    Hi Jake👋
    Thank you for grinding out my stumps. All 16 of 'em.
    If anybody in or around Beaver County Pa needs a stump taken out, Jake is the guy for the job! And if you need trees cut or removed, Leatherneck tree service is excellent for that! All good people! As long as these guys are in this business, I wouldn't use anyone else! Thanks again Jake!
    p.s. I hope the dogtags are still holding up!
    Eric

    Good video. I am 58 and did my first tree job at 14! I own a landscaping business actually but do a fair amount of tree work. I have 2 handlebar units for 25 years and finally bought a rg-37. Employees were revolting when we ran into really large stumps. At $40k thinking of taking on some extra jobs. I try to have my equipment pay for itself. I probably should have just been subbing out the larger stumps a theses years. Lol

    Don't knock on the handle bar units too much sometimes can't get bigger stump grinder to the stump especially in Southern California. I have 3 different stump grinders,
    1st Alpine Magnum stump grinder, the smallest can walk through a house if I need to and have or a steep hill side
    2nd Rayco rg 25hd handle bar unit. Can get through as small as a 29 inch gates and great for tight turns and walk ways.
    3rd Vermeer 252 great for 36 inches or bigger gates . This machine I would like to replace with a Rayco rg 45 or bigger that I can still get through a 36 inch gate.

      Handle bar units definitely have a place in our world. I sold mine simply because it took up space and rarely got used. It is cheaper for me to rent one than own it for as much as I use it.

    • @danahasson2892
      @danahasson2892 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bryanutility9609 handle bar unit is great for starting out. For like 24 inch and under nor bad that size until you can do any size stump it just takes time and physically harder on you.. I have ground stumps large enough with a handiwork unit to be able to bury a small car.

    I don't get why people charge by the inch diameter. A 16in stump has 4x the area ofan 8in- not to mention depth. You'll put 5x the wear on you machine for only 2x the price if you don't charge by area.

    • @tacticalstump1785
      @tacticalstump1785  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I'm not sure. Some guys swear by that method. I charge by time, travel distance, and location on property. Gotta have a minimum as well.

    How hard is it to run a business that just does stump removal and not other tree services along with it? Thanks!

    • @tacticalstump1785
      @tacticalstump1785  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thats a difficult question to answer because I'm sure its different for everyone. Personally Speaking it has its challenges. In the good months I have more work than I can handle myself. The tree companies don't get paid until the stumps are ground and they tend to put extra pressure on you. On top of that I have a waiting list of home owners, landscapers, and property managers. If you take to long to get to them they will simply call someone else... There is a serious amount of stress that comes with that. 1 breakdown will put you behind and you are responsible for calling everyone on the list and explaining that there will be a delay. Dont forget that you will be maintaining a truck, trailer, tools and a grinder while everything is going on. We were so out of control this year that I decided to add another big grinder to the fleet and hire an extra person to run it. I'm sure that will come with its own headaches lol. This business is what you make it. I hope this helps answer your question and if you have any more don't hesitate to ask.

      With the right machine, with a basic 10 inch stump, should take about 15-30mins(conservatively), another 30mins on clean up. Should charge 100$ to 200$. Line jobs up on the same day and thats money!
