On Mr. Freeze's character in this episode, Paul Dini had stated "I think I was the one who came up with the idea that Freeze was out to deprive innocent people of whatever they loved. That made him into much more of a villain. It stripped him of whatever sympathy or nobility he had, but it also made him more dangerous and frightening. Not a bad trade-off. I didn't mind using him again as long as we found something other than Nora for him to obsess about. As long as he couldn't have anyone to love, he wanted to deprive others of that, too."
Honestly, while Nora is the best thing they did for making Freeze a tragic and memorable character after the joke that he was in the comics, I do appreciate the writers trying to make him a proper villain. The Nora storyline should be the start of his villainy but he should be more than just that.
Some people don’t like it, but I actually like Freeze just going off the rails after Nora moves on. Shows that while he was well intentioned at first, his love has ultimately become possessive and toxic
Honestly I appreciate it for making him a proper villain again. The ‘anti-hero’ thing was getting kinda boring. Besides, it also says all lot about Freeze. There was no way he could have been content with just curing Nora, he would have wanted to spend his life with her. But when he couldn’t and even his body was gone, he lost his mind completely. His life is tragedy.
The tie-in comics (Batman: Gotham Adventures) has an extremely fitting ending to Fries and Nora's relationship. I really wish that those comics had been adapted into episodes. They would have ended up as some of the series' best.
Mr. Freeze's next and final appearance in the DCAU is the Batman Beyond episode "Meltdown", where his head is being kept in storage by Wayne-Powers. How this came about is not explained in the animated continuity, but an extended version of the tie-in comic Batman Adventures (Vol 2) #15 script explains that the head was acquired by Derek Powers's father.
I wish they expanded more on him going from sympathetic villain to cold and ruthless, but despite all the hatred for it, I will always LOVE the "he's been reduced to a head" aspect.
Its pretty intense for batman to just strap freeze to the bomb like that lol and I like the art style it matches Superman the animayted series, batman Beyond and the Justice a shows hope you guys react to those too and Static Shock
This episode continues the tragic downfall of Mr. Freeze, the continued character development for Freeze the DCAU has done made him from a Joke to Tragedy. The collective jaw drop was great.
Fries is definitely one of the most tragic characters on the show. He lost the love of his life, he lost his body, he lost his sanity… all he is is cold now.
I massively prefer Mr. Freeze from Heart of Ice and Deep Freeze. He is the most sympathetic villain of all time. This episode betrayed all of that for nothing. Not to spoil anything but watch Batman Beyond.
Did it betray it or just go in a different direction? Plus I don’t really blame them for going this direction after Sub-Zero completely destroyed Freeze’s previous motivation without their knowledge
Freeze as a head with spider legs always made me think of Tim Curry's character from the Mask animated series who was a mad scientist whose head could detach from his body and had little mechanical spider legs.
This episode divided fans on mister freeze, Because we got to see him again but it also undid someone the development that he went through in his last couple appearances, I know that what happened to him was tragic not having to think he loves most his wife, Then Going Out to other people to make sure that they suffered the same way he did still, Mr. Freeze from Batman. The enemy that series was the best version.
A lot of people dislike this episode for “betraying” Freeze’s motivation but I like it for a different approach. I also can’t blame the TNBA team for doing it because they were kinda screwed over. They’d known from the beginning that they were gonna do another Freeze episode, and I think may even have been in the middle of production, when Sub Zero came out and without their knowledge or consultation completely solved his previous motivation.
I HATED the animation change as a kid. I believe it lead to ending the series earlier. Now I appreciate it as a departure from tones and making it a little more fun in it's later season. Nightwing stuff is GOLD
my guess, the disease must have spread after he injured his leg in the Subzero film and never healed, instead...fell off as well as the rest of his body.
After Season 2 of Batman: The Animated Series, you should have started watching the Superman: The Animated series because the reason why the art style changed in the third season of Batman was because of the Superman: The Animated series.
This is the one episode I can say I absolutely hate. Subzero was a great conclusion for the character, but here Freeze is literally just a petty asshole. Him being reduced to a head is just too ridiculous to take seriously and just, why the hell does he have henchwomen? It really does not fit this character. Maybe had Nora actually died the plot could had worked better but as it is, it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth
"He can't be heartbroken he has no heart he is just a head." that isn't how emotions work! although people use expression like heartbreak, all emotions happen in your head. the heart is just a muscle for pumping your blood around your body. actual broken hearts require pacemakers to stop you dying.
Fries was always a POS we just empathize because of Nora He's a loser and petty always has been and now without it's anchor of morale (he was still pretty fucking evil even when nota was around lmao) people see him without the rose colored glasses I love it and a lot of people hate it that's what it makes it so good
I fucking hate this episode. Do not like how it just exists to undo SubZero, do not like how it undoes Nora's character. BUT I will say that the spider-head design rocks.
There’s a bit of wiggle room where you could say him being just a head made him lose it, but yeah I agree. He went from a deep character who’s kinda a villain but also he just wants to save his wife to a straight up villain villain that just wants to hurt everyone because he’s hurt. Even Arnold’s freeze is better written. I wonder if the writers wanted his story to end but WB wanted him back.
@@JKBlackClover Bruce Timm infamously hated SubZero so he specifically had this episode made to undo its ending. But he later admitted that it was a mistake to make him such a villain so his future appearances tried to undo SOME damage.
how does it "undo" Nora's character? i mean she literally doesn't even have character. She's never appeared unfrozen in BTAS outside of tie in comics. Edit: shes essentially just been a plot device in the show so far. This episode is the first time shes actually given anything outside of just being the person Freeze wants to save.
I absolutely agree. I like the shock factor of freeze just being a head in a jar, and it provided a hilarious reaction here with the Blindwave crew, but I feel it makes more sense in the Batman Beyond continuity down the road. That episode is a much better final episode for Freeze IMO.
Blind Wave BEYOND Members and Raw Rider Patrons can watch the Full Length Reaction HERE: blindwave.com/video/batman-the-animated-series-3x03-full/
That jaw drop reaction when it’s revealed Freeze is a spider head was brilliant you could say it was “chilling “.

So long as they don't pull that crap in that The Batman series years later.
Not a fan.

Exactly 💯💯
Exactly 💯💯💯
he was always an obsessive maniac that should be medicated or in jail, nora just made it sympathetic
I wanna say the Batman Adventures comics game him a few stories that showed he still cared but kept away from her once she was saved.

Their reaction to Freeze just being a head was hilarious lmfao
😂
Mr. Freeze being reduced to a head is crazy. The man had a full blown breakdown and was just leashing out by destroying people’s hopes was depressing.
LAST APPEARANCE ACTUALLY IS IN BATMAN BEYOND

What are you doing??
Don’t spoil it for them
Why spoil?
@@Mercurial_Phantom i dont know maybe just are trolling
@@mauricioaguilarpineda8913 it’s so they can be surprised that freeze comes back one last time instead of the reveal being spoiled

Hopefully they’re all in the poll for the show after this. At least Batman Beyond and Superman.
I didn't like the Regression of Freeze, at first, but the episode really won me over by the end.
This episode continues the tragic downfall of Mr. Freeze, the continued character development for Freeze the DCAU has done made him from a Joke to Tragedy. The collective jaw drop was great.
"I'm the darkness, I'm the night
I am Badman"
There is a lovely comic set in this continuity that kinda gives him a Nora a good ending key word is kinda tho
I’m sad Eric missed the shot of Bruce’s reaction after Tim said “watching you” because he was writing his notes. It’s so funny 😂
Fries is definitely one of the most tragic characters on the show. He lost the love of his life, he lost his body, he lost his sanity… all he is is cold now.
Yo Mr. Freeze SAVED his love Nora,
In today's media- he's a hero.
Punisher probably took out more ppl,
The POWER of perception
Mr freeze is back again
"DA ICE AYGE!!"
I guess scientifically that would make sense that all of Victor's organs would stop functioning due to his subzero condition 🤔

The original show had the same inconsistency with the eyes. It’s less of an inconsistency and more of different eye styles on different people.

Not a well-liked episode, making a bad impression by undoing Subzero and regressing Freeze's motivation to pure spite over his own misfortunes.
Once Nora got better healthy and Married her Doctor Victor Mr Freeze lost his Humanity and didn't have much to live for anymore.
