I have a ‘Canoe Cue’ from Ton Praram III in Thailand!

  • Watch the unwrapping video of this beautiful Ton Praram Sam (Ton Praram III) bespoke cue in TSG colours… and with a VERY SPECIFIC cue grain configuration that almost exactly matches that of my childhood hero (to find out who that is, you will have to watch the video ;-)… )
    What do you think guys?
    Shall we make a limited production run (eg 5 or 10 numbered units with certificates) of ‘TSG Ton Praram Cues’?
    And if so, should they be ‘TSG Canoe Cues’ with the Canoe grain only? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!

    I have a Ton Praram Beyond cue with a canoe grain myself. Lovely bit of wood. Doesn't stop me being a terrible player , but I like it!

    Hi Nic.. after watching your video about Ton I decided to make a trip to Thailand and visit Ton.. I have to say I was quite impressed with his work ethics and quality of timber used... tried out many of the cues (Beyond series) in his workshop and was quite impressed with the performance of the cues. Mine should arrive within the next week or so (Beyond series). Prices are very reasonable considering some of the other so called top cue makers charge probably 3 times the amount for similar series.. keep everyone posted on the performance of the cue once it arrives.

    Slightly off topic and nice cue by the way ton praram cues are nicely made and as far as I know one of the top end cues made in Thailand plus maximus cues I was wondering what you think of Peradon cues like the Winchester model for instant do you know much about Peradon cues? Have you tried many ? Reason I ask is I ve notice that lots of good players play with a peradon however I have only tried one once so cannot do comparisons but from what I could see is lot of people seem to play with Peradon cues plus the company is supposedly one of the oldest cue makers around going back to 1886 something like that just wondered if you know much about these cues made by them I know cue craft cues are good and craftsman cues are which sells mostly Phoenix cues and maximus both of which are good but would like some input on the Peradon cues I do understand that not every cue suits everyone and cues can play differently to others any input would be much appreciated

      You can buy them here in the UK
      My friend Stu Green offers an enormous range of cues and accessories you can try on his full sized tables in his showroom in Stockton On Tees, North England.He offers very good quality cues from the entry level price range to high end exotics.His is very approachable, offers great advice, and has an in house cue repair and alteration service.He can also offer advice by email or phone I don’t get commission on referrals (I regularly recommend him because he is great at what he does), but please say hello from me when you contact him to ensure the quickest service...www.greenbaize.com/contact/
      In addition, my other friend Andrew Ramsay in the UK has a huge knowledge of cues and supplies a wide variety of brands at all price ranges as well as some exotic stuff.His ebay store is here www.ebay.co.uk/str/adr147 although you will often get the best deals by emailing him on adr147@hotmail.com

    Just a quick question , over the years iv always payed very close attention to the pro players cues because in my experience having a well balanced cue makes a hell of a lot off difference in play and I especially found that jimmy whites cue has always stood out from the rest , iv heard he plays with a heavy cue , does anybody out there just out off curiosity know the dimensions off his cue ???

    • @TheSnookerGym
      @TheSnookerGym  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is not relevant to your performance - find a cue that feels comfortable and balanced and is not too long or short

  • @Weerapong_c
    @Weerapong_c 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Ton Praram means "Ton" (ต้น) is the name of the man who made the Cue, Praram actually is Praram III (พระราม3) - the name of main road in Bangkok where Ton works at. (See at 2:27)

    Fantastic workmanship would probably not use the shaft to control the cue ball its unique and worth keeping that way. Would love a Ton Praram.

    • @TheSnookerGym

      A few others commented on that - although I have never felt any dents on my cue. The cue however was directly below a microphone which may have amplified the volume higher than my voice!

      TP's Limited editions vary from 500 to 700£, depending on the number of splices and the essences of woods employed. The rarer the pricier. A friend of mine got a Limited edition with four splices of snakewood for about 700 quids. Top quality !

      My very own Ton Praram is a Series 1 (around £285 without the extensions) and even though it is the entry level, the quality is excellent and it plays very well. And funny enough, it also carries a boat/cannoe, like Nic's one. :)

    • @TheSnookerGym
      @TheSnookerGym  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Snooker Gym I bought it from Stu at Green Baize and at the time I had selected three cues for him to test: a series 1, a series 2 and a Beyond. Tried them all and told me very honestly that for him the Series 1( so the cheaper of the three) was the better player and that it was playing more like a series 2 range. So I chose the Series 1 and never looked back. Awesome piece of wood, with four splices of Brazilian rosewood on the butt. And playability is right where Stu said it was. Right on top with my other cue, a Jason Owen made originally for Stephen Maguire (and this cue is a gem).

    I have a Hand made Robin Scott luxury cue champion 58 inch same amount of splicing on the but using exotic woods ,with canoe shapes along the grain.,
    Mine though was a bit wrong pretty thick at the part where the cue goes between the thumb and and fore finger,
    So I removed the tip and ferule , then planed down the wood ,sanded re grained and oiled
    replaced ferule with titanium re tip and now its a great cue for what I paid,
    A lot of great cues are coming from abroad with great exotic woods,
    This will put our England cue makers out of business unless they buy these cues in bulk and just become a seller,
    You just can not compete with what these cues cost,
