Who’s paying $2k for rent? 1 bed in Newport is $4.5k and up.

YOU should have asked, "What kind of work do you do that you can
    afford $3,000 "A MONTH RENT!"
I can understand paying $3,000 a month MORTGAGE for a house that you will eventually own; but RENT!!!!
    Yikes!
I don't care HOW MUCH MONEY I'M MAKING, I would "Not" pay
$3,000 a month on RENT for an apartment that I'm never going to own!
I would rather get a tent and sleep on the street!

Renting makes sense if you don’t want to pay property taxes, maintenance and upkeep, etc. Rent is the maximum you will pay, mortgage/ownership is the minimum you will pay.

@@BORN-to-Run I just sold a house I had owned and lived in for 23 years. The maintenance costs pretty much eat up your appreciation and equity unless you live in a hyper appreciation area. I'm now renting an apartment and saving a ton of money so I can move to NYC/JC when I retire in a few years. You also have a lot more flexibility when renting,
