    YES YES YES on taking off the derailluer and hanger. I bent a hanger one time on byway ti try, trying to get another one in one day was the most stressful thing. Also you remove the derailleur you show it still on your bike.

    I have travelled with my old P5 with this bag for 8 years.The reality of a soft bag is as follows: every time you put your bike on the plane, you are at the mercy of baggage handlers as the bag WILL NOT protect your bike for many foreseeable risks. If the bag is dropped or stacked under heavy luggage, all bets are off. Kona 2017 my bike arrived with the headset pushed out 30 degrees of center. I was fortunate it did not break the extensions, and the headset, or the fork drop outs. As I have a Speedmax SLX Disc, I need a new bag. I'm heavily leaning towards a Bike Box by Alan now that they have a triathlon version that, like this Scicon bag, requires removing the wheels, pedals, and for riders over 180cm, the rear derailleur. Scicon wins on cost by a wide margin; ONLY buy it for half price as it is routinely offered at this price. Great video and keep at in on your tri journey!

      @Darren C. Did you get the Bike Box Alan? I have the same worry that you have about the bag handling. My only concern about the Bike Box Alan is potentially the amount of space it may take up in the car when you get to the destination.

    Great bike, used the case on a flight my Canyon handle bars ended up sideways 30 degrees. I loosened the front stem bolts and realigned, but anything I should be worried about?

    • @gregstrijourney
      @gregstrijourney  ปีที่แล้ว

      Something similar happened to me on one flight before. Just ensure nothing is cracked otherwise you should be all good. Anytime the bike comes out from the baggage carousel I open it immediately on the spot to inspect to ensure nothing is damaged and if there were any issues I could address it on the spot at the airport with the airline

    How well do these bags protect against compression? ie it being squished by other bags cases etc. I used to travel with a hard/eva type case with my mountain bike. I literally watched baggage handlers lobbing the bag onto the conveyer belt at LAX from the plane window one time. The stand within the bag looks amazing! Like you say it's used by all those other big names so must be good enough. Thanks for the videos they are really good.

      I've got a Ruster Sports Hen House which is, dare I say, less protected than this, haha! But not really. Instead of bubble wrap I use pipe foam. My bag requires that I take the cockpit, fork, seat, and wheels off. Additionally I have to loosen the crankset and then align the crankarms with each other while also taking off the chainrings. Lots of straps hold everything together so nothing rattles during transport. The first time or two I flew with it I was nervous that my frame would be ruined during transit or from some jackass baggage handler as I fell into the trap of hating on soft cases (my previous was a Thule clamshell hard case) because they don't seem to have any support. What I learned with my Ruster is that the case will actually dissipate a lot of the forces onto itself as they have pretty good tensile strength by themselves. The bike inside actually works as more of a skeleton to give more support to the bag. The pipe foam helps keep the parts from rubbing on each other while also absorbing some of the impacts that the bag itself doesn't take care of. All in all, I wouldn't be nervous about traveling with this type of bag. My only beef is the costs as I don't have to pay any extra costs with mine 🙂

    Great video! My only comment is for those with tubeless tires, deflating all the way is likely a bad idea.

    • @laurapiovan
      @laurapiovan ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. But I wonder if the wheels will fit in those side bags if they are not entirely deflated?... do you have any experience with this bag and tubeless tyres?

      Hi Aponax, it’s custom made from a friend of mine who owns a decal company and does vinyl application. I’m certain theirs places online that have something similar

    How have you like the bag so far? I'm looking to get this same bag for my TT bike for an Ironman event in a few months. I'm also considering the BikeBox Alan. Thoughts in terms of protection and easy of use when traveling.

    What’s the width of your base bar? My Cervelo is 17.5”, and I wondering if it will fit without issues. Also, do you for see there being an issue with an oversized rear derailleur's pulley system? Thank you and great video

    Hey, what do u think about the point that you barely can fit this into a normal car? How big is it in real life? When I want to travel to a hotel do you think there can be any problems? Thanks in advance.

  • @TrickyDickyBE
    @TrickyDickyBE 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Surprised you didn’t have to do anything to disassemble with the handlebars. They are reasonably wide and an obvious point of contact when being transported around. Most bike bags are designed for the the cockpit to be removed and secured to the frame of the bike. Any thoughts about how easy that is to accomplished with this Speedmax? Cheers.

    • @gregstrijourney

    • @TrickyDickyBE
      @TrickyDickyBE 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gregstrijourney I appreciate you can fit it in your bag but that doesn't mean there's no lateral crushing risk. Just for added caution I will remove the bars and strap them to the frame using the original foam pad and Velcro that the bike was delivered with from Canyon. Am flying next week so will do this then. All that's needed is undoing the 4 black bolts on the stem face... cheers!

    Thanks this is a great video. I am looking to get the same luggage for a Speedmax. Any idea if the kickr would also fit... or does anyone have a solution to transport both bike and trainer?

    • @gregstrijourney
      @gregstrijourney  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Mark! Appreciate you tuning in. The Kickr would most certainly not fit in this luggage. I’m not familiar with anything that would contain both for travel. That would also be something quite heavy I’m sure!

    Hi Greg just a quick question. It is about the travel bag, is it considered a luggage or considered a sport luggage and will pay a fee since it is considered an oversize bag since airline only allows 62 inches dimensional? Thanks

    • @gregstrijourney
      @gregstrijourney  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is considered oversized luggage/bag

    Really brave trusting the airlines with your bike. They've destroyed car seats and strollers of ours and I wouldn't dare hand my bike to those animals to toss in a pile under the plane.
