So, instead of a pure frost maiden, I liked a cold / poison Amazon build back in the day. Since it doesn't require too many points to max out the damage of Freezing arrow or Plague Javelin, it can work out well to combine the two. Although the damage is slow from Plague Javelin, it's still a lot of damage over a wide area and it can work well in combination with frozen targets. A single point into Lightning Fury and having weapon swap with Titan's Revenge even allows for a bit of lightning damage while the poison is ticking away, say against some cold immune monsters. I found it more useful to have cold/poison and a bit of lightning damage opposed to just cold, since so many mobs seem to be cold immune in hell. I can't recall seeing a mob that's cold AND poison immune, even then, there's the option of some lightning to whittle them down. :) Also, another thing to point out for Freezing arrow, it benefits from each separate source of cold duration. Stacking cold charms and having other sources of +cold effects on other pieces of gear = a super long duration freeze even in hell difficulty. It's still somewhat comparatively short in hell, but with 35+ sources of cold duration, it can be fairly respectable for CC. :)
I'm loving my frost maiden w/ a few points in strafe! Got an insight for my merc at level 28 and I am having so much godamn fun it feels illegal EDIT: I went from 1-31 entirely with cold arrows before watching this vid and it wasn't painful at all. Although I had some decent twink gear to bring me along
No mention of Wizendraw? From a damage standpoint, I think it is actually 2nd best in class other than ICE. The -35 cold res is so undervalued in NM and especially Hell.
when i got this bow i got astonished, how a LOW LVL BOW just got the OP -35% cold resists? I ony have low lvl itens but because of this bow i think of doing a frost maiden. ALSO, is that any tweak i can do to this bow?
With end game gear, Bowazon will always be top tier PvP but middle tier PvM in my opinion. I also think people don’t mention enough about carrying demon limb in your inventory when it comes to bowazons. The self enchant makes a huge difference. Especially in pvp

This is making me consider starting d2r as a bowzon, I love the idea of a frost maiden but I always felt like it wouldn't be great end game. Here's an issue though. What do you do on hell when you're up against so many cold resistant monsters? I think putting all of those points on Ice arrow just to freeze for longer is often quite irrelevant if you're doing enough damage to explode everyone into ice.
Great guide. However you unfortunately neglect to mention a few mechanics about exploding/freezing arrow that explain why its so powerful, or at least why ICE is such a good bow for it. That being that fire/cold damage added to attacks is added directly to the fire/cold skill damage of those skills. So the added frost damage of ice, plus the added frost damage from the aura, is added to the AOE. I also was hoping for a bit of discussion about cold/frozen duration mechanics, which are pretty important in this build. Particularly how they interact with multiple sources of cold damage. For instance, is it worth stacking cold charms. Also do cold charms affect freeze duration or just cold/slow duration?
Cold damage items (especially charms) are totally worth it, as the cold duration stacks linearly. Sure, there is the penalty in Nightmare and Hell, but if you stack on 14 seconds duration from gear, plus the ~2 from Freezing Arrow, you've got explosions that freeze for ~4 seconds in Hell. If you can get a 10-second Eye of Etlich, this can actually serve you through Hell difficulty. Another thing: don't neglect attack rating. Sure, the explosion will hit, but if you don't hit, you a) won't do any physical damage (no leech), and b) Pierce will not trigger. Graphically, it may *look* like you get a chain of explosions, but if your to-hit chance sucks, you'll see the explosions at the rear aren't freezing anything; that's because they didn't really happen. Obviously, if you have an ITD bow, it's great. If you're playing single player (either regular LoD,or D2R where you have imported old saves), then keep in mind a Ravenclaw from v1.09 or earlier actually fires slvl 30 Exploding Arrow. This means you can do a hybrid build: Max Cold Arrow, Freezing Arrow, and Fire Arrow, with the rest of the points into Valkyrie, Pierce, and other passives. You'll have a strong FA, and you can use the synergized Exploding Arrow from the bow's normal attack as a backup for cold immunes. Bonus is it costs zero mana, so it's also useful to offset the hefty mana cost of FA.
What about a setup with Tyrael's Might? It frees up Raven Frost's ring slot, gives much needed resists, FRW is super nice and gives a socket even. For a bonus Nightwing + T-might is super pleasing visually. And I could finally use my single player Tyrael's. I'm thinking about rolling an ice bowazon just for that.
@@dudlEEk Or depending on your weapon, you could go for some Strafe to deal with Cold Immunes. Its not going to be comparable with having a WF or some high phys bow, but it will be nice addition to your merc and valk helping them deal with it.

I'm using Fishyzon's build, just got into Hell at level 70, and using Lightning Fury to deal with cold immunes. Exploding arrow just completely sucks until you maxed everything and have a ton of + skills. You do lose the ability to use a teleport on weapon swap or Call To Arms.
all this works great until act1 hell. suddenly all of the cold immune's create a huge block. ice arrow is a mistake, also. could nitpick, but fun build for player 1 for a while.
What happens if the enemies are cold immune though? This build has no physical damage and no second elemental damage if I got it right. Is magic arrow skill exactly for that purpose?

Does it require high attack rating to hit? And if the Freezing arrow always hits, why does it add + attack rating on the skill??
Yep that's right. Freezing arrow has its own attack rating bonus so it's not too hard to have enough attack rating with it. I have a number of freezing arrow build videos uploaded, you can see here and there she does miss and not pierce.

Obviously this is Frostmaiden build, but does anyone knows if instead of maxing Valkyre which does single target dmg you could max out poison spear/javelin instead? Even dmg per second isnt as high as it looks compared to totall number with some of the +skills (+titans/liddles in second weapon spot) wont you get closer to 1-2k dps which would help with frost immune mobs? Or the tank Valkyrie is key to killing bosses as it takes longer time compared to javazone and 1point valkyre dies in 1-2hits (so you waste more time recasting/kitting)?
How to deal with Hell Act 3 - flayer jungle full of cold immune flayers pls ? Theyr fast and theyr so many. Is there way to drops theyr immunity without some super rare items?
Literally you don’t need valk . You should put 20 points into fire arrow and exploding arrow . Or you can find an alternative and put points into chain light with Java switch . Works super well
Ice arrow is indeed a complete waste of skill points, a SINGLE cold damage small charm equals 10 HARD points in Ice arrow! Those points are better used into so many other useful skills, or actually give you some diversity (Strafe or EA) when facing cold immunes. Also I'm not sure how this guide doesn't have AT LEAST 6 points into Pierce (in the Final section of the build), that's pretty much mandatory tbh
Because you get Pierce from your +skill items up to the 60s%chance (where it drops off hard from diminishing anyway) and the rest from gear eg from the belt. Those 5 points are much better spent elsewhere
Hi! I believe that this is a very good build, but I don't understand how it should work on hell with only one type of damage. I started the hell difficulty with this build and I just left the camp and the first five zombies were cold immune. I tested how much damage I could do to them, then I decided to leave the cold immune opponents. Then I went into the Den of evil and there were ten zombies, 2 with boss life bars and all cold immune.. It took almost an hour to killed them. Ok, it's true that I don't have all of those items you show in the video and that matters a lot, and i belive it would work with those items, but at the moment i can't even farm the tower for better runes. l think i will switch to the cold and fire build, it seems more usable in my case. However, it was a huge help to learn how should give the points to the stats! Thank you so mutch for these class-build gide videos!

Playing this now and it slaps for sure. Two items with the BiS gear that I want to tweak. I'd like more mobility for sure, namely FRW. And I'd also like a way to build more resistances. Going to likely stack the charms but of course then I can't have as many skillers 🤔

Mr Llama, what do you say, which one is better (as in character power, not as gameplay/fun): physical bowazon or ice bowazon? (considering gear is not an issue at all, I actually imported my full 60+ tabs of Plugy stash into D2R, so every item available what you suggested in both builds video)
I went full multi arrow and guided. Running a wf and the damage is laughable. Dont go pure phy its a joke on bowzon ever since they nerfed guided arrows.
People should avoid respec just for a leveling build. Any build can get through normal, particularly online with teamates (also useful in hell for immunity). Because there is a lot of builds for amazon that require different gears. If you go for a bowazon but when killing meph in hell you acquire an endgame key item for javazon, you want to be able to respect and still be able to respect back if you want to.
The major flaw in these videos is the suggestion to never pump STR and Dex but you have to level somehow and you're not going to use a short bow through normal. Leveling stats are not your ultimate stats
Why in the world would you use a maras or a trex? Lol those are useless for this build. Gores or silkweaves for sure. Cats eye or highlords or a crafted ammy with plus skills and mana/life leech if thats possible. Laying of hands for gloves until you get good rare or crafted ones. For rings you dont need a ravenfrost if you only farm areas without cold immunes, so throw on a wisp for the heart of the wolverine for even more damage if you want. I currently use a manald as well bc this build just flys thru mana, so when you get low switch to magic arrow or strafe whichever you use and refill that mana fast af. Also, i stronglyyy disagree with coh for armor. Either fortitude for the 300% damage, or ormus robes for the + cold skill damage. Im still working on this build but its extremely strong and is only going to get better with the patch for ladder. I currently use an act 1 merc with a faith bow andys ral socketed helm and atm enigma but thats bc her strength is really lacking and i need to find a different armor for her, but id recommend using some type of armor with any kind of aura on it, the more auras the better. If not, eth fortitude or something like kraken shell for the damage reduction
I use a similar build with multi shot when cold immunes are around. I use a controller its great for this. He actually uses more vit than I do making it even easier to survive.

Wizendraw with up to -35% enemy cold res is amazing for this, and its a normal bow, it can take you all the way until you get your ICE bow.
Since there are already 20 extra skill points and and ice arrow adds very minimal benefit, what's the point of pure ice over a fire/ice?

Can you test a TRI FECTA bowazon. ICE bow (holy FREEZE) , DREAM helm ( HOLY SHOCK). DRAGON armor ( HOLY FIRE ).

It works with the physical damage of the actual arrow if it hits.

If you go for a bowazon but when killing meph in hell you acquire an endgame key item for javazon, you want to be able to respect and still be able to respect back if you want to.

The major flaw in these videos is the suggestion to never pump STR and Dex but you have to level somehow and you're not going to use a short bow through normal. Leveling stats are not your ultimate stats
Why in the world would you use a maras or a trex? Lol those are useless for this build. Gores or silkweaves for sure. Cats eye or highlords or a crafted ammy with plus skills and mana/life leech if thats possible. Laying of hands for gloves until you get good rare or crafted ones. For rings you dont need a ravenfrost if you only farm areas without cold immunes, so throw on a wisp for the heart of the wolverine for even more damage if you want. I currently use a manald as well bc this build just flys thru mana, so when you get low switch to magic arrow or strafe whichever you use and refill that mana fast af. Also, i stronglyyy disagree with coh for armor. Either fortitude for the 300% damage, or ormus robes for the + cold skill damage. Im still working on this build but its extremely strong and is only going to get better with the patch for ladder. I currently use an act 1 merc with a faith bow andys ral socketed helm and atm enigma but thats bc her strength is really lacking and i need to find a different armor for her, but id recommend using some type of armor with any kind of aura on it, the more auras the better. If not, eth fortitude or something like kraken shell for the damage reduction

I use a similar build with multi shot when cold immunes are around. I use a controller its great for this. He actually uses more vit than I do making it even easier to survive.
Id maybe put 20 points into magic arrow for some magic damage if I face cold immunes.
