9:30 Endar949 asked - "Why does Cobalt always get in here (the refinery) first?" Answer, the drills always try to empty their contents into the storages first, so if the refinery is the only place with space left for mined ores, the drills dump direct into the refinery. But that's not what you wanted to know. If the drills are empty - The refinery pulls ores from cargo IN THE ORDER THEY ARE STORED; because the Cobalt was in the first of the slots occupied by any variant of refinable ore, it got drawn into the refinery first.
Through testing, I think that the reason cobalt keeps dropping first into the reactor is actually its place in your cargo. I have a theory that the Refinery prioritizes the FIRST ore in the cargo container, so some organizing may help.
You really re-sparked my interest in this game, and as more people have said a lot of useful stuff in these vids. More videos would be better but I guess this is not a fulltime job for you (yet?)
Man, I have about 1,800 hours in SE and I didn't know about the shift+MMB to send your build planner items to the assembler; I'd just been doing it by clicking the little arrow and gear button in the inventory menu (does the same thing). I love watching any videos covering fundamentals, because there always seems to be something to learn, even for experienced players. Doesn't even matter what game. Heck, reviewing the fundamentals for anything you do in life is usually a good habit to have. Never assume you know everything already, and assume you might learn something new.
it was actually brought in after the mod maker allowed keen to add it to the build planner framework. it uses all the same buttons the original mod did too, to keep things streamlined. probably wouldve been in the last year or so
@@nathanharrison2 Cool! This is what I love about Keen and the modding community, is how closely they work with each other. Hell, several of Keen's staff started as modders, and they just hired them outright. I remember when ladders were still a mod. So many mods have been adopted into vanilla, and I love that. Space Engineers is truly a collaboration between the developers and their community. Very unusual, but very smart.
I'd love to see Build Info with the air leak detection become a vanilla part of the game. I refuse to build ships without Build Info. I'll straight up leave a server if they don't use it. Absolute must-have mod. Same with Build Vision, and Build Hints.
oh my god, finally i am able to play this game, Ive always held off on playing it because im absolutely clueless but i just follow this step-by-step, and you actually explain what you're doing while doing, so im now enjoying this game and understanding it. thank you.
I have to say, I'm annoyed that I didn't find these videos a few hundred game-hours ago. These two videos are excellent and the amount of great tips you managed to squeeze into a half hour (total) of videos is phenomenal. Please continue this series! The community will benefit from it.
These videos are so concise and are helping me so much with designing my ships, I hope your channel gets the recognition it deserves this is amazing content!
Appreciate these videos as im new to the game and was really struggling with getting up and going quick enough. Im running a few of the more interactive mods, so there's lots of npcs in my game to add challenge and flavor. But i found that in my first 5 attempts spawning in space, i'd get like 5-10 minutes before pirates would show up and just chase me to the ends of the earth. Trying on my own I couldn't get enough going to do anything, i'd end up running and not be able to even stop for resources. Following your vid I was able to get everything I needed to have refinery assembler and drill, and could drive by mine while being chased lol.
Good videos so far! one thing you mentioned while building the big refinery. The way you had the assembler port where it was, you could have also built a welder (the block) and had it weld the refinery. I usually do something like that as, like you said, it takes forever by hand. It also saves taking the stuff from the cargo containers and putting them into the block by hand.
3:04, A little tip, my personal preference, remap view panning to "C" and remap crouch/thrust down to "L Alt." It may feel weird at first, but trust me, it makes way more sense, especially in a dogfight. It's smart to have the thrust down button be L Alt due to it being a much larger button, and right next to the space bar (thrust up/jump). You're gonna use crouch/thrust down way more than you're gonna need free-looking, especially if you play with a fairly wide FOV, like 90 or higher.
Have played with it yet, but that remap actually makes sense, you aren't going to be doing both at the same time, and L Alt is a button you can hit with your thumb easily from the wasd position.
I've really wanted to dive into a space game. Space Engineers seems right up my alley. Though, the start has given me troubles. Your videos have helped get me moving and to keep my interest. Thanks!
i like to put the assembler opposite to the survival kit and add a second drill from there. both of the drills have storage equal to a small cargo container. it doesn't leave any room for modules if you had wanted to put them on though. with modules, i would have put the assembler hanging down from the original cargo container (where your refinery is now) and you can put the modules around it. And then put the refinery on top of your ship with the side port connected to the top of your ship. also make sure the port at the top of the refinery is higher up so that you can attach a large cargo container to it on top of your cabin. but by this point you will definitely want a jump drive because with all that cargo your ship will be slow as. and then you might as well build a whole new ship that looks a little more crafted and less slap-dash.
Instead of Silver, I go Gold. With Gold You can make the Yield Module enhancements for the Refinery. That lets you make more refined metals for less ore, faster. Its overall a time saver. (watching more) This is especially handy when you are refining Uranium!
you can also decide what ore gets used first by reordering them in the cargo then removing all the cobalt. there is also a button for moving everything to one location using the filters. hand welding has a double click option so you don't need to hold the button to weld and can go afk and get drink if you like.
This game is utterly amazing, the only thing I didn't like about it was the fact the icons have no colour, but you can get the mod called "Colorful Icons" which just makes it even better
Nice serie. Strange way to empty cargo, should drag and drop from both sides of the inventory window. Also I can suggest to use the provided generator that comes full of Hydrogen to top off your batteries when necessary. Mine a little ICE also first, in O2/H2 generator. Keeps you live until you find uranium. Then build an ore detector to scan asteroids, because by hand its only 50m range, can take hours and sometimes you will not find the rarest at all. I will look for Gold before uranium, then build yeld upgrades for the refinery before anything else. It will DOUBLE the refined amount of ingots per ore, so effectively DOUBLE the refining speed while HALVING the necessary mining effort [;oD
This is two years ago however currently if I use shift+MMB it seems to triple or more of the components actually needed for the thing. like when I did it to make something that say needs 100 steel plates it wanted to make 300 instead
You mentioned the power supply being "Just batteries and a solar panel" a few times. But what about the hydrogen engine? I know it's not much. But it's there too, and only needs ice to fuel
In total maybe 5 or 6 hours, the longest part is probably cutting all the clips together, and for flying around I just used spectator camera to save time haha but it still works with just your suit, can't use spectator on servers lol
I did this without watching the Tutorial. As i was building the large refinerie my ship got stolen.. how are you suppoed to defend against this when you are just starting-.-
Why not just use the k menu to begin with as it's less inconvenient to use / GPS then go into the k menu in order for me to change the color label when I can just go into the k menu click GPS from new position give it a name and label it all at the same time with the color. Now if you're one of the people who was just going to do / GPS and you want a whole bunch of blue points that look almost exactly the same clutter in your screen instead of colors indicating or color of the ore then more power to you

when is episode 3? I don't know about anyone else but i've been checking this channel daily to see if its up haha
I love the series! I guess I will get into Space Engineers myself one day
Before your episode 2 I put some additions on the pod, a ore detector ( it has a 150lm radius ), a second drill, and I repaired the thrusters

Hey, i know it can take some time, but we still want next episode of your guide!
Quick tip. Color your gps markers. If you want to find iron instead of reading all of them just look for a red marker. Very helpful

Nice progression. 🙂
more?
Can't wait till the nest episode I have no idea what to do next 😫

Better wording: red *tint* . Like a paint splotch, a “glow” would usually mean it’s emitting light.

How much time would you say you have spent in E01 and E02 so far (add the time when you flew around space to look for all the ore)?
In total maybe 5 or 6 hours, the longest part is probably cutting all the clips together, and for flying around I just used spectator camera to save time haha but it still works with just your suit, can't use spectator on servers lol

Always get Yield modules on your refinery before you let any uranium start processing. >.>
I did this without watching the Tutorial. As i was building the large refinerie my ship got stolen.. how are you suppoed to defend against this when you are just starting-.-
The only way to defend this early is to camp in a savezone from npc but this isnt legal on most servers
