Not sure I have ever posted a comment on youtube but man this group of videos shows my same exact cart and walked me through replacing the shifter and all cables. Well done.
Thank you very much for this video!!! I would like to see you add some other videos such as: 1. Brake maintenance and replacement 2. Maintenance in general (batteries, tire rotation, etc...) 3. Head light replacement from old to LED 4. Upgrade options (dash, tires, springs, etc...) Thank you again, Allen
Glad to help!! Give me a call if I can help you rescue your Zombie Golf Cart!! Maybe we can bring it back to life!! Thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe!!
Thanks for the video. I have an older EZGO and I don't want to put a bunch of money into it, but the cables get hot. I've talked to several "experts" and they can't seem to determine the source of the problem. I use the golf card around my ranch and so I drive it up and down hills and longer than you would normally just going from one hole to the next. Do you think new cables would solve the problem?
How many total feet of cable would you recommend for the full replacement above? i am making my own for my 2002 TXT 36v. (EZGO Heavy Duty Battery Cable Upgrade | How to Install Golf Cart Cables | 4 Gauge)
Well done video. My question is two-fold: by exchanging 6 gauge cables for 4 gauge, will you get any increase in performance, such as speed of the cart and any additional life of your batteries? Thank you for your response and the well explained video.
Changing from factory 6 gauge to an upgraded 4 gauge increases the efficiency of the energy flow only. It does not increase speed nor effect battery life.
@Lori L. Morris Lower resistance to the pull of current and push of voltage so batteries and cables stay cooler. It does boost performance and battery life, slightly.
Would you say that a 4awg cable kit for batteries to controller and motor would be a sufficient cable upgrade on a 2017 ezgo txt 48v cart that’s stock w/ (6) Trojan t-875’s other than a Navitas 440 controller and a Curtis sw180 heavy duty solenoid? I’m trying to decide if the added cost of 2awg cables provides a tangible return on investment.
Hi, I completed a swap to upgraded cables, but just the 4 long ones and the small jumper. I didn't address the cables going to the solenoid. After completion, the drive motor does not engage. The cart won't move forward or backwards, but I do have power courtesy of the reverse tone and headlights. What am I missing?
That's strange, those are 2 different wiring systems. One should not affect the other. Double check your wiring and if this persist, give me a call while your at the car with a voltmeter.
So far you've been very helpful. I got a small white wire that comes from solenoid and I cant figure out were it goes from there? I'm thinking it goes to f/r switch but I'm lost. Any help will be appreciated.
I have a 48 VDC EZ Go Golf Car ("Car" not "Cart" according to the Former CEO of Textron, Bev Dolan). I am replacing the 4 batteries and need to know where the cables go. Not the cable that goes to the positive and negative terminals of most of the batteries but the cables that go to the terminals from the first battery (the one toward the front passenger side) to the controller and the charging circuitry etc, I can not find an image and failed to make note of the wiring when I took the batteries out!
How Do I remove the cover on the negative wire that goes in the box in the rear? I can get the top two screws off but I can’t get to the bottom screws. Can you help me with removing that cover. Ron
I found that my A1 cable was not to the ground of the controller. I performed that change. However I am unsure about which location the A2, S1 and S2 cables should be for the clock position. Please advise and thanks in advance
I bought a EZGO golf cart with not batteries or cables. I need to know how do I set that up new! I bought all the stuff but do not know how to wire the 6 -6volt batteries together. do you have a video on that?
I replaced the motor, controller and upgraded the wiring on my 1994 EZ GO txt it moves forward and backward but now the backup alarm stays on all the time. Any suggestions ?
Increasing the gauge of the cables increases the efficiency of the energy flow. Normally the cable size wouldn't be increased unless the entire electrical system was upgraded. If you're looking at installing and upgraded motor/controller package, then yes upgrade the cables, if not, it's not really necessary but won't hurt anything (nor help).
+Jeanie Gregerson On the drivers side of the dash should be a metal plate with a serial number. You can call us with that number and we can assist you in determining what year your golf cart is.
so what cable is at 3 o'clock, which one at 9o'clock, and which one at 12o'clock also is A1 really connectingto b- or m- please respond finishing a swap tom.
I replaced the batteries, cables and charger of my 2007 TXT and when I went to test drive it after it charged up all night it drove like the batteries were weak even though the charger popped off and was in the green. I was very disappointed thinking it would have great torque and drive speed with the new batteries and cables. I plan on checking the voltage but I have found any videos on trouble shooting voltage, speed controllers or pedal switches. I noticed controller prices are very high and I don't want to just throw parts at it. Do you have any trouble shooting videos? Any recommendations ? I just don't want to get ripped off by a local shop. Our cart used to be faster on a fresh charge. Thanks!
No! Do not start throwing parts at it! We don't have any trouble shooting video's yet but, they are coming in the future. Give us a call here at DIY Golf Cart Garage and we'll help you diagnosis any issues. 855-349-4653
+Jim P. Unless you're going up to around 72 volts, no. Increasing the size of the cable allows a more efficient energy flow. Over 72 volts or around 1000 amps is when you might want to consider increasing the cable size.
We just have to agree to dis-agree then. Relate it to diameter of a rubber hose flowing water.. 1/4-inch (6 Ga.) 1/2-inch (4-Ga.) 3/4-inch (2 Ga.). Which will flow better? Volts and amps, really do not matter..They look for the less-path of resistance. The less resistance, the better the efficiency. You said yourself "Increasing the size of the cable allows a more efficient energy flow." Of course it does regardless of the volts. Totally needed on a stock 36v cart? Maybe not, but I've seen large gains in Peak-pack voltages, discharge rates and way less heat in my stock 36v TXT. than when it had 4Ga.
Not sure I have ever posted a comment on youtube but man this group of videos shows my same exact cart and walked me through replacing the shifter and all cables. Well done.

(EZGO Heavy Duty Battery Cable Upgrade | How to Install Golf Cart Cables | 4 Gauge)
Oh geez! I've never measured what length the entire set would be. I'd start with purchasing a 25 ft. roll and go from there! Hope this helps!

When taking wire off motor. Is there 2 wrenches needed? Thanks
The leads (nuts) on the motor are one size and the bolts that attach the motor to the transaxle are a different size.

Give me a call with your make, model and year and we'll figure this out!!!
Your controller has been changed out.
The A2 gets dropped
How come when I have it in tow and key turned off, I still get sparks when doing this?
I have a 1996 ezgo 36v textron. I bought it used and it does not work. On my controller is a red, orange, white and black wires. where do they go?
Do you have a vid for doing this to a Club Car Precedent?
Can I just change the battery cables and not all of the ones from the motor?
How do I change the PDS Forward & Reverse Switch on my ezgo Freedom SE 2007?

We’re can I order the wire kit?

+Patty Willard Check the microswitches on the back of the forward and reverse switch. One of them is for the buzzer., may be stuck or gone bad.
So if money was no object, would 2awg be better than 4awg?
Thanks

how do you tell what year an EZGO is? I have no paperwork from who I had purchased it from. Is there cable diagram I could get?

+Jeanie Gregerson I've been researching into fixing a car battery and found a great resource at Magic Mender Wizard (check it out on google)

How ya gonna put that Electronic Cover back on, uhhh Huh? 😮😂😊
its easy when you have the cab off the body Bro :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
For what is that?
How i can upgrade my golf cart speed without changign my engine
High Speed Gears.
Thanks
What high speed gear woul do yo recomend me for my ez-go 2001

+Jim P. You are correct in you analogy of the water hose. Amperage is everything in determining cable size. We will have to agree to disagree.
I changed mine 2 g much more power and less charging! doc holiday
