So GLAD to see this! I contacted NZ about 10 years ago about determining what is the real deal. They were so helpful. But the frustrating part was seeing all the fake Manuka honey products in U.S. grocery stores. I don't know if this is allowable but beware of Wedderspoon brand. Trader Joes sells questionable manuka as well. thank you for posting this excellent piece! I hope more people see this.

Wedderspoon has the markings of the fern logo along with the NZ government approval logo. They follow the kfactor spectrum which is questionable but I don’t think they are fake.
Can you tell me which brand in NZ sell real Manuka honey ,please!!

The problem with Manuka honey authenticity sits not in Manuka honey but into human/consumer's mind. UMF CEO of course has to defend his own association of NZ beekeepers because everyone is paying them an annual membership fee. It is a normal thing for any business association. What is not normal based on my understanding is UMF Association silently built their own Manuka honey standard and called it UMF. So practically the Association is selling their verification logo that every Association member can print on its honey after annual fee been paid. I met with 90% of well known Manuka honey brand owners in NZ and USA; I asked them ( their ranks were not less than sales directors or CEO) to explain me in plain English what their UMF digits means and why UMF logo carries two small letters TM at the upper right corner. Well, I got an explanation about UMF logo - it is a Trade Mark and not a laboratory grade of Manuka honey . I'm okay with that but how to understand what potency is hiding under their digits like 10+, 15+, 20+ ? No ONE was able to tell me a mystery of those digits. Another problem stays in basic understanding of bees collecting nectars from everything that is flowering in December-January in NZ. Nobody can command bees to fly over Leptospermum Scoparium plants only, they are free insects. That is why Manuka honey grade I accepted for my brand was an amount of dietary Methylglyoxal in mg per kilo - counted and measured by located in New Zealand independent laboratory. Let me repeat - INDEPENDENT means not working either for any brand or Association. That is how I feel secured about my Bee Magic brand is indeed authentic, potent, not adulterated or deluded. Yes, I do prefer to stay present on a packing facility while my new batch is packing and to see what barrel/drum my honey for fellow Americans is packing in jars. Otherwise, you cannot be guarantee that Manuka honey you hold into your hands is indeed 100% Manuka honey without Rata or any other New Zealand honey blended. Unfortunately, US FDA does not care about what is inside a jar : honey or Manuka honey, FDA does control the sticker, a label text and a design. Period.
I guess this is why the Kfactor was invented by wedderspoon. It’s all confusing..

so, at the end he really didn't tell how to tell what is real. there is no way. it is just a hype. even in NZ probably it is impossible to buy real
