this is a genius idea of the photographer coz I love cats and Dali. Compromise from duck explosion (total animal cruelty). And collage means cut and paste technique of Surrealist, like Exquisite Corpse.
Dali /Halsman two genious working together. Tks a lot to uplad this uncredibble document. For the history of the Photograpy and tha suralistic era. Tks again
Dali loved cats, lots of artists do... and think of cats jumping out to escape water ... compromise from exploding duck (animal cruelty! But imagining is hilarious and free to do so) I knew about these photography but didn't know about the photographer Halsman, for Life Magazine never read it (I am Japanese and live in UK) I wonder Why Time magazine made this video? Anyway, I love Dali, and cats!!
Don't feel too bad for those cats. According to an article in _Games_ Magazine in 1984, each of those felines was well-rewarded for his work in preparing that portrait--receiving a plate of "ridiculously-expensive Portuguese sardines" to eat. :)
I love Dali, and I love the photographs, But I'm sorry, that's practically animal abuse chucking cats around like they. They Threw them 27 times. And got them wet and then dried them. Really cruel to be honest,
I love dalì and his work but this was cruel to cats.i've heard they were rewarded with expensive sardines but how does that make anything less cruel? He even wanted to blow a duck if he could!he was in fact cruel to animals seems like he didn't care at all! Imagine your mom throwing you here and there when you were a kid for 26 times then gave the most expensive food you like, would that make the harm done to you any less?didn't think so.
A world masterpiece of photo-surrealism! Repeat this is impossible...
Brilliant people of the century. I’m so lucky to hold Halsman sight and insight photo book in my hand now
Water? 26 times? Cats musta been reaaally pissed, scratching the hell out of people for throwing them around like that.
He had said that they were "paid" with the world's most expensive sardines. I can totally believe that. The man had a pet anteater - that he walked on a leash!
We are watching a video of a photograph of a painting.
We are looking at atoms being rearranged in a magnificent fraction of life, and soggy moggies.
Now this is art! The true meaning of Art Collaboration. Nothing beats to this against the recent photo editing applications or Adobe photoshop.

And calming the cats what probably has been hard... Awesome to hear the story from the daughter!!

👂to Stephen Darby and Tony Evans.
Song name please.
Poor cats 🐈 hopefully none of them were hurt. I’m not sure why they couldn’t have been “collaged” into the photo like the painting was? 🤷🏻♂️
Arrogantly brave to think the photographer is collaborating at the same level than Dali...
😲! Suspended in time forever. Kind of like being at a funeral with an open casket.
poor cats
It’s “Philippe”, one “l” and two “p”s
