This scene is from the 1965 movie "The Battle Of the Bulge" which starred Robert Shaw,Henry Fonda,Robert Ryan,Dana Andrews, Telly Savalas, George Montgomery, and Charles Bronson. It was the first offensive launched by the Germans.
And the film was horrible. A story about the Battle of the Bulge and it used all fictional names for key players on both sides, totally botched the so called Malmedy Massacre at Baugnez crossroads, and never included anything about Bastogne. Understand they may have wanted to present the battle in a more encompassing story than just Bastogne, but they should have at least presented a historically accurate story line of the battle. When I first saw this movie I just shook my head!
Are those small American tanks meant to be M24 Chafees or Shermans? Did they use Chafee tanks in the Battle of the Bulge? And was that M47 meant to represent a Tiger Ausf B Konigstiger tank or a Panther tank?
The Germans by a stroke of fortune struck the inexperienced 106th "Golden Lions" Division and the 99th Division, defeating both and inflicting heavy casualties. The 106th ended up losing 2 out of its 3 brigades. After the battle, the U.S. Army reconstituted the ill-fated 106th but it never saw combat again, being deployed to guard the massive numbers of surrendering German soldiers. The 106th became the subject of a successful book, "Death Of A Division".
@EasyCompanyAirborne that's sorta harsh to say... I mean it took the whole world to bring Germany down. Germany was being bombed 24/7, everyone was seeing their own family being blown apart. And then you get letters saying 'your son/father/husband/brother/daughter/sister was killed in action and their last words were"". Being blown apart for 6 years and hearing 'untrue' facts about allied atrocities made alot of German people turn insane.
The tiger tank has several weaknesses like it is a gas guzzler, weak armor at the back and bottom of the tank among others which the Americans exploited to the max.
what the? those tigers must have chased the retreating americans for a long time. One minute they are in the ardennes, next minute it looks like they are in the scottish highlands
What the heck was Telly Savalas doing engaging German Mark V Panthers (OK, they're really US Patton tanks) with M24 Chaffee light tanks intended for reconnaissance, screening, and flank security? The M24 used a low velocity 75mm cannon. Its frontal glacis armor was something like 1.5 inches thick; I could be wrong, maybe at best 2 inches. It was no match for the Panther's long-barrel, high-velocity 75mm cannon which could stop even Red Army T-34/76 and T-34/85 tanks. What should have been there include M4AE Sherman tanks, M10 and M36 tank destroyers. None were shown. The M24 Chaffee was just entering the ETO in November 1944 and would not have been in Belgium in any quantity. The M24's predecessor, the M5A1 Stuart light tank would have been present in greater numbers. The movie describes the Battle of the Bulge at division level. In the history books the conduct of the Ardennes Offensive and the American response are usually detailed at operational, corps-level. All the American divisions were involved in the fight as a group.
Wrong text. It is: Hitler took a big gamble to turn the tide. As in 1940, he used the Ardennes area to surprise the enemy. It was weakly defended, and after the defeat of Arnhem the Allies were pulled too much to the north. By attacking in the Ardennes, Hitler cut in between the American and the British armies, and aimed to push his tanks to Antwerps, to cut off supplies and isolate the entire British army north of the line. It nearly succeeded.
The Allies by this time knew the American M9 bazooka and the British PIAT were obsolescent. The Americans started work on the new bazooka, the M20, 3.5-inch Super Bazooka, but it would not be ready until much later after the war. The G.I.s would have been better off using captured German Panzerfaust 60s or Panzerfaust 100s.
*Battle* *of* *the* *Bulge* need to remake the movie of the best tank battle in history. We hoping the real German tanks... hope they restored some... even if it takes time *its* *worth* *waiting* just like some features/qualities of Fury and T-34 :-)
Allied tanks are Walker bulldogs (a light tank), German tanks are M-48's (used in the late 80's and early 90's as targets on Gunnery ranges. No Soviet or German tanks used in this movie
The american tanks are m24 chafee no m41 walker bulldogs. And the german tanks were m 47s. All were spanish army tanks. That scenes were filmed in Madrid.
He was probably being polite. The reality was different. When the brave Americans stormed into Germany, they were surprised to find themselves greeted by seas of white (cowardly) flags. Could you imagine this happening in the US? No. Americans never surrender. I will say that for the Swiss also. They are the only nation which truly stood up against the Germans and made surrender illegal. Now that takes guts.
@DeathFeast16 The numbers were greater at Stalingrad, but Easy Company was a force of only 200 men under a major, the most famous soldier in history, Major Dick Winters. Like Audie Murphy, he held up the entire German Army. No Soviet ever did that.
At 2:30 the scream the American makes when he's shot and run over by the tank I laughed so hard at that part, whom ever did the scream dubbing for this movie has the most blood curdlingly hilarious screams ever Lol.
I've seen older RUssian movies somehow made a whole bloody division of real looking Tiger tanks advance across the snow, why do they use unreal German tanks on here? I thought it was newer.
This film, which I loved as a child, seems so outdated to me today! 🤣 First of all, the American tanks used by the Germans, do not look at all like tigers and panthers IV and V. The noise of the weapons is ridiculous. Looks like a Hollywood western from the 50s! 🤣 And then, the caricature of the SS officer who sing panzerlied while going into battle, my god! 😱🤣 WWII movies are more tied to historical reality these days!
@DeathFeast16 We are talking facts here. The Germans could never stand and fight like men against the magnificent American soldier like decorated combat hero Dick Winters. The American soldier is the exact opposite of the German - resourceful, brave, kind, humble and of course good looking.
oops, I could have sworn they were M-48's (should have said patton tanks) and I got the chaffees and buldogs wrong also.. Not to good for a tanker!! I shall go to the penalty box and feel shame.
Swiss? WTF are you talking about? The un-neutral neutral? Go back through your statement and collect your thoughts and them when you're ready I'll explain to you where you are wrong. And yes Afghanistan's are very brave especially when they have American Stingers surface to air missiles to shoot down Red Army Hind attack helecopters.
@EasyCompanyAirborne hahahaha, the toughest battle? you watched too much Band Of Brothers, seriously this is hollywood even if they say its a realistic production, its not, its just hooray! and boom! just like this movie we got here. the hardest battle ever fought by human was the battle of stalingrad were people actually started to become cannibals by eating other humans to survive 750,000 people died there: 150k germans and 500k russians if you count the wounded its 1,971,000 casualties

The tiger gets the credit for the most feared tank.....but I think the panther was way more scary to face since it was way more mobile

Nowadays if a division loses 20% of its manpower it’s basically done.😅
Henry Fonda in the movie won the war all by himself.
@russfromdodge You mean from Battle of the Bulge ? Kelly,s Heroes is a way different movie
Hey even the Germans can appreciate American quality and craftsmanship!
@EasyCompanyAirborne that's sorta harsh to say... I mean it took the whole world to bring Germany down. Germany was being bombed 24/7, everyone was seeing their own family being blown apart. Why are the German tanks advancing THROUGH THE WOODS without infantry support? They were willing to take casualties - but they weren't stupid.
The tiger tank has several weaknesses like it is a gas guzzler, weak armor at the back and bottom of the tank among others which the Americans exploited to the max.
@sgttord they're actually American M46 tanks. the "Shermans" are M24 Chaffees
what the? those tigers must have chased the retreating americans for a long time. One minute they are in the ardennes, next minute it looks like they are in the scottish highlands
The Germans never took Bastogne the 101st held till Patton arrived!
@russfromdodge I think you mean "kelly's Heroes" and no, this is not from that movie.
That german in the tank is the head off of fritz kolleher ?

I only saw the German Tank Crews roasting on the gas covered road!
By the time this movie was made they was only 1 functional Tiger tank left in the world so they used M-47 pattons instead.
There was no functional Tiger when the movie was made. And today there are only 1 tiger I functional.
For those of us who are into scale modeling, those "german" tanks are a shame.
The movie was made in Spain. The movie company had to use what was available.
When he said tigers 1 o'clock and it was a Patton I clicked the video away
"Patton" was official name of M46, M47, and M48 XP

I just wanna say, I, a picture of an actor who played Ronald Spiers of Eagle Company, do not endorse your words. The Germans were a brave enemy.

@SSvolksgrenadier those are American-built M-47s.
Great movie, except, they weren’t using the right tanks

Chaffee light tanks. American tanks WW 2 vintage.

thats not a Tiger that looks like a Patton.
It shows the American guys in action against the Germans. It shows who the real class act was - Winters, Patton, Brad and co.
I guess Eddie didn't hit em hard enough.
That was a hard one also. There were no Americans at Stalingrad.
The tank kill ratio only thing this movie got right. For rest should be banned lol
