Originally I-255/I-244/I-270 when built in the 60's and early 70's as a four-lane freeway with diamond and cloverleaf interchanges. Illinois completed the I-255/270 loop in the 90's. It's changed a bit since then. Also a good idea to have it just 'St. Louis County' instead of the two dozen suburbs the highway goes through in Missouri. The Chain of Rocks II bridge (1968) at the Mississippi is to be replaced and Illinois is planning, someday to make it six lanes to a reconfigured 55-70-270 interchange. Wait for it. Keep waiting.
