Playing Journey is one of my most memorable gaming experiences. I managed to play the entire game with the same player and it felt like even without words, we connected. Always waiting up for each other and drawing shapes in the sand and singing, showing each other secrets. Running back to the other when we got hurt. It meant a lot to make that, well, journey with someone.
Same for me! It's just so magical and the first playthrough was such an intense and emotional ride for me because I didn't know at all what to expect beforehand. Just that the artstyle is lovely and it's from the same people who made Flower which I enjoyed a lot before. I got it right on release on the PS3 and when the first traveler popped up I didn't even know the other people were actual players. Took me a bit to figure this out. lol I met 3 people on my first playthrough, one just very briefly at the beginning, one I didn't even see and the last one was my companion for almost the whole game. Having them by my side, both of us with the same goal in mind, supporting each other and struggling in the tough parts, enjoying the more lighthearted parts together and forging this bond without actually talking was such a wonderful and memorable experience for me which I never had before in a game and one that I'll never forget. Unfortunately I lost that player somewhere in the last level near the very end which made me quite sad, it meant I had to be strong and take the final few steps all by myself again. (I love this game to death, haha. I replay it every once in a while and this video makes me want to replay it yet again lol)
It makes me sad Quin didn't get to share his journey with someone, because that is my favorite part of this masterpiece. Keeping eachother warm till the very end and then flying through the summit with the infinite scarf side to side with my new friend was magical on my first time. Also the comment about hair freezing after swimming practise was the most relatable thing I've heard on this channel
I made it through the entire game without realizing the other character was another person playing. I had grown so attached to this character I thought was just an npc. When the credits told me I had made the journey with other real people I cried. What a beautiful game.
@@Sapphairis If you are playing the game online, the game can randomly connect you to someone who is also playing the game at the same time. You then become wordless companions in the same journey, it is a beautiful part of the experience. There are a couple of points in the video which indicated Quin had been connected to one or more companions but he never realised it, likely because they were too far away in the level so didn't notice each other.
Journey taught me what it was like to fall in love with a stranger. I highly recommend playing it again; the experience just feels different when you have someone else in the world with you. Multiplayer is random, but beautiful.
I played it the first time offline and while I enjoyed it, I didn’t understand the high praises it got. Then I played again online and playing with another person COMPLETELY changed the experience. I remember I fell down in the snow area and my companion came down after me even though it meant having to find a way back up. Journey is really like life, it is much more fun with someone else! As someone with social anxiety, it was such a cool way to interact with others. I truly hope Quin does it again with a companion.
@@IsThisThePrizeIveWaitedFor when I first played the game I didn't know about the multiplayer and thought the other character was simply an NPC (yeah, stupid, I know...). In the snow area near the end I somehow forced him to fall off the edge somehow just for fun, as I was curious how quickly the NPC was coming back to me. After the credits I realized it was an actual guy and I did him dirty. Still feeling bad for that today.
@@IsThisThePrizeIveWaitedFor That exact thing happened to me, the falling back down the mountain thing. That the other player jumped down to do it again, was transformative for some reason.
@@DonBillbosChannel My experience was similar, but thankfully ended a bit better. I didn't know it was an online game, so when I first encountered another dude around the time I entered the snowy area, I thought he was an NPC, until I noticed that the behavior and reactions were a bit too human. Otherwise, I probably would've seen if I could push him off, too. What ended up happening instead was that we huddled together for warmth while climbing the mountain. It was super cool. Unfortunately I think he either disconnected or his game crashed, because I looked away for just a moment and he had disappeared without a trace. It was a shame we couldn't go to the end together.
Quin is just a child at heart and the "watch me jump through the window, it's gonna be cool, it's gonna be sick" just solidifies this because we've all met little tiny humans who've told us to watch them jump in, their mind, a really cool way
This lines up perfectly with a story he told in a video once, where he tried to bang real loud against a glass door as a teen and accidentally punched right through it
28:28 fun fact: Journey released for the PS3 for the first time (and yes it was already this pretty), and it did win a game of the year award for the most important games event even before GOTY existed, and there is a game which is considered to be a spiritual sequel to this game (made by the same developers!!!!) released first for mobile devices but now it's on switch, PS4/5 and it's coming to PC, the game is basically journey but you can make actual friends and they can help you along the journey, and it's a very heartfelt community based game, i think ur gonna LOVE it, they recently had an AURORA in game concert, with thousands of people in the same stadium and it was absolutely GORGEOUS, it also receives constant updates, and it does not hide your experience behind any paywalls like many mobile games, it's pretty cool! :) also the name of the game is Sky: Cildren of The Light, i forgor to mention so had to edit xD
Journey will always hold a special place in my heart. Because I’m super socially anxious I always played offline but then I tried it online and just, I have crossed paths with strangers whose names and faces I will never know but will always remember. I have been guided and guided others, sometimes I even just wait in a level hoping for someone to find me and I can share this game with them. This game is actually my favorite game, I could write whole books on how amazing it is. I’m so happy Quin found this game, Journey needs more love and attention
I am HERE for Quin saying, “It’s so pretty” as many times as he desires. Especially since he clearly has the soul of an artist-understanding that warm tones can be used to make a cold feeling? The man has artistic intuition off the charts. Also, the idea that someone who doesn’t like video games just hasn’t found the right one for them made me pause the video to take it in fully because wow, that is truth. 😮 There is something about this game that seems to speak on an intuitive level. The not knowing is so poignant, and that they created an atmosphere where it feels okay joy to know what’s happening is so, I don’t know, almost healing. Consoling. Strange and uplifting. Because a lot of life stress is centered around not knowing, you know? Game beautiful.
This game reminds me of Sky: Children of the Light. You should totally give that game a try too! It’s beautiful and wholesome. It’s made by the same developers of Journey
As someone who really likes exploration, sky is such an amazing game. Exploration is so rewarding with how many hidden areas it has and the game looks so goood. Not to mention they keep updating it with even more new zones to explore!
I believe the side content refers to getting all the achievements and all the scarf upgrades over multiple runs. Also my idea of the story is that the ancient civilisation once worshipped/shared the scarf and used its power to create stuff. But over time, opposing sides wanted to take the scarf for themselves, thus resulting the War Mahcines being created. These machines used the power of the scarf to work, and to actually be built (as seen in the last part of the pink desert we can see the lil scarf-serpent things trapped in large numbers) so after the war, I think its our job to try and free the scarfs from their stone war machine prison.
I played Journey ages ago on PlayStation at a friend's house, then I 100% it on Steam, and I still help out new players when I can! At one point I ran into one of the Journey speedrunners as a partner and another, I ended up with a Twitch streamer playing it blind! That one was especially sweet because they said that while most multiplayer game lobbies were toxic, seeing me drawing hearts in the snow and writing "Hi!" was super heartwarming for them. 💙 Edit: Also Quin getting so much of the theming and discussing stuff like the character in the bottom right not being the focus of the game, and eating shredded cheese at 3am - this is PEAK content! ✨️👍
I was wondering gif you could run into people, at the end of the game it said I met someone but I never actually saw them. Kinda sad I didn’t see anyone else
@@QuinBoBin There's basically a radius where if you and another player are in the same vague area, you'll get connected into a session, and it'll stick until one person quits or moves to the next zone without the other, or gets WAY too far away. It's definitely a cool experience to play it with someone you can only talk to in excited beeps lmao. It's not too long to 100% if you want to though! At the very least I'd say get all the runes, because you get a special reward near the first Bird Statue in the first area (it also acts as a hub for the other zones!).
@@dqixsoss7436 Hi, sorry for late response! ^^ They didn't upload it anywhere to YT and the VOD got auto-deleted from Twitch a while ago (much to my eternal regret I didn't record it! ;n;).
Ahh Journey's one of my fav games ever (fav OST ever for sure), seeing you enjoy it made me smile for that half an hour lol. Also the upcoming game is not from the same studio - it's another studio created by the art director of Journey (if you wanna try something artsy with pretty environments and FISH, try Abzu). The story is largely open to interpretation, but it's more or less like this: a long time ago, there was a thriving civilisation. The scarves filled with light were their source of energy, and they used that energy to live in peace. However, at some point, a war broke out. They used giant machines powered by scarf creatures, to wipe each other out. Eventually, the machines started malfunctioning and turned against their creators. The civilisation fell, leaving behind the machines, the scarf creatures, and ruins. I like to think about the journey of our traveler as of purgatory of sorts - trapped in a cicle of death and rebirth, discovering the history of its people and atoning for their sins. ALSO the symbol that appears when you chirp is randomly generated. And during my last journey (I replay the game every now and then), I had the exact same one! Which I think is prolly the best one really cause it looks like two very bemused faces on top of each other lmao (like this: :III)
I am one of those players who has been playing Journey since the beginning and still goes back to it every few years. Something which makes it much safer and better is how you are only ever with one random that you can't friend, text, or speak to. That helps me feel relaxed and also freer than in the majority of MMO games where people with ulterior motives can try to use the social side of the game for bad purposes. Another cool side is these days if you run into another veteran, they can be a glitcher who loves to show you easter eggs and other out of bounds stuff. The last run that I did was with a glitcher who was so good and nice that it took almost double time to complete the game. I didn't even get to see the last glitch they were trying to show me because I ran out of time and had to stop.😢
I'm not fully through the video yet but if you like this art style, the mechanics, and the overall story/experience you might like Gris! If you haven't already played it.
3:30 "I think this is the afterlife, but imma be honest, it's less red and hot than I was expecting." Best subtle joke I've heard in MONTHS. 😆 Also game really is pretty, I don't mind you saying it cuz it's true.
Seeing Quin play Journey reminded me of how I first played the game back in 2020 when it was offered for free - Always experienced an overwhelming amount of awe and wonder. It also doesn't help that Austin Wintory's score keeps plucking my heartstrings, always giving such an amazing atmosphere at a goodly scale. I'd also recommend playing ABZÛ as it was also scored by Austin Wintory and the art direction for the game is very similar to Journey (in summary, it's basically Journey but underwater)
I cannot remember ever being so confused yet somehow feeling warm and fuzzy inside… and +loving+ it at the same time. Also the game is just beyond gorgeous, it really can’t be said enough.
There is something about this game that seems to speak on an intuitive level. The not knowing is so poignant, and that they created an atmosphere where it feels okay joy to know what’s happening is so, I don’t know, almost healing. Consoling. Strange and uplifting. Now I can truly see how " Sky: Children of the Light " is a successor to Journey The scarf/cape, the calls, the ancient ruins, the creatures, and the ending (somewhat)
def one of my favorite games ever. everytime i play it it touches me deeply, especially if my cat is near me. there isn't a strict, detailed lore to speak of, instead the game encourages the player to come to their own conclusions. but some basics i'd say are pretty unambiguous: the visions that the "bird gods" showed you were stories of the past: about how life (symbolised by the shiny square symbols... fun fact: yours is randomly generated on each playthrough, so every player character is unique) inhabits the scarf thingies, which are basically the equivalent of living beings: plants(the seaweed-like scarves), animals(the "dolphins", jellyfish, whales, etc) and people (like your character). when you stand by other beings, (including other players online!), or your calls reach them, you get reinvigorated by each other's warmth, as that is what all the creatures are made of. at some point, the civilization probably fought over resources and started a war, building those big mean flying robots. (they are powered by the little scarfy critters. you freed some of them from some robot scraps). these war machines eventually all but destroyed the land, hence all the ruins and stuff. when you're about to reach the top of the mountain, you die, and get reinvigorated by the "bird gods" you look up to (i think this part is a metaphor or a near-death hallucination, since you later see what seems to be your grave in the snow), to finally fulfill your purpose and allow for some other life to make their journey. like you predicted, the mountain seems to be a sort of "arche" to life, a melting pot where everything dies and is born. i've seen many point out, actually, that the many phases of the journey may symbolise the phases of a person's life: a carefree beginning (the ✨pink sand✨), an exhilarating growth (the big slidey part) a crisis when you discover dark truths, a cathartic atonement (the tower) where you work with others, and a harrowing conclusion until your forces fail you. some have also pointed out the similarities with the hero's journey archetype, or various other interpretations (philosophical, spiritual...) but at the end of the day it's about what you make of it... ~it's about the journey~ , and yours is gonna be different from everyone elses, even though the destination is the same for all. edit: fun fact, if you find all the shiny emblems you unlock a white skin that makes you look similar to the "bird gods!" this brings me to believe that the white fabric may signify great wisdom, since it's what they wear. they're probably your mentors, people you admire and look to for guidance. cause then you can go online with your white robe and physically help other players on their journey!
This is not a game I ever expected to see on this channel. I loved this. I remember my first time playing Journey. It had to be a little over 10 years ago, I must have been a junior in high school. I got so obsessed with learning everything about this game, and finding every single secret. I still go back and replay it every few years, and I still have the sound track. I actually made my first Facebook account around the same time I first played this, and my profile picture and banner were both Journey related for like the first year of my foray into social media. lol This was such a nice little blast of nostalgia with my favorite gamer. Can't wait for more games. :)
I. Love. This. Game. Thanks for sharing your reaction, it's one of my faves now. The murals depict the fall of a people that became obsessed with and dependent upon generating energy (fire, electricity, life force, the glowing glyphs) through the exploitation of other beings, in order to build a bigger and more powerful civilization. Eventually they splintered apart and built machines to fight their wars for them -- machines that fed on this exploited energy. The civilization fell, and because all things flow in cycles and are interconnected, their descendants follow a pilgrimage to remember that path, learn from it, see the remnants of war and the hear the chirps of the creatures still trapped in machines, and lighten their own karma (flight) by releasing them. And at the end of the pilgrimage, are reborn again and again. They do not escape pain or death, nor are their lives without beauty and wonder. It's simple and whole. Jenova Chen, designer for the game, intended it as a deeply existential and unifying experience. (Side note, the areas that seem to fill with water-like light that auto-refills your scarf? Think of them as being outside of time.)
Enough people are saying Abzû so I'm not gonna mention it, but Matt Nava (art director for this and director of Abzû) has another game called The Pathless which is every bit of fun and artsy and beautiful as them. It is a bit longer than the other two but still a short game and if you enjoy them you won't regret checking it out.
Journey’s one of those games where you don’t know how good it is until you play it. Shame the online co-op never kicked it. It’s supposed to pair you up with another player, and display their username at the end. I think this happen to you near the buildings just before the sand sliding, but they seemingly moved to the next level before you even saw them. Ah well.
Oh I played this :D Game pretty I agree. Also I love deserts in art and stuff, and game really good in general so yeah this game was super cool to experience even though my computer was STRUGGLING lol. Really cool to see you enjoy it as well! Also I had no idea they were making a sequel, that's awesome!
I remember in college one of the books I was assigned to read opened with this game. I needed to understand what the book was talking about so I played it. I haven’t seen the game since. Thank you Quin for letting me revisit this game. It brought back a lot of memories.
I like to think "Journey" is called that because it follows Joseph Campbell's hero's journey. His hero's journey is all about a cycle of death, rebirth, path of trials, and that being how people of myths and people in the normal world go about their everyday. We constantly fall and constantly get back up--sometimes with the help of bird gods. Man, I'm so happy you played this, Quin.
I have been searching far and wide for that game! I used to play it with a childhood friend on her play station 3, so many years back and I really wanted to revisit it but I could not for the life of me remember the name! So I guess I am saying thank you for finding it and playing it 😊
Journey. The game that simulates the journey through life. With the scarf representing your age as it grows the further you get, you meet strangers who may come and go or stick with you till the very end. And you do meet your end, falling in the snow as your scarf whittles away and you can't go any further. Only to be risen again into a wonderous place high above where you soar through your afterlife until you eventually walk into the light. That's how I interpreted this beautiful piece of art.
My mom had this on jer ps4 and i knew nothing about it and for while thought it was a dream because all i remembered was gorgeous emptiness and just running around. So glad it wasnt a dream and now i know what its called
If you wanna play games that are similar to Journey, I would recommend Abzû and Sword of the Sea. They are both beautiful and really cool. Sword of the Sea isn't out yet tho, but it looks mad cool
Wait there's side content in this game? Maybe helping out the other floating carpets count and the lengthening of your scarf(?) maybe? The game itself is really up to your own interpretation, though people do come together and try to understand what the game is about, but all in all I think the general consensus is that the game is about enlightenment and willing to start from the bottom after reaching the top. Which is why people go back to the game after like a week or month after finishing the game. Though I wish the next time you play the game again, you meet another player in the game. But if you're interested in how I understood the game here's how it goes: The flying carpets are a power source that people use to give life to the cities, it was so heavily used to the point that it was used to power machinery. Later on they decided to make machinery for warfare over dispute on the carpets, thus the endless amounts of graves you encounter, and why you encounter destroyed machines that contain carpets. However this did not stop the people from going on journeys on top of the mountain as it is a point where they can go in peace, if you will, a sort of heaven for them to rest and be reborn again. The "comet" or light that you see that shoots out from the mountain, I am not sure whether it's scripted or not, but when you see a light shoot out from a mountain that is a person who just finished their journey, they then return from the top to go back to the start at the bottom.
Ooh I'm so glad you played this! It's such a beautiful game and gives you so much room to breathe in your own interpretation. Also, love the point about how the character fills the screen doing work to tell part of what is important to the story, great point! It's not the same, but you playing this made me think you might enjoy Monument Valley and its sequel. They're pretty short puzzle games with a really lovely atmosphere.
@@handohansolo8866haven’t checked recently but you’ll usually encounter someone in a playthrough. If you wanna make sure you meet someone just wait for 5-10 mins in the area after the bridge and you’ll find someone
I played the game like 10 years ago, it's so underrated. Everyone interprets the story differently but my interpretation was that the tapestry depicted those who came before you. I saw it like all of the white ones were dead, and there were like a bajillion of them, and then eventually you get put on the tapestry too cause you made it the furthest. Pretty sure that's not even close to what the developers intended but it's still cool. Can't wait for sword of the sea, the (sort of) sequel.
I wonder if enough of us Sky Kids beg and plead, if Quin will join us in Sky CotL. Id always heard this game was one of its predecessors, and getting to finally see it, played by my favorite person to watch play video games!! Awesome!
Journey is magical, one of my favourite experiences. I love the art direction and the uncomfirmed lore ha hah a. Since I have really bad memory, I'm glad I can replay it once every couple of years and still find it so fun to explore ha ha
So bad the lonely experience. Also, now it is time for Sky. Wich being honest is the much better and bigger version in almost every way. So glad to see how you enjoy this piece of art.
Oh man! Journey is one of my favourite games of all time! The music is soo gorgeous and the story is beautiful, even if it's simple. I'm so glad you had a good time with it!
The way I screeched when I saw you were going to play this game has made several people think I was being murdered. It's such a simplistic game, but it is so fun and relaxing, and trying to figure out the lore is possibly the best part. Journey crawled so Sky:Children of the Light could fly, quite literally. It's another game made by the same company that I would recommend, just be sure to hide your wallet before getting into it.
The same developers made a game for the phone and the switch called Sky: Children of the Light and it’s basically a more evolved Journey. The environment is much more diverse (there’s still a lot of sand everywhere but there’s grass and ice sometimes), the story is very very similar, just more advanced and more to it. A lot more environmental storytelling and worldbuilding, a more complex soundtrack, the gameplay is also very similar with a few advancements. It’s kind of like a sequel or a reimagining. I’d recommend. Also play Wandersong.
I ALMOST JUMPED AND STARTED FLYING AROUND WHEN I SAW THE NOTIFICATION IM SO HAPPY YOU PLAYED THIS!!! PLEASE YOU SHOULD DEFINTELY CHECK SKY: CHILDREN OF THE LIGHT AFTER, ITS FROM THE SAME DEVS BUT IT'S A HEARTFELT SOCIAL EXPERIENCE
I love your vids quin I love how chill and wholesome you are compared to other youtubers. you stop and look at the little things and I love that. just the way you admired the pink sand and enjoyed every minute of this game. 27:28 loved the words of wisdom. it was really deep and so simple and I loved it (I just wish this game was on switch!)
I've never played or seen anything of this game, but it instantly felt familiar because it plays really similar to the other really pretty game these developers made, which is Sky: Children of the light. It is a online game, and you get to make friends to solve some puzzles, but it's really fun, and it has the same sort of floaty feel as this game. And another game that is really pretty and short but fun to play through is a game called Abzu, which honestly fits the vibe of this game as well, and I'd honestly really recommend it
Journey has brought me a whimsical feeling and tought me to appreciate the magic of games I haven't even watched the video yet and hope Quin is having the best time
I love Journey, but I love Abzu even more! You're a swimming cat dude and there are absolutely giant creatures. Made by the same people and so gorgeous and a wonderful story. You should play Abzu next!
I remember the first time I played this game. I got overly emotional and cried at the end. Very beautiful and a masterpiece. Even if this game is older I really enjoyed your play through.
Its kinda sad he didn’t get to experience the winter and the ending flight with another player. I was lucky enough to play almost the whole game with the same guy and it made the game a much more memorable experience.
Something really cool. The more times you do a playthrough, the larger the pattern on the base of your cloak. So if you see another player with like half their cloak covered in triangles you’ll know they’ve played this game loads :)) I’m hoping to get a tattoo of the main character eventually!!
Journey, like all pilgrimages, is about the meaning you discover within yourself along the way, how you grow, and how a little help from a stranger can change everything.
It was so nice to see Quin admire a game like this as always! I also agree, game pretty! If I can suggest another game, it would be Abzû. It’s made by the same people who made, or at least inspired by, Journey. That game is also pretty!
I remember when I first played this game. Everyone else in the house had decided to go to a family gathering, and I stayed behind because I didn't feel like it that day. I had never heard of this game before, but saw it on the PS3 e-shop for $10, and decided I'd give it a shot. Had no idea what sort of game it was (trailer wasn't loading, but it sounded cool), but it was around 9PM (middle of Winter, so pitch black), the lights were off, and those 3-4 hours I spent playing it were incredible. One of the best ten spots I've ever dropped.
i was thinking ab new games i might wanna play and thought “oh what’s that really pretty one that quin played?” and then mentally facepalmed as my brain scrolled through memory after memory of quin saying “this game is so PRETTY” in like every video ever anyways this was the game i was thinking of yippee
Journey is one of the most beautiful games I've ever played. The cool thing about it is that it is online multiplayer, you are matched with a random person who is in the same area as you and you can only really communicate through your little magic pings, but it makes you feel a connection in ways that can't ever be experienced in other games. Also here is my interpretation of the story: I think its more about bearing witness to the civilization that came before you. We can see from the murals that it tells the tale of the people in the white robes; I think the mountain was a source of some kind of magic, so they migrated there and made farmlands, processed the magic into the scarves, and then built an entire city. Then there was a war over who had control over the magic and scarves, prompting them to make the giant snakes (big fish) to hunt down and collect/destroy the magic scarves. This I think is why there are so many graves in the desert, because that's where the people from the war are buried. While I am unsure about the origin of the red people, the PC's, I think the spirits of the people in white guide them through the Journey of what their people did, as a way of showing not to make the same mistakes. The red player dies before reaching the top of the mountain, and is sent through the paradise at the peak before being sent to the beginning again.
Ahhhh I haven't started the video hut I'm so excited for you to play this!!! This game made me cry multiple times snf the music still gives me goosebumps!
Quin if you like Journey, you should do like a single playthrough of Sky:COTL :D It’s made by the same people and has a lot of the same qualities! It’s a bit more social but you absolutely don’t have to participate in that 🤣 It’s also a beautiful game with great ambiance :3
This reminded me that I'm hoping to see Quin play Spiritfarer someday. Between exploring, prettiness, and opportunities to cry, I feel like it's right up his alley. Plus, have kitty.
if you want to see more of similiar game, the studio that made journey made another game too! it's called sky: children of light, and it's pretty fun. i dunno whether or not you wanna do videos on it, but i recommend checking it out since you like journey. there's rock crabs
Hey quin! Another game I recommend is 'Aer - memories of old' by forgotten keys. You can turn into a large bird and fly and discover islands and solve really cool puzzles as you uncover the lore of the game. It took me like 5 hours to play maybe, so it's perfect for a video
This is one of my favourite game! Now my favourite gaming TH-camr plays it too. I literally screamed out of excitement when I saw this video on my feed
I absolutely love this game and I highly recommend learning to fancy fly. Glitching and exploiting the movement in this game is super fun and satisfying, especially flying around at ridiculous speed and gaining absurd amounts of height
Oh, Quin! Hearing you talk about environmental storytelling reminds me that you should play Unpacking. Pixel art style, relaxing game play, LOTS of environmental storytelling.
Took me a bit to figure this out. lol

Quin accidentally saying something deep while talking about the camera angle is what im here for
I made it through the entire game without realizing the other character was another person playing. I had grown so attached to this character I thought was just an npc. When the credits told me I had made the journey with other real people I cried. What a beautiful game.
This is one of my all time favourite games. My only regret from this video is that Quin never realised he had companions making the journey with him.
Only 1 person, it seemed. This type of game is best played when it comes out.

There are a couple of points in the video which indicated Quin had been connected to one or more companions but he never realised it, likely because they were too far away in the level so didn't notice each other.
@@Soncikuropeople are still playing it, met someone like this month
Quin is just a child at heart and the "watch me jump through the window, it's gonna be cool, it's gonna be sick" just solidifies this because we've all met little tiny humans who've told us to watch them jump in, their mind, a really cool way
100% agree
also the name of the game is Sky: Cildren of The Light, i forgor to mention so had to edit xD
Sky is a very good game :)
@@Pumpkin878 yes! and OMG HE LIKED MY COMMENT I REALLY HOPE HE PLAYS IT!!!
You MUST play rain world. Unreasonable difficulty, awesome environmental storytelling, stupidly cryptic lore, Rain World has it all.
YES PLEASE
Maybe one day
Journey will always hold a special place in my heart.
I do that too :D I usually make it to the snow area then wait for someone so I can guide them up the mountain
There is something about this game that seems to speak on an intuitive level. The not knowing is so poignant, and that they created an atmosphere where it feels okay joy to know what’s happening is so, I don’t know, almost healing. Consoling. Strange and uplifting. Because a lot of life stress is centered around not knowing, you know? Game beautiful.
This game reminds me of Sky: Children of the Light. You should totally give that game a try too! It’s beautiful and wholesome. It’s made by the same developers of Journey
It’s made by the same developer: thatgamecompany
It's made by the same people!
Journey is actually the predecessor of Sky! Love both games
@@andimarus I thought that too. Very similar art styles
These machines used the power of the scarf to work, and to actually be built (as seen in the last part of the pink desert we can see the lil scarf-serpent things trapped in large numbers) so after the war, I think its our job to try and free the scarfs from their stone war machine prison.
quin going from “game good” to “wtf is the story” is hilarious to me, like always great vid quin good job :)
Edit: Also Quin getting so much of the theming and discussing stuff like the character in the bottom right not being the focus of the game, and eating shredded cheese at 3am - this is PEAK content!
Do you remember who the twitch streamer was? I kinda wanna watch them play it :))

I like that theory makes a lot of sense
I picked it up recently, I’ll definitely try it out at some point
Gris is sooooooo good! Warning though, you might cry, but it is definitely worth the tears.
Abzu is another game you'll love if you loved journey
3:30 "I think this is the afterlife, but imma be honest, it's less red and hot than I was expecting." Best subtle joke I've heard in MONTHS. 😆
Also game really is pretty, I don't mind you saying it cuz it's true.
7:52 I think the brain goblin is doing a little more than needed 😂
13:10 “I wish sand was real” 😂
I cannot remember ever being so confused yet somehow feeling warm and fuzzy inside… and +loving+ it at the same time. Also the game is just beyond gorgeous, it really can’t be said enough.
There is something about this game that seems to speak on an intuitive level. Now I can truly see how " Sky: Children of the Light " is a successor to Journey
The scarf/cape, the calls, the ancient ruins, the creatures, and the ending (somewhat)
Quin, look over there! It’s a PRETTY GAME!
Alright everyone start digging, if we hurry he might be distracted for long enough that we might get out
def one of my favorite games ever.
everytime i play it it touches me deeply, especially if my cat is near me.
there isn't a strict, detailed lore to speak of, instead the game encourages the player to come to their own conclusions. but some basics i'd say are pretty unambiguous:
the visions that the "bird gods" showed you were stories of the past:
about how life (symbolised by the shiny square symbols... fun fact: yours is randomly generated on each playthrough, so every player character is unique) inhabits the scarf thingies, which are basically the equivalent of living beings: plants(the seaweed-like scarves), animals(the "dolphins", jellyfish, whales, etc) and people (like your character).
when you stand by other beings, (including other players online!), or your calls reach them, you get reinvigorated by each other's warmth, as that is what all the creatures are made of.
at some point, the civilization probably fought over resources and started a war, building those big mean flying robots. (they are powered by the little scarfy critters. you freed some of them from some robot scraps). these war machines eventually all but destroyed the land, hence all the ruins and stuff.
when you're about to reach the top of the mountain, you die, and get reinvigorated by the "bird gods" you look up to (i think this part is a metaphor or a near-death hallucination, since you later see what seems to be your grave in the snow), to finally fulfill your purpose and allow for some other life to make their journey.
like you predicted, the mountain seems to be a sort of "arche" to life, a melting pot where everything dies and is born.
i've seen many point out, actually, that the many phases of the journey may symbolise the phases of a person's life: a carefree beginning (the ✨pink sand✨), an exhilarating growth (the big slidey part) a crisis when you discover dark truths, a cathartic atonement (the tower) where you work with others, and a harrowing conclusion until your forces fail you.
some have also pointed out the similarities with the hero's journey archetype, or various other interpretations (philosophical, spiritual...)
but at the end of the day it's about what you make of it... ~it's about the journey~ , and yours is gonna be different from everyone elses, even though the destination is the same for all.
edit: fun fact, if you find all the shiny emblems you unlock a white skin that makes you look similar to the "bird gods!"
this brings me to believe that the white fabric may signify great wisdom, since it's what they wear. they're probably your mentors, people you admire and look to for guidance. cause then you can go online with your white robe and physically help other players on their journey!
I like the theory of it being about a persons life, makes a lot of sense. It’s cool how there are so many different ways to look at this game
I actually made my first Facebook account around the same time I first played this, and my profile picture and banner were both Journey related for like the first year of my foray into social media. lol
This was such a nice little blast of nostalgia with my favorite gamer. Can't wait for more games. :)
Glad to see this 11 year old masterpiece still getting recognition today. It’s such a beautiful game.
I. Love. This.
Ah well.
Wait it told me that I saw someone else but I didn’t know where that’s so cool
Oh I played this :D Game pretty I agree. Also I love deserts in art and stuff, and game really good in general so yeah this game was super cool to experience even though my computer was STRUGGLING lol. Really cool to see you enjoy it as well! Also I had no idea they were making a sequel, that's awesome!
I remember in college one of the books I was assigned to read opened with this game. I needed to understand what the book was talking about so I played it. I haven’t seen the game since. Thank you Quin for letting me revisit this game. It brought back a lot of memories.
What book was it?
I like to think "Journey" is called that because it follows Joseph Campbell's hero's journey. His hero's journey is all about a cycle of death, rebirth, path of trials, and that being how people of myths and people in the normal world go about their everyday. We constantly fall and constantly get back up--sometimes with the help of bird gods.
Man, I'm so happy you played this, Quin.
every quin "its so pretty" has the same energy as that art piece where they gave a dog a camera and it snapped a photo every time the dog got excited

Sword of the sea? Thought that wasn’t out yet
sword of sea is made by the same people that made journey btw
Absolutely! Abzu is so pretty!
This is one of my all time favorite games! I adore the soundtrack too, its an album that I can listen front to back and enjoy every moment
The "comet" or light that you see that shoots out from the mountain, I am not sure whether it's scripted or not, but when you see a light shoot out from a mountain that is a person who just finished their journey, they then return from the top to go back to the start at the bottom.
major Sky: children of the light vibes
it was made by the same company
Ooh I'm so glad you played this! It's such a beautiful game and gives you so much room to breathe in your own interpretation. Also, love the point about how the character fills the screen doing work to tell part of what is important to the story, great point!
It's not the same, but you playing this made me think you might enjoy Monument Valley and its sequel. They're pretty short puzzle games with a really lovely atmosphere.

Awesome!

Its kinda sad he didn’t get to experience the winter and the ending flight with another player. I was lucky enough to play almost the whole game with the same guy and it made the game a much more memorable experience.
I bloody love this game. I come back to this game every now and again and just smash it out in one sitting. Happy to see you playing it!
Something really cool. The more times you do a playthrough, the larger the pattern on the base of your cloak. So if you see another player with like half their cloak covered in triangles you’ll know they’ve played this game loads :))
I’m hoping to get a tattoo of the main character eventually!!
we love when you comment on how pretty the game is. don’t ever stop! also, you might like the book Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow
That game is also pretty!
journey is definitely one of my top favorite games, and im so glad you got to experience it!
Can’t wait for you to play Gris! 🥰 have a nice day!
One of the best ten spots I've ever dropped.
i was thinking ab new games i might wanna play and thought “oh what’s that really pretty one that quin played?” and then mentally facepalmed as my brain scrolled through memory after memory of quin saying “this game is so PRETTY” in like every video ever

This game made me cry multiple times snf the music still gives me goosebumps!

if you want to see more of similiar game, the studio that made journey made another game too! it's called sky: children of light, and it's pretty fun. i dunno whether or not you wanna do videos on it, but i recommend checking it out since you like journey. there's rock crabs
Journey. The best meditative experience with so much emotion without really knowing the characters. Amazing.
The soundtrack for journey is one of my absolute favorites. A remastered version was released recently with a full orchestra.
It’s so good!
Watching this while a boat I was on took longer than expected felt great great video btw:)
