One modification to this could be to prod/loosen the material from a more distant point using a longer pole - this could decrease the risk of the material falling more directly on top of him...

It's proved to reverse desertification, contribute to abundant clean water, eventually negating the need for food programs in the areas it's implemented and reduces greenhouse gasses (methane from cattle not being an issue due to higher carbon and methane absorption from desertification that the cattle produce). Granted it's not high tech or heavy in cost that politicians prefer but continues to make a difference.

The boards are there to cover the conveyor belt slot, otherwise there would be too much weight on the belt for it to operate.
