- Tocher Ridge Fire Lookout is in a remote corner of Yoho National Park. The ridge was named after long-serving park warden Jock (John) Tocher (pronounced 'talker'). Its location for a fire lookout in 1966 was chosen as it had the perfect vantage over the Amiskwi River Valley. Unfortunately the lookout was only manned for 6 years before abandonment in 1972.
Access requires a 14km bike ride through seldom maintained forest trail followed by a grueling 6km hike with an elevation gain of approximately 1000 metres - difficult to accomplish in one day.
You really love your trips to the fire lookouts and I enjoy coming along.
It's hard to think of a better adventure. The lookouts are often remote with a complex logistical puzzle to crack. The reward is a guaranteed 360 view on a summit somewhere.
When you said you were 6 hours into it and then still had a little bit to go, I was thinking that was going to be a rough time on the way back, lol 😅 but you slept over so that makes it much more do-able 😊
Great hike!
Would have needed a helicopter return if couldn't sleep over 🤣
I really wanna do something like this. Really nice video.
Thanks, you should do it! Experiences that stick with you for a lifetime.
@@LifeIsAdventureChannel I don't have time and can't afford it unfortunately. I hope one day i can do. Thanks for your kind words! I subscribed to your channel. Keep it up! Have a nice day.
I was up 2 years ago! Looks like the windows had some repair...?
Your trip was my inspiration! Thanks! There were some cracks in some windows - I put some tape on them.
@@LifeIsAdventureChannel awesome!!! Glad to hear on both counts. It was grueling getting to lol but the trip back was great. Are you ever going to to Three Fingers, in Washington?
Just in my dreams so far. It looks incredible.
